St. Jude Snow Day Policy: If Jefferson County Public Schools are closed, St. Jude Church and Community Cen-ter are closed. If weather conditions dete-riorate and the Church and Community Center will close before 4:00pm, all departments will dismiss at the same time. If St. Jude Church and Community Center are closed because of snow, all parish programs and functions will be canceled as well. Thank you. *The Church will be open for Mass.

PASTOR’S POTPOURRI —SPRINGTIME IN THE CHURCH – LENT As we approach the Lenten Season 2016 we are invited once again to join with those who will be coming into the Church at the Easter Vigil…the catechumens and the candi-dates. We give thanks to God for them and we pray for them. We also have an opportunity to remember our own Baptism and give thanks for that gift and that responsibility. Tuesday of this week is called FAT TUESDAY. But even before it was called by that name it was and is called SHROVE TUESDAY. The term comes from medieval times, when people confessed their sins in order to be “shriven” or absolved from their sins. Many Christians would make a special point of self-examination on this day, to see what they needed to do to get their lives in or-der. Shrove Tuesday has also become a feast of pan-cakes. Traditionally on the day before Ash Wednesday, peo-ple would make pancakes as a way to use up their supplies of fat, butter and eggs (foods forbidden during Lent back then). We again offer the Little Black Book for prayer during Lent. Let us pray for one another and for all who are away from the Church that they may come home at Easter. —Fr. Bob
