Leistritz‘ smart work rest blades

At EMO 2017, German Leistritz Produktionstechnik GmbH will introduce the „Smart Op-

tion“ that facilitates digitally writable and readable tools.

Hannover (September 18, 2017) – „Everybody is talking about Industry 4.0. In the tools

sector we also have to establish new and smart measures to provide an even more effi-

cient cross-linking of customer and supplier,“ explains Dr. Michael Wengler, Managing

Director of German-based Leistritz Produktionstechnik GmbH. „That is why we are

launching the so-called “Smart Option” for our work rest blades, which we will be pre-

senting at EMO 2017 for the first time.“

Smart Option

With this „Smart“ feature Leistritz provides the possibility of storing individual, process

relevant information with can be digitally read out. „Especially, when it comes to partial

or total refitting, it brings important benefits”, says Dr. Wengler, “customary labels and

stickers eventually become illegible due to heavy usage.” Therefore, an RFID chip (radio-

frequency identification) is integrated into the work rest blade. The storage capacity of

the 9 x 2 mm chip is big enough to archive all relevant information. Consequently, the

customer has all the information at hand, such as contact data, item, equipment or ma-

chine number, setup parameters, service life etc. “In turn, we as a supplier can store for

example design drawings, inspection records, repair information. It holds up more than

30 sharpening and repair cycles. Furthermore, machine programs and controls can be

stored on it”, amplifies Dr. Wengler. Reading in and out of data is done via a shared soft-

ware.
