According to the medical dictionary the suffix –tropin means:
“stimulating effect of a hormone or other substance on a target organ or system“
Tropin means to make something do or react. For example if someone touch your arm your body acts with a response.
Somatotropin- This is also known as Growth Hormone (GH). Somatotropin is secreted by anterior pituitary.
One of several different hormones
Somatotropin promotes growth of body by stimulating cells to rapidly increase in size and divide.
Adrenocorticotropin hormone (ACTH)-Regulates the function of the thyroid gland
Gonadotropins- The two hormones Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and Luteinizing hormone (LH) together are called gonadotropins.
Both hormones exert influence on male and female gonads.
The suffix –crine means to secrete.
"(condition of) endocrine secretion": hypercrinia, neurocrinia
For example: endocrine means the endocrine gland secretions are carried to other internal body structures by the bloodstream.
Exocrine means the glands are secreting outside the body. This would be an example of sweating.
Cortisol is responsible for regulating carbohydrate levels in the body.
Aldosterone regulates electrolytes and fluid volume in body.
These glands together affect the function of the entire body.
