Freedom to design, that is, freedom of people to design, built and use build-ings, ci es and landscapes be er for them.
The conference is based upon three keys research concepts.
The first one is, THE SPECIFIC MO-DERNITY, where each design can pro-duce a unique experience because of the specific rela on to its geographical and historical links. This is a prefigura-
ve dimension of architectural design as a research scenario.
The second one is THE CONVER-GENCE BETWEEN DESIGN AND CULTUR-AL SOCIAL HISTORY, which the physical dimension of architecture and planning can uncover. This is a configura ve di-mension of architecture analyzed by a lot of morphological digital tools to day.
The third concept is THE DIALOGI-CAL AND CHRONOTOPICAL CRITICISM of the use of architecture and planning. This is an ethnographic and refigura ve dimension of architecture and planning as a social par cipa ve process, be-tween users, genres, cultures and iden-
es.
These three concepts can be used aesthe cally, scien fically or poli cally, however in any case they should be ap-plied to architecture and planning real situa ons.

El primer concepto es el de MO-DERNIDAD ESPECÍFICA por el cual, cada proyecto debe desarrollar su propia capacidad de innovación, gracias a su dialogo con la realidad geográfica e his-tórica del lugar en el cual se desarrolla. Es una dimensión prefigura va y mental de los proyectos arquitectónicos y urba-nís cos.
El segundo concepto es el de la CONVERGENCIA ENTRE EL PROCESO PROYECTUAL Y LA HISTORIA SOCIAL Y CULTURAL construida y materializada por el edificio, el paisaje o la ciudad, es una dimensión sica y configura va de la arquitectura y del urbanismo, que hoy está siendo analizada por muchísi-mas herramientas digitales y morfoló-gicas.
El tercer concepto es el de la di-mensión DIALÓGICA Y CRONOTÓPIA del uso social de la arquitectura y del urbanismo. Se trata de una dimensión refigura va y etnográfica que analiza la par cipación social en proyectos y pla-nes y el dialogo entre usuarios, géneros, culturas e iden dades.
De estos tres conceptos pueden ser u lizados en las inves gaciones tanto esté camente, como cien ficamente, como polí camente, pero en cualquier caso deben u lizarse a par r de situa-ciones reales concretas.Josep Muntañola

Conference ARQUITECTONICS 2020 Mind Land and Society : THE RESEARCH IN ARCHITECTURE AND UR-BAN PLANNING: THEORIES AND REALITIES
This 18th conference of the network ARQUI-TECTONICS will have an especial significance since professor Josep Muntañola, founder of the network, will celebrate his 80 th an-niversary.Then, the content of the conference will fo-cuse its a en on upon the evidences that the hundreds of phd students and master students who followed the courses of the network since 1983 un l now, have pro-duced significant architectural and urban planning realiza ons in rela on to the three scenarios of ARQUITECTONICS, that is, the EDUCATION scenario, in childhood and in the universi es, the PROFESSION scenar-io, with outstanding works, and, finally, in the SOCIAL scenario with alterna ve urban planning processes in different countries.
These evidences will be supported by Phd Disserta ons, publica ons, prizes etc., be-cause of that, MAPS of the network in each of the 9 topics of the conference will inform about these realiza ons in the three scenar-ios.

Conference ARQUITECTONICS 2020 Mind Land and Society : LA INVESTIGACIÓN EN ARQUITECTURA Y URBANISMO: TEORIAS Y REALIDADES.
Este 18th Congreso Internacional de la red ARQUITECTONICS ene un sen do espe-cial dados los 80 años del profesor Josep Muntañola Thornberg, fundador de la red. Por ello, el tema se estructura a par r de las evidencias que, los más de 300 alum-nos de los masteres y programas de doc-torado organizados por el grupo de inves-
gación GIRAS desde el año 1983 hasta la fecha, han producido en los escenarios de la EDUCACION, infan l y universitaria, de la PROFESION, con obras de arquitectura y urbanismo realizadas o en proceso, y en los escenarios de la par cipación SOCIAL con obras y procesos urbanís cos alterna vos y efec vos.
Estas evidencias se apoyan, además, en te-sis de master y doctorado que han sido pub-licadas y acreditadas, y en reconocimientos de las obras en marcha a niveles diversos siempre dentro de una visión alterna va Por ello se presentaran en el congreso MAPAS, que representen estas evidencias siguiendo los nueve tópicos de los congresos de AR-QUITECTONICS entre programas educa vos, obras profesionales y redes sociales de or-denación alterna va del territorio.

PRACTICES: THE LAST ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN TENDENCIES
Durante el curso intensivo de 4 dias pretendemos enfa zar las relaciones teóricas y prác cas entre EDUCACIÓN,PROFE-SION Y SOCIEDAD, fundamentadas en un conocimiento arqui-tectónico interac vo, dialógico y hermenéu co, que permiten generar un conocimiento propio en los arquitectos y en los urbanistas y ,en general ,en todas las profesiones involucra-das en la mejora del medioambiente desde el clima hasta la cultura.
La arquitectura como lugar y el lugar como arquitectura, son los caminos para conseguir una modernidad especifica digna de ser construida y planificada. A par r de los trabajos, interac vos y dialógicos, de Mijail Baj n , Paul Ricoeur y Lewis Mumford sobre el espacio arquitectónico y urbanís co, así como las teorías y escritos Rainer Zimmermann y Rober Slut-zky servirán de base para la discución teórica y prá ca de la arquitectura y urbanísmo.
During this 4 days of course we pretend to emphasize the rela onships between EDUCATION, PROFESSION AND SOCIE-TY, founded upon an architectural and urban knowledge, inte-rac ve, dialogic and hermeneu c, that allow to generate our own knowledge on the architects and urban planners and, in general, in all the professions involved in the improvement of the environment from the climate to the culture.
Architecture as place and place as architecture, are the ways to achieve a specific modernity worthy of being built and planned. From the interac ve and dialogical works of Mikhail Baj n, Paul Ricoeur and Lewis Mumford on architectural and urban space, as well as the theories and wri ngs of Rainer Zimmermann and Rober Slutzky will serve as a basis for the theore cal and prac cal discussion of architecture and urba-nism.
