Dear Parents, Please find below a suggestion of learning tasks for the coming week. We as a school, want to reassure you that a high priority of ours is well-being. Particularly the mental well-being of the children, yourselves and our staff at such a tough time. Therefore we do not want the activities below to become a source of extra stress for you. Please know that the teachers are available by email to provide support, if needed. The most important activities for you to complete with your child(ren) is daily reading and language development through conversation. We also recognise that activities you do with your children such as craft, baking, playing games, etc have many educational benefits and would encourage you to continue completing activities both you and your child enjoy doing together. Year 3 Home Learning Menu Week beginning 20.04.20 P.E. Creative (Music, Art, Drama) Joe Wicks has become the UK’s PE teacher. Go on you tube at 9.00am everyday to follow along. If you have not access to You tube, can your child make up their own workout for you and the rest of the family to have a go at. L.O – To create an obstacle course and create instructions to complete it Create an obstacle course or take chalk and make a course outside. See if it can involve different ways of moving e.g. balancing, jumping, crawling, hopping etc There are some online classes being offered for example Emma Scott runs an art session online at 2pm every day. L.O – To conduct research about Hokusai’s work and replicate his work This half term we are looking at an artist called Katsushika Hokusai. See if you can conduct some research about him. Can you find any pictures of his artwork? See if you can have a go at recreating some of his work.

L.O – To create a setting description and use a range of preposition as sentence openersCreate your own setting. Is it a creepy setting? Is it a happy setting? It is an imaginary land? Collect ideas about what it might be like there. Use the senses to organise ideas e.g. see, smell, hear. Pupils to write a setting description of a scrap metal yard. Use prepositions to vary sentence starters.

Prepositions tell us where something is (for example, beside, under, on, against, beneath or over) or when something is happening (for example: until, during, after, before or more specifically 'on Christmas Day', 'at twelve o'clock' or 'in August').

ScienceHumpty Dumpy experiements

Start by hard boiling 6 eggs and set them aside to cool. Once the eggs are cooled, use a permanent marker to draw faces on them to represent Humpty Dumpty. Then gather 6 sandwich bags and fill them with different materials, e.g. marbles, a piece of foam padding, bubble wrap, feathers, shredded paper and beans. Then make a prediction about whether the egg would crack when dropped in the different bags. Now comes the fun part! Put the eggs into the bags and as you repeat the nursery rhyme, drop a bag from the table when Humpty Dumpty falls off the wall. Repeat with every bag. After dropping all of the bags, remove the eggs and record the results. Were the results surprising?
