5. Realised projects
5.1 Workshops for teachers
School dog training, March 2015, Dorsten
After being introduced to the school dog of our partner school in Rybnik during the last visit, three
of von Ketteler-teachers took their private dogs and visited a further training about educating dogs
to school dogs. They learned details about the practical use in school, requirements of both
teachers and dogs, as well as methods to introduce the school in class.
A school dog is especially useful for students of our school, as it can both risen the student´s
motivation by relaxing the atmosphere in class, as well as encouraging them to care for others.
See next page for pictures.

Whiteboard Introduction – Dorsten
With means out of the Comenius REGIO budget the von Ketteler-school could afford a digital
whiteboard. Connected to the internet several interactive teaching methods are possible.
In order to handle all possibilities of the board an employee of the whiteboard-company
introduced the teachers to the board.
28
March 2015 – Münster, Germany
On a conference about mathematics, several games were introduced to teach maths within a
playful context. Afterwards, the students in von Ketteler-Schule had a lot of fun testing them.

Comenius REGIO yearly conference in Bonn, Germany
Once a year members of Comenius REGIO and ERASMUS+ projects meet. This time a conference in
Bonn was held to bring together interested organizations (such as universities, cities and schools)
and those involved in a project right now. We presented our project and got many insights into
other projects. Also, we as teachers, have to be motivated once in a while – and discussing project
issues with others from all over Germany was incredibly interesting.

November 2014 - Dorsten
Handicrafts is a good way to motivate students. To get to know different tools, teachers of von
Ketteler-Schule did a machinery course on the 7th& 8th of November 2014. With the support of a
carpenter it was the task to build slats for breakfast and a picture frame within these two days. The
work with tools like a circular saw was a new experience to most of the participating teachers and
helped a lot to appraise the possibilities within handicrafts lessons.
Have a look for yourself…

October 2014 - Dorsten
Toys, toys, toys – where to put them?
Thanks to our partner, Dorstener Arbeit, students of class 9 built boxes for balls, rackets & other
games. Simultaneously they experienced work in an external environment, under supervision of
others than their teachers. It was motivating to work with tools towards a goal and, as you can see,
the results are brilliant.

Fall 2014 – Dorsten
Class 5 played the recorder – with all new equipment
Students of class 6b learn to play the recorder in order to find out about notes, music, rhythm and
different songs. Playing the instrument stimulates the finding of their own identity and the creation
of their self. The recorder is just an introduction, maybe some of the students are interested in
more and different instruments.

Fall 2014 – Dorsten
Newly equipped with table tennis rackets our students won a local tournament. Hurray!

School journey to Wangerooge
One of our highlights during Comenius REGIO was the realisation of a school journey to the island
of Wangerooge. Packed with all of our students and teachers we spent a whole week there and
experienced a lot. A for many of our students it was the first holiday experience of their life. Our
pictures give a pretty good impression of the actions done and precisely show that the students
were stuffed with a lot of motivation.
