We are excited to partner with Barnes & Noble again this year. On Saturday, November 14th we will be hosting our 3rd Annual Bookfair event at the Crystal Lake Barnes & Noble store. There will be several events throughout the day, the ones that have been so successful in the past as well as a few new ones.

Stop by the store to see children’s artwork on display, listen to special chorus concerts, and hear the teachers and administration read. Shoppers will also be able to enjoy traveling exhibits from Busy Brains Children’s Museum, a STEM story and activity, craft table, photo booth and participate in a kid-created trivia contest. You can also purchase Cheesecake Factory cakes in advance to pick up the day of the event, just in time for your Thanksgiving dessert.

Anyone can participate, and a percentage of your shopping will be donated back to Husmann. This is a great opportunity for some early holiday shopping! The event will be held during regular store hours with the help of Husmann parents along with 4th and 5th grade student volunteers.

Bring the family and enjoy the many activities throughout the day. There will be Husmann themed items available in the café so you can relax and enjoy while the kids are playing. For anyone that can’t make it, the bookfair will remain open for online sales until November 19. The details about the event, the cheesecake sales and the online portion are all on the flyers at the end of this newsletter. If you have any questions, contact Heidi Alexander, 847-732-8088 [email protected].

Authors Visit Husmann

Husmann was visited by Jeff Savage the author of the Farworld and Case File 13.The theme of the assembly was The Power of Creativity. Scott talked about kids who made the world a better place by using their imaginations. He also taught the students how to come up with an amazing story idea in less than five minutes using a hero, a goal, obstacles, and consequences of success and failures.

We also had a visit from Tom Watson. He is the author of the Stick Dog series. He shared how he came up with his ideas for the characters and storyline. During the assembly students learned how to draw the main characters of the book and got to try their hand at the characters on their own papers in front of them.

Both assemblies were enriching experiences for our students.

HUSMANN SPIRIT BANNER

Mrs. Olson’s 3rd Grade Class October 26, 2015I am so proud of my third grade class! They have worked very hard since the first day of school to become respectful, responsible 3rd graders. They come to school each day eager to learn new things. I am very proud of the progress they are making in reading, writing, and math. They are super third graders and I look forward to watching them grow this year! Congratulations to Mason, Dawson, Juliana, Gabriella, Brennan, Travis, Heather, Danica, Sophie, Tyler, Travis, Bryce, Harper, Sam,Sully, Liam, Trinity, Josie, Delanie, Charles, Samantha, Rayshaun, Arianna, Garrett, Cole, Colton and Landon. - Mrs. Olson

Mrs. Brayton’s Kindergarten ClassOctober 26, 2015I am very proud to share that my class has had a wonderful start to their very first elementary school year! They walk in the door eager to learn! Their smiling faces show how much they enjoy learning new things. I am also proud to say that they have learned not to give up when something is hard to do. It is amazing that they know to put forth their best effort each and every day! Our class has learned that it is very important to be kind and caring to one another and to help a person in need. Each student knows to treat others the way we all want to be treated. Thank you for being such good friends and students, kindergarteners! Keep up the great work boys and girls! - Mrs. Brayton
