JULY 12, 2020 - 3 - FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
COFFEE ON THE WALL
I sat with my friend in a well-known coffee shop in a
neighbouring town of Venice (Italy), the city of lights and water.
As we enjoyed our coffee, a man entered and sat at an empty
table beside us.
He called the waiter and placed his order saying, “Two cups of
coffee, one of them there on the wall.”
We heard this order with interest and observed that he was
served with one cup of coffee but he paid for two. As soon as he
left, the waiter pasted a piece of paper on the wall saying ‘A Cup
of Coffee.’
While we were still there, two other men entered and ordered
three cups of coffee, two on the table and one on the wall. They
had the two cups of coffee but paid for three and left.
This time also, the waiter did the same; he pasted a piece of
paper on the wall saying, ‘A Cup of Coffee.’ It was something
unique and perplexing for us.
We finished our coffee, paid the bill and left.
After a few days, we had a chance to go to this coffee shop
again. While we were enjoying our coffee, a man , poorly
dressed , entered. As he seated himself, he looked at the wall
and said, 'One cup of coffee from the wall.'
The waiter served coffee to this man with the customary respect
and dignity. The man had his coffee and left without paying.
We were amazed to watch all this, as the waiter took off a piece
of paper from the wall and threw it in the dust bin.
Now it was no surprise for us – the matter was very clear. The
great respect for the needy, shown by the inhabitants of this
town, made our eyes well up in tears.
Ponder upon the need of what this man wanted. He enters the
coffee shop without having to lower his self-esteem; he has no
need to ask for a free cup of coffee without asking or knowing
about the one who is giving this cup of coffee to him. He only
looked at the wall, placed an order for himself, enjoyed his
coffee and left.
Probably the most beautiful wall you may ever see anywhere?
My deepest thanks to all parishioners of St. Timothy parish
for all you do to increase charity and to take on sacrifice.

A SHORT PANDEMIC REFLECTION
SUBMITTED BY RAY NOBLE
1. How does God want me to use my gifts today and this week?
2. What can I do for people, charities and concerns that have
arisen in my life that now need help?
3.Which risks are prudent and why or why not?
4. Do I want to spend the rest of my life the way I am spending
this day?
We are each called to heroic virtue. Guide my next steps, Lord.

FORMED - A NEW LOOK AND FEEL
Our parish provides each parishioner a format to have a closer
relationship with Jesus. This format is the FORMED website,
www.formed.org.
The website has made some important changes:
1)All Formed content can now be downloaded and played offline
on smartphones and tablets.
2)We have added more apps including Roku and Apple TV.
3)We have made registration much simpler – no more
passwords necessary.
4)We’ve improved search functionality to make it easier to find
the faith forming content you’re looking for.
New content including: Lectio Divina and YDisciple content for
youth ministry.
This website, in a video for preparation for catechists, states two
current alarming states of our Catholic faith.
First, only 30% of Catholics believe in the Real Presence of
Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. Second, only 48% of Catholics
have a personal relationship with Jesus. Parishioners are
strongly encouraged to go to the formed website and view the
video presentation titled: to “PRESENCE – THE MYSTERY OF
THE EUCHARIST”. There are three brilliant 30 minute
presentations explaining the source and summit of our faith.
There is also a study guide that is available at no cost.
Reflection on the content will bring you to a closer relationship
with Jesus.
YOUR DONATIONS ARE IMPORTANT AT THIS TIME
Let’s move forward together - cautiously and prayerfully - with

AN ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION
My Jesus,
I believe that You
are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things,
and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment
receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there
and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You.
Amen

SACRAMENT OF PENANCE
“In case of physical or moral impossibility in which a person
cannot personally go to confession to a priest, according to the
Catechism of the Catholic Church and the Code of Canon Law, a
person is to make an Act of Contrition with a sincere desire to go
to confession as soon as it is possible” (CCC 1484; CIC 960).
"In this distress, — for then I had never had a single vision, —
these Thy words alone were enough to remove it, and give me
perfect peace: 'Be not afraid, my daughter: it is I; and I will not
abandon thee. Fear not.'"

