Communicating…making yourself heard…interacting…For some people, communication is always going to be a challenge. Jabbla develops technology that assists people with communication challenges.

It all started in 1985, when researchers at Ghent University started investigating the possibilities of speech technology. Their research led to the creation of a talking communication tray on the wheelchair of a young girl.

MIND EXPRESSTM4-

Need communication support? You can count on Mind Express™4. For many years, people with communication challenges, caregivers, speech and language pathologists and teachers have relied on Mind Express for communication support. Mind Express is flexible and versatile software: it can be used for everyday communication and as a therapeutic and educational tool.

Fast and easy Each person has different communication needs. Mind Express 4 has a number of time saving set up features to create cells and vocabularies, exercises or therapy games in no time. Programming is straightforward, intuitive and fast.

Moreover, Mind Express 4 is packed with extra features: multimedia, calendars, agendas, dynamic lists, freestyle pages and more. Mind Express 4 is dynamic and geared to the life of its users.

From images and symbols to text and speech “I want to say something” “You’re nice!” “apple” “doctor” In Mind Express 4, the user selects pictures and symbols. On the basis of these, the program makes words and phrases that are then spoken in a clear voice. The built-in grammar module automatically conjugates the verbs.

From A to Z Mind Express 4 contains an abundance of symbols and pictures. It is easy and quick to create cells and vocabularies, new exercises or original therapy games. For a personal touch, symbols can be modified. Change a symbol’s colors. Add drawings, photographs or combine multiple symbols in one cell. It’s all possible with Mind Express 4.

Dynamic lists Dynamic lists make Mind Express 4 even more user-friendly. For example, five cells can be used for a “fruit” list. Using a Next cell, the next five symbols - in this case, more types of fruit - are automatically displayed in the same five cells. The action can be repeated until all the fruits available have been displayed, in which case, the list would start over. This allows you to use an extensive vocabulary in a limited number of cells and without the need to create additional pages.

Communicate quicker Cells can contain letters and words. A cell can also contain an entire sentence speeding up communication even more. Symbols help both literate and non-literate users by speeding up recognition of message content. Furthermore, word prediction - whether or not accompanied by an associated symbol - and sentence prediction, increase the speed of communication even further.

Word processor Mind Express 4 enables one to write simple sentences and letters. They can be spoken, saved or printed. The message window is the word processor and is used to build sentences and letters with symbols and text.

Control for other programs Use Mind Express 4 to launch other programs and as a keyboard to type in other programs. Mind Express 4 can even fully control your computer.

SPRINT-

Improves reading, writing and spelling. SprintPlus is a software program that reads text aloud. It helps children, students and adults to improve their reading and writing skills. A pleasant reading voice provides auditory feedback allowing mistakes in written text to be more readily identified. Ideal for teachers and speech therapists, SprintPlus is a superb tool for preparing tests, exercises and lessons.

Making learning to read easier SprintPlus supports reading by sounding out words. As it speaks it highlights the word that is pronounced. The program allows for words to be read phonetically. These combined techniques have been used with great success.

Increasing reading fluency SprintPlus will facilitate reading any text. The flexible settings allow the level of support to be adjusted to provide the proper amount of scaffolding based on the individual users needs. The click & read option allows the user to gain assistance with the text. SprintPlus can read individual words, full sentences, each paragraph, or the entire text. By providing sufficient help at all levels, SprintPlus builds confidence and improves reading fluency.

Improve spelling and writing SprintPlus provides auditory feedback as text is typed. Adjust the settings to allow each letter, word or phrase to be heard. Auditory feedback enhances the user’s ability to process what is written and identify mistakes more quickly. The spell check feature will check the text for spelling errors, and the spell check dictionary allows for each suggestion to be read aloud. The word prediction feature provides a list of words based on the characters that have already been typed. Word predictions are based on a comprehensive dictionary (25,000 words) that is easy to edit.

