Ponderings of a Parochial Administrator

My Dear Parishioners,

This weekend we celebrate our Mothers. What beauty and joy they bring to our lives. It is no accident, I think, that Mother’s Day falls in the month dedicated to our Blessed Mother Mary. The month of May is the “month which the piety of the faithful has especially dedicated to Our Blessed Lady,” and it is the occasion for a “moving tribute of faith and love which Catholics in every part of the world [pay] to the Queen of Heaven. During this month Chris ans, both in church and in the privacy of the home, offer up to Mary from their hearts an especially fervent and loving homage of prayer and venera on. In this month, too, the benefits of God's mercy come down to us from her throne in greater abun-dance.” (Paul VI: Encyclical on the Month of May, no. 1). The Blessed Virgin Mary is the Mother of the Church and therefore the example, as well as the guide and inspira on, of everyone who, in and through the Church, seeks to be the servant of God and man and the obedient agent of the promp ngs of the Holy Spirit. We should take me to honor our mothers and thank them for their sacrifice and devo-

on to us. Especially in this me in which we experience the plague of abor on, we should hold high the example of motherhood. This month we can honor our mothers by also hon-oring our Blessed Mother. Perhaps praying the rosary or reci ng a litany of the Blessed Vir-gin Mary for the inten on of our mother could be a spiritual gi for our earthly mother. Let us take the me during this month of May, to frequently tell our mothers, including our Blessed Mother, how much they mean to us and how grateful we are to them for all that they do. May God con nue to bless our mothers abundantly through the intercession of Mary.

Happy Mother’s Day!! Remember, if you have any ques ons about our faith, history or the Church, please feel free to send your ques ons to me at [email protected]. Your servant in Christ, Fr. John