It often happens that I wake up at night and begin to think about
a serious problem and decide I must tell the Pope about it. Then

JULY 12, 2020 - 7 - FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
VENERABLE ARCHBISHOP FULTON J SHEEN
ON THE ROSARY:
It is objected that there is much repetition in the
rosary inasmuch as the Lord’s Prayer and the Hail
Mary are said so often; therefore it is monotonous.
That reminds me of a woman who came to see me
one evening after instructions. She said, “I would
never become a Catholic. You say the same words in the rosary
over and over again, and anyone who repeats the same words is
never sincere. I would never believe anyone who repeated
words, and neither would God.” I asked her who the man was
with her. She said it was her fiancé. I asked: “Does he love you?”
“Certainly he does.” “But how do you know?” “He told me.” “What
did he say?” “He said, ’I love you’ “ “Did he tell you before?” “Yes,
last night. He tells me every night.” I said: “Don’t believe him. He
is repeating; he is not sincere.”

CATECHISM CORNER: HOW TO EAT AN ELEPHANT
ONE BITE AT A TIME
Article 27 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC):
The desire for God is written in the human
heart, because man is created by God and for
God; and God never ceases to draw man to
himself. Only in God will he find the truth and
happiness he never stops searching for.
REFLECTION:
Picture the prodigal son, slowly plodding toward his Father’s
house, full of hesitation and doubt, not knowing that already His
Father has seen him and is running toward him.
PRAYER:
Father, help us recognize that you offer all the truth and
happiness that we are searching for. Help us to find it in you.

Publishing, 2006)
ON SPIRITUAL COMMUNION
The practice of making spiritual communions has been recommended by the
saints from the earliest times.
If only we would develop this wonderful habit so as to derive so many graces
that our lives might be transformed!
It is recommended to terminate each visit to the Blessed
Sacrament by a spiritual communion. According to Saint
Thomas Aquinas, a spiritual communion consists in desiring
ardently to receive Jesus in the holy Sacrament, and in
embracing him with the same love as if you had already received
him. . . . The holy Council of Trent extols the advantages of a
spiritual communion , and exhorts the faithful to practice it.
All devout souls are accustomed to make frequent spiritual
communions . . . . Spiritual communions are most powerful help
to receive the holy Eucharist with the proper dispositions. Hence,
I exhort all who desire to advance in the love of Christ, to make a
spiritual communion at each visit to the Blessed Sacrament, and
at each Mass . . . at the beginning, middle, and end of the visit or
of the Mass. This devotion is more profitable than some imagine
it to be, and is, at the same time, most easy. It may be made as
often as we please , without being observed by anyone, without
fasting. It consists in making an act of love.
-Saint Alphonsus de Liguori. Visits to the Most Holy Sacrament
IN GOD’S PRESENCE, CONSIDER . . .
Pray devoutly the act of spiritual communion below, composed
by Saint Alphonsus.
CLOSING PRAYER
My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy
Sacrament. I love you above all things: I desire to receive you
into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace you, and I unite
myself entirely to you, as if you had already come. Do not permit
me to be ever separated from you.
Jesus, source of all good, my sweet love, wound, inflame this
heart of mine, that it may always burn for you.

OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL
SAINT OF THE DAY FOR JULY 16
The Story of Our Lady of Mount Carmel
Hermits lived on Mount Carmel near the Fountain of Elijah in
northern Israel in the 12th century. They had a chapel dedicated
to Our Lady. By the 13th century they became known as
“Brothers of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.” They soon celebrated a
special Mass and Office in honor of Mary. In 1726, it became a
celebration of the universal Church under the title of Our Lady of
Mount Carmel. For centuries the Carmelites have seen
themselves as specially related to Mary. Their great saints and
theologians have promoted devotion to her and often
championed the mystery of her Immaculate Conception.
Saint Teresa of Avila called Carmel “the Order of the Virgin.”
Saint John of the Cross credited Mary with saving him from
drowning as a child, leading him to Carmel, and helping him
escape from prison. Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus believed
that Mary cured her from illness. On her First Communion day,
Thérèse dedicated her life to Mary. During the last days of her
life she frequently spoke of Mary.
There is a tradition—which may not be historical—that Mary
appeared to Saint Simon Stock, a leader of the Carmelites, and
gave him a scapular, telling him to promote devotion to it. The
scapular is a modified version of Mary’s own garment. It
symbolizes her special protection and calls the wearers to
consecrate themselves to her in a special way. The scapular
reminds us of the gospel call to prayer and penance—a call that
Mary models in a splendid way.

Reflection
The Carmelites were known from early on as “Brothers of Our
Lady of Mount Carmel.” The title suggests that they saw Mary
not only as “mother,” but also as “sister.” The word sister is a
reminder that Mary is very close to us. She is the daughter of
God and therefore can help us be authentic daughters and sons
of God. She also can help us grow in appreciation of being

race can find its way to peace.
