    FIFTH VISIT REPORT

    3rd - 8th May, 2011Maeikiai, Lithuania

    Programme: Lifelong Learning ProgrammeSub-programme: ComeniusAction: Multilateral School PartnershipProject title:We are surrounded by water, but there is no drop to drink

    The fifth project meeting took place in Maeikiai, Lithuania between 3rd-8th May,2011.Partners from11 (out of 14) European countries participated in the project meeting: Latvia, Greece, Turkey,Romania, Poland, France, Portugal, Spain, United Kingdom, Hungary and Lithuania. We hosted 25teachers and 14 students.Teachers were accommodated in the hotel Puyno Namai while students stayed with their partnersin their families.

    The main aim of the fifth project meeting was to organize a conference and presentation related tocauses of water pollution. All participating countries prepared power point presentations and

    presented them to the audience which consisted of our guests from European countries, our localauthorities and school community.

    Working programme

    3rd May - Tuesday

    We met our guests at the airport in Riga and all together arrived in Maeikiai. The Greek group camevia Vilnius and the Portuguese group were welcomed after the midnight. All adult guests wereaccommodated in the hotel whereas students went to their partners homes.

    4th May - Wednesday

    9.00 The project group was welcomed at the Town Hall where a meeting with the town Mayor andlocal authorities was organised.

    10.00 Our guests arrived at school and were welcomed by the school authorities and the staff. Theofficial starting of the project meeting began with our headmistress speech and was followed by aconcert given by our singers and dancers. After the performance our guests were given a guidedschool tour.

    14.00 After their lunch all participants went to the local museum where they were shown some local

    crafts and had a possibility to learn about the history of Maeikai and its region.

    16.00 The Project Conference took place in the school hall and all partners presented the fifth projecttask by showing their power point presentations. The Lithuanian team prepared a presentation basedon chemical and biological tests of the river water in Maeikiai district.

    18.00 In the evening the project group were given a bus tour around Maeikiai and had their dinner inthe hotel. Later they spent some time relaxing in the Sauna/Turkish bath in the hotel. Students spent

    the evening together with their partners.

    5th May- Thursday

    7.00 -23.00 The project group left for Klaipda the only port of Lithuania .A cultural visit beganwith a guided tour in the old town of Klaipda .Our guests also visited vyturys brewery wherethey were introduced with our long established traditions of beer making.In the afternoon the whole group was taken to Nida the centre of the Neringa peninsula resort areawhere they had their lunch and spent a few hours walking on the biggest sandy dunes in Lithuania andadmiring the area.

    The visit to Klaipda and Neringa was directly related to the topic of our project- WATER.

    6th May- Friday

    9.00 In the morning our guests (only teachers) visited primary school Kregdut where they werewelcomed by the school staff and pupils. Various activities involving water were organised. Theguests were given a concert prepared by school community. At that time foreign students togetherwith their partners attended History, Geography and Chemistry lessons in our gymnasium. Theylearnt some significant historical facts about our country, were introduced with the most beautiful

    places in Lithuania and shown some chemical experiments which involved water.11.00 The main project event of the day-a trip to the biggest local company oil refinery and oil

    processing plant Orlen Lietuva took place at midday. The project group were welcomed by the

    authorities of the plant and were given a guided tour around it. All participants visited a chemicallaboratory where they were introduced with the latest water treatment equipment.15.00 After the lunch the second part of the official meeting was organised. All partners discussedfurther tasks, meeting dates and project programme.18.00 -22.00 Lithuanian National Party was organised outside the town, in the recreational area nearthe water ponds. Our guests were entertained by a folk dance group and tasted some of our nationalmeals. Everyone had a very good time dancing in the disco. Later project certificates and presentswere handed in.

    7th May- Saturday

    7.00 We said good bye to our Greek and French partners and the rest of the project group were takenon a cultural visit to iauliai-4th largest city in Lithuania which is situated not far from lake Talka.Our guests were given a guided tour of the city and stopped to take pictures of famous sculpturesillustrating a legend about the lake.13.00 We took our guests to the most well-known symbol of Catholic Lithuania-the Hill of Crossesand they were amazed by the sight.16.00 After the lunch in a very unique place an old windmill- the project group visited Burbikismanor and attended Tulip Festival and a folk fair there.

    The fifth project visit officially ended very late at night in the hotel.

    Conclusions:

    The aims of the project meeting in Maeikiai, Lithuania were fully achieved .Everything wentaccording to the plan. Further project tasks and next project meeting were discussed All participantsreceived their certificates and personal presents. All documents were signed and stamped by ourschool authorities.

    Our partners highly evaluated the project meeting in Lithuania. They learnt a lot about our country interms of water, culture, geography and history.Our students gained a lot of valuable experience while hosting their project partners and deeprelationship between their families was established.

    Our school community benefited from communication with the project partners from 10 Europeancounties. We were really happy to introduce and share our cultural heritage with them.
