The most common festival in Spain iscalled La Tomatina. It is a food festivalthat is held every year on the lastWednesday of august, in the town ofbunol in the Valencia region of Spain. Itis known that Tens of metric tons ofover-ripe tomatoes are thrown in thestreets in exactly one hour. The festivalare open to only men and women. Thefestival is a week long that includesmusic, parades, dancing and of coursefireworks. It is known that on the nightbefore the festival begins, the partakerof the festival will compete in a paellacooking contest. The tradition for this isthat women are to wear all white andmen are to wear no t-shirt.

The festival started in the 1945 but wasonly officially recognised in the 1952.The festival is known to be in honour ofthe town's patron saints, St. LouisBertrand (San Luis Bertràn) and theMare de Déu dels Desemparats (Motherof God of the Defenceless), a title of thevirgin Mary. No one is sure of how thefestival originated.