Study more efficiently SprintPlus can read aloud in different languages. The scaffolding supports reading comprehension and fluency. The markers in SprintPlus allow for creating well-organized lists and summaries of the text content. SprintPlus also allows for books or text to be stored as an MP3 file, which can be played on an MP3 player.

Works directly in Microsoft Word and other programs SprintPlus works directly in Microsoft Word. The convenient toolbar allows instant access to all the SprintPlus tools directly in other word processing programs.

Even for PDFs SprintPlus allows PDF files to be opened, read and edited, including digital textbooks. SprintPlus allows to add text to the document; for example, worksheets can be completed directly from the computer. SprintPlus uses the language fields to switch to the correct language.

Multifunctional and flexible SprintPlus reads from an exceptionally wide range of programs: Web pages, emails, PowerPoint presentations, and many others. The Sprinter tool can be used in most other programs by selecting the text and pressing the read button.

Eurovocs Suite consists of three modules: Skippy, KeyVit and DocReader. They can be installed and used separately, or alternatively, the three modules can be made to work together seamlessly. The entire package provides a complete solution for text-based augmentative communication.

THE WORD PREDICTOR THAT LETS YOU TYPE FASTER. WITH SKIPPY, HALF THE USUAL NUMBER OF KEY STROKES ARE UNNECESSARY.

Skippy helps people who can use a normal keyboard, but who find typing a huge effort. With Skippy, people with limited hand function can type faster and with less effort.

How does it work? When you type the first letters of a word, Skippy displays a list of words that begin with the letters already typed. In addition, the program also suggests the next word. This makes the program extremely effective.

Skippy contains a comprehensive standard wordlist. And what if you type a new word? Skippy can automatically add the new word to the predictive wordlist. This allows the program to evolve effortlessly together with personal use of language.

KEYVIT- THE ALTERNATIVE ON-SCREEN KEYBOARD

KeyVit is a virtual keyboard displayed on-screen. Choose the keys and functions via mouse, trackball, joystick or by scanning. KeyVit moves the mouse cursor over your screen in exactly the same way. Without a traditional keyboard or mouse, KeyVit can launch a program, browse the Internet, email, enter text or draw.

Use the KeyVit software keyboard just like an ordinary keyboard. Type text in all your favorite programs: word processing, email, chat, data entry in databases and spreadsheets, ... Unlike an ordinary keyboard, one key in KeyVit can do more than just put one letter or number on the screen. It can open a program, display a complete sentence, open another keyboard, and launch environmental control. Head tracking and Eye trackingWhere accessing the Tellus 5 or Mobi 2 via the touch screen or switches is not an option; the Tellus or Mobi can be used with the in-built head tracker or optional eye gaze device.

Head tracking Head tracking allows you to control your device with your head. The built-in webcam (Tellus) or external webcam (Mobi) & head tracking software convert head movements into mouse movements. Turn your head to the left to move the mouse cursor to the left. When you move your head, the mouse pointer on the screen will move proportionally. Screen activations can be achieved by using the dwell selection option in Mind Express - hover the mouse cursor on a cell to select it automatically.

Eye trackingAn optional camera tracks the movement of your eyes. After a short calibration you are all set to control the Tellus or Mobi with your eyes. Perform all mouse functions using only your eyes. The mouse cursor will follow the movements of your eyes. Look at a cell to put the cursor on that cell. Select a cell automatically by using dwell selections or by blinking with your eyes.

There are several efficient eye tracking cameras on the market. Selecting the best eye tracking camera for a specific user depends on many factors: lighting conditions, head movements, are glasses or contact lenses worn?… One user might prefer one type of camera whilst another user may be better suited to a different camera. This is why Jabbla offers and supports a range of eye tracking camera’s for use with the Tellus or Mobi. This modular approach is reflected in our Mind Express software. Use the same software no matter which eye tracking camera you prefer. The Tellus 5 and Mobi 2 can be combined with the following camera’s:
