&I ound this assignment difficult just because it is hard to find nature

awake outside when it is snowing and below reezing. I used AperturePriority or most o these, except or the photo o my little dog. For thatphoto, I had to explore through a lot o different angles. It wasnt too hardbecause she was alling asleep on this comy blanket that I placed on ourbed. Its nice when animals can cooperate with the photo. It was darker

originally, so I changed the levels in photoshop and added vibrance andcontrast to it with aint burnt edges.

For the cactus plant photo, I had to change around the orientationo the cacti in the photo, but not by much. I wanted to get a nice contrastbetween the cactus in the oreground and the cacti in the background. Ithen went through various adjustment layers (hue/saturation, vibrance, color balance, levels) to try and get the right amount o color in this shotand added aint burnt edges to finish it off.

For the other dog photo, I wanted to really bring out the Huskys

eyes rather than have them drowned out by the surrounding snow. Ichanged levels to lighten it up (because it was originally too dark) and thenproceeded to bring up the saturation and vibrance in order to bring outmore color. I then added a black & white adjustment layer and altered thered channel and used the mask to bring back color in his eyes, ears, nose, and tag. Te final touch were some aint burnt edges. It was un to shootthese, but not easy to find in the winter!

FlexibleEditsTis really helped me to see the value in adjustment layers and smart

filters. It was a great learning experience that helped me to understand thehard work that goes into creating messages with photography.

For the first shot o the white flower (calla lily), I wanted to try andbring out the flower in the oregound because it had some un curves andtextures to itsel. Te lighting inside the green room was difficult, so I hadto mess around with white balance a lot. It came out a little warmer than

I would have liked, so I adjusted the levels and the color balance. OnceI was able to get more o the white on the flower, I did a black & whiteadjustment layer and brought color back to only the flower and little bit othe stem. I noticed that the flowers in the background (because they werealready lightly blurred) made kind o a smoke effect in black and white. Inorder to accent that more, I gave the flower more vibrance and used a smartfilter with a gaussian blur and blurred everything in the background. Tefinal touch was burnt edges.

For the second flower photo, again, lighting was difficult and I had tomess with the white balance a lot. I really wanted to bring out the red romthe rest o the plants and oliage in the greenhouse, so I used adjustmentlayers in levels, vibrance, color balance, selective color, and hue/saturation.Afer bring out the red more, I wanted the flower in the oreground to popeven more, so I converted or a smart filter and used a gaussian blur andblurred everything in the background. I used a lower opacity on the brushor the mask, so the red flower gave off more o a sof glow. Adjustmentlayers and smart filters are wonderul when used properly, especially whenworking with tricky lighting.

    ColorStudy

One o the hardest parts o this assignmentwas just decidingwhich dominant color I was going to choose. Once I chose red, itelt like I could find it most anywhere! One o the hardest parts omy photo shoot is that it became overcast quickly and I lost mygood afernoon lighting. I realized that I would get the best that Icould with what I had and that I could edit the levels on Photoshopin the post-production process. Te other trial that I had was tryingto shoot with the snow on the ground. I tried to increase exposure, but the snow made every photo too bright. I generally shot at a lowexposure and changed the levels in photoshop. It really challenged

    me and I enjoyed that!

    BlendType&

Both o these assignments were more challenging than expected. In the blending project, I spent most o my time trying to set the levelscorrectly so that the texture image and the main image would blendtogether well. I tried to add another texture o a brick wall on top o thosetwo, but it made the image look overexposed no matter how I adjustedit, so I lef it out. With the type project, it takes a real talent to try and getthe proper ocus on the words that you want to come out. For me, I hadso many words that seemed repetitive that it took me awhile to try andsmooth it out so it wasnt so overpowering. I just wanted to be sure thatthe essence o the flower could be elt.

    PriorityModes

I really enjoyed taking all o these photos to test the PriorityModes on the camera. I can see how they would be effective whentrying to adjust the camera settings in a quick manner in orderto capture moments that could quickly pass. It really takes anunderstanding o your camera to be able to get every shot how youwant it. Te photo that I had the hardest time with was the deepocus shot. I ound it difficult to get the ocus just right. Afer a ewattempts and lots o walking around, the shots came out. A trueskilled art or open eyes and a steady hand.

    CameraRaw

For the need o doing quick and effective edits, CameraRaw has proven itsel to be one o the best discoveries that wasintroduced to me. Photos that would have taken me anywhere rom15 to 30 minutes with adjustment layers in photoshop can take mea mere ew minutes in Camera Raw to achieve the same effect. Oneo the great advantages is how smoothly it transitions with AdobePhotoshop and Adobe Bridge in order to speed up workflow andsave on storage space or other projects.
