THE 27th ANNUAL FFSI WORLDWIDE CONFERENCE WILL THE 27th ANNUAL FFSI WORLDWIDE CONFERENCE WILL BE HELD APRIL 21BE HELD APRIL 21--23, 2008 IN VANCOUVER, CANADA 23, 2008 IN VANCOUVER, CANADA

The 27th Annual FFSI WORLDWIDE CONFERENCE will be held in Vancouver, Canada from April 21—23, 2008. It will be hosted by FFSI member in Canada FIF Freight Systems (Canada) Inc. in coordination and cooperation with Feta Freight Systems International. Mr. John Roza-Pereira, President of FIF Freight Systems (Canada) Inc., has been looking forward to this hosting since it was announced during the 25th FFSI Worldwide Conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, March 2006.

With an expected membership of 95 by April representing at least 62 countries, and the drive to invite prospective applicants from the North, Central and South American Regions, it is almost certain that close to 150 participants from highly qualified and rigorously screened members will attend this conference. This will be the second time that an FFSI Conference will be held in the American Region (the first one being in Brazil in 2006) and first one ever in North America.

The city of Vancouver was elected Host City of the XXI Olympic Winter Games in 2010 from February 12-28, 2010. Construction has been completed on all three of the Whistler Olympic and Paralympic competition venues. It is expected that delegates to the 27th FFSI Worldwide Conference will have the opportunity to see some of the preparations for the event and Mr. John Roza-Pereira is keen on promot-ing the city’s Olympics hosting to all those who will be in Vancouver.

Registration for the Conference in Vancouver will be available on-line starting February 15th, 2008 at FFSI’s new and enhanced website at www.ffsintl.net .

TOP GUN AUGUST 2007 TOP GUN AUGUST 2007 -- JULY 2008 IN FULL SWING JULY 2008 IN FULL SWING Who will be the first Top Gun Awardee? The very first Top Gun Program was held for the period covering August 2006 to July 2007 and was launched during the 6th FFSI Global Sales & Marketing Meeting held in Goa, India in October 2006. Sales & Marketing Director Chris Waterson from Contract Forwarding, South Africa and also currently a Board Director of FFSI, spearheaded the launch of this program in order to lend serious challenge and deliberate attempts to increase business between FFSI Members. The Top Gun program encourages FFSI members to mutually sign Memorandums of Agreements (MOA’s) on target business growth commitments for both airfreight and seafreight covering imports and exports during the one-on-one workshop meetings held at FFSI Global Sales & Marketing Meetings.

The first Top Gun Program was participated in by 46 members and the top achievers were presented the Top Gun Achievement Certificates. 20 compa-nies received the awards but, nobody qualified for the single honor of being bestowed the title TOP GUN as no one was able to achieve all their targets. The second round of Top Gun for 2007-2008 will most probably bring out a winner because the rules have been slightly modified. The Top Gun title will go to the highest total volume increase obtained only from achieved MOA targets. There will be awards for the 3rd placed (bronze award) and the 2nd placed (silver award).

The submissions of MOA’s for this years’ Top Gun program came from 18 members as opposed to last year’s only 10. However, since we are not dif-ferentiating “initiating” companies from “participating” companies anymore, we can say that we have this year 47 participants vying for the Top Gun title. This is going to be a very interesting contest and the results of which will highlight the 8th FFSI Global Sales & Marketing Meeting which will be held in Hochiminh City, Vietnam from November 6—8, 2008. You have to be there to honor our first Top Gun awardee.

Logical Solutions, Not Just Logistics

Sea Air Model (SAM), Swift’s sea-air combined transport product serving Africa via Dubai, achieved a high performance record of 100% during the month of March 2007. SAM shipments travel by sea from the Far east to Dubai, where Swift promptly transfers them to Dubai International Airport. Ethiopian Airlines is the contracting carrier for freight that is airlifted from Dubai, and Swift uses their extensive network to reach multiple African destinations.

“This is a new era of operation for Ethiopian Airlines, and as entre-preneurs on the African continent we have been committed to make a success of SAM,” said Mr. Tewolde Gebremariam, Chief Operat-ing Officer of Ethiopian Airlines. “This year will be of great signifi-cance, as the network of Ethiopian Airlines continues to grow.”

SAM is a cost effective alternative for shipments to Africa, offering competitive rates, fixed schedules, and reliable carriers. Since the launch of this product in August 2006, the SAM service has moved over 500 shipments.

“It has been a challenge to get this level of performance, but we are glad we have done it together,” said Mr. Vincent Brank, Executive Director of Swift Group.

This year, Swift plans to add more origins and destinations for the SAM service, now that the product has received wide recognition from African importers.

——————————————————————————— UNITED KINGDOM WILGO FREIGHT SERVICES LTD. ————————————————–——————————– EUROPEAN AIRFREIGHT—STILL A GROWTH MARKET

WILGO Freight Services London (Heathrow) Airport branch has been bucking the trend when it comes to Euro-pean Airfreight shipments. Although the

majority of European forwarders have experienced traffic moving from Airfreight to either Road or Courier services WILGO Heathrow have still continued to maintain and even expand on certain markets within Europe.

“We at WILGO Heathrow handle some very busy European ac-counts in conjunction with some of our fellow FFSI European members. In fact it is one of the biggest growth areas within the Export Air-freight Department” said Simon Curtis, WILGO’s London Heathrow Export Manager. “The biggest two areas are UK to Milan, Italy and Oporto, Portugal where we handle many shipments every week to both destinations. We work hand in hand with our FFSI partners Rangel (Portugal) & Florence Shipping (Italy) to provide an excellent Express service level. The European Market has always been com-petitive but now is even more so with the involvement of the Multi-National Logistic companies hitting the market hard. However with careful planning and the network service levels FFSI can provide WILGO has found they can match or even surpass these bigger com-petitors for both service level and cost.

“There will always be a place for Roadfreight and Courier move-ments within Europe” said Simon, ”However we at WILGO have found there is a gap in the market that requires a faster transit time than road but without the additional costs that larger courier move-ments can incur. With the good service level that we together with our European FFSI partners can provide I am confident that we will enjoy further expansion within this area of our business.”

Volume 3 Issue 1 (Quarterly Issue covers January — March 2008 )

MESSAGE FROM MR. CHRIS WATERSON, Managing Director :

It is with much pride that Contract Forwarding is able to advise our friends and partners in FFSI that we celebrate 25 years in business in 2008. From humble beginnings with just 4 staff in a small office in Johannesburg in 1983, we have grown over the years to a company reaching 100 employees and with offices in the 3 major centres of Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg. Today we are a subsidiary of the Mvelaphanda Group which is South Africa’s largest black owned and managed Group listed on the local Stock Exchange, and which employs over 40,000 people in various industries.

Our success over the years is in no small part due to the outstanding support of our overseas partners and, although it is always difficult to single out any specific players, we would be remiss in not mention-ing our 24 year partnership with Flynt in Hong Kong, and an almost as long a partnership with VCK in the Netherlands. We are hon-oured that Francis Ng (and others from FFSI) will join us at our cele-bratory dinner for clients in Johannesburg to be held on 21st Febru-ary 2008.

To everyone at FFSI our thanks for your support and professional service over the years and we look forward to working with you for many years to come. We hope we will add to your success as well, and also to the success and continued growth of our wonderful Asso-ciation, FFSI.
