Playing It CoolRealistic Fiction Story
By: Amrith, 5RK
One day, Mark was walking to his friends house
(whose name is Max) to play videogames. Mark was so
happy that he was going to Maxs house because he does
not have any videogames at his house. When he got
there, he heard yelling from Maxs house. It was the
voice of his teacher, Mr. Wilson. Mr. Wilson said toMax that if he does not get an A on the next test, he will
have to go to summer school. Then, Mr. Wilson walks
out the door at the exact time Mark goes inside through
the back door. So Mark asks Max if it was okay if Mark
could help Max study for the test. Max said, Yes. So,
for the next three hours, they were studying aboutmicroscopes and cells. The next day, Mark and Max
took the test and it turns out, Max did not get an A, he
got an A+! So, Mark and Max played videogames every
day.

Ways to Stay Active and HealthyBy: Nicolas, 4H
An important and yet simple way to stay healthy is to use the
food pyramid as a guide. Below are the five groups in the
food pyramid, along with the required daily servings.
-Grains: 3-6 servings
-Vegetables: 2.5 servings
-Fruits: 2-4 servings
-Dairy twice daily
-Meat and beans twice daily
Challenge yourself to try new healthy foods. Try at least one or two bites. You may like
it!
Snacks are also an important part of our day. You must time snacks carefully, at least 2-3
hours before meals and keep snacks small. Healthy foods arent the only things needed
to stay healthy. You should be physically active at least 30 minutes each day.
A way to get active is to enjoy the great outdoors and to do some sports like basketball,
baseball, or soccer. There are other ways to get active too, like jogging, swimming, or
just going for a walk. Even on rainy days, theres no excuse. Todays video programs
provide a variety of games that you can dance along with, jump, swing, and stretch to.
By making sure we have a balance between the energy consumed and the good choice
foods we eat, we can stay healthy. So what are you waiting for? Lets go outside!

Visiting Chicagos Famous Science
and Industry MuseumBy: Sahana, 4R
Last year during summer break, I was thinking about how tospend time on a rainy day. I got on idea of visiting a museum
in the city of Chicago. There are several museums withdifferent histories in Chicago and it was very difficult to choose as all are good in their theme. Finally, Idecided to go to the Museum of Science and Industry, as it would be helpful to improve my scientificknowledge. The museum is open for longer hours during the summer from 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.instead of closing at 4 p.m. Before going there, it would be a good idea to plan your visit by browsingthe information at the museums web site. I chose the subjects carefully so that I could spend the timeuseful during the visit. For example, I chose the subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Health,Space, Energy, Environment, Technology and displays in these subject areas.
I visited the museum at 9:30 a.m. I purchased the tickets online so that I didnt have to waste timewaiting in the line. It is a huge museum and one of the best in the world. Let me describe a couple ofthe highlights. The first one which came to my mind is the U-505 Submarine. It was a German
submarine which attacked the USA and their friendly countries during World War II. It was captured bythe US Navy in 1944. By touring inside, I could understand the technologies of last century and life ofthe sailors during that time.
The next one is the coal mine. It is one of the important fuels for our country and I was eager to knowhow they are produced. The coal mine tour answered several questions of mine. There was a displaywhich showed how the earthquake and tsunami are happening in our world. Like this, I saw severaldisplays which were amazing to learn about.
Overall, it was a very scientific visit and I was very happy that I could spend time usefully during therainy day. One day is not enough to see all the displays and information in the museum. If it is rainingfor couple of days, it would be a best place to visit and spend time to improve your scientific knowledge.
I hope you go to the Science and Industry Museum to learn more about science. I enjoyed the visit andlearned a lot.

Online SafetyBy: Parsva, 5W
Youve got mail! Surfingthe Web can be fun and informative, but
it can be dangerous, too. Someone might hack your
laptop. Never give out your address, home phone number,
parents work address/phone number, or school location
to a stranger without your parents permission. Never
download/install anything without your parentspermission. Never get together with anyone without your
parents permission. If a message makes you feel
uncomfortable, tell a parent right away. Never open
e-mails that come from an unknown source. Just delete
them. Never give anyone your user name or password
(even your best friend), other than your parents. Neversend a picture or anything to a stranger without checking
with your parents. Remember that people online might
not be who they say. Someone who says that she is a
12 year old girl could really be an older man.
