Tag Rugby Challenge

This was a project concieved by Dave Hare at Basildon Rugby Club and sponsored by Festival Leisure Park.It had the support of Sport England, the RF U, School Sports Partnerships and Basildon Council.81 Pupils from 8 Secondary Schools were trained as tag rugby coaches and worked with children from years 3 & 4 in Primary

Schools across the district.

balls, cones, whistles and even bags

to keep them in!

in curriculum time to get

children interested in the

game and then later run as

an after school club for an

hour each week.

Having fun while doing the sessions is important for both Leaders and children taking part. Smiling faces and camaraderie are in evidence here!

The Grand F inal

The end of the project f inal at Basildon Rugby Club in April was a huge success with 12 Schools taking part. Everybody enjoyed the occasion and some very strong performances were shown by both individual players and teams with good attitude and teamwork. The f inal was a close run affair between K ingswood School from Basildon and Quilters School from Billericay, with Quilters the eventual winners.
