PORTO ONLINE

Porto is well known all over the world, thanks to Port wine: a rich, generous wine produced on the banks of the Douro River. Porto Wine has left its mark on the city.

So, visiting the Porto Wine Cellars is mandatory: the various companies offer a unique opportunity to discover this universe of subtle charms, to learn the secrets of this generous wine and to taste it.

In 1996, UNESCO classified the historical area of Porto as "World Heritage" due to the history and beauty of the city.

This fact demonstrated the cultural and social vitality of the city, also certified by the existence of several Universities, art academies, conservatories, museums, etc.

The privileged location, facing both the Douro River and the Ocean; the old city; the 6 bridges that unite the two shores of the river; the thousands of small cafes at each corner….

PORTUGUESE CUISINE

Heads up, Portuguese Gastronomy follows the Mediterranean diet which involves a lot of vegetables, cereals, olive oil and rice. In terms of proteins we eat a lot of chicken, pork and all its derivatives. Portugal is a seafaring nation with a well-developed fishing industry and this is reflected in the amount of fish and seafood eaten. Portugal has been fishing and trading cod since the 15th century. Also popular are fresh sardines, octopus, squid, cuttlefish and shrimps.

Portuguese breakfasts often consist of fresh bread, with butter, ham, cheese or jam, accompanied with coffee, milk, tea or hot chocolate. A small espresso coffee is a very popular beverage had during breakfast enjoyed at home and at the many cafes that fea-ture in towns and cities throughout Portugal. Sweet pastries are also very popular, as well as breakfast cereal, mixed with milk or yogurt and fruit.

While you are here, you will have the opportunity to sample some of Portuguese Cuisine

and the famous “Francesinha”.

If you are a cuisine enthusiast, you can try to cook Portuguese food. See receipts here:
