Thakurgaon and 500 from Kurigram District)

dairy producers, Milk collectors, Traditional
milk products sellers, Milk vendors, Private and
cooperative milk processors.
• Department of Livestock Services (DLS),
• Grameen Motsho O Pashusampad Foundation (GMPF) and
• Bangladesh Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Ltd.(Milk vita).
COMPONENT 1: Milk production enhancement
Activity 1.1 Undertake baseline surveys and studies:
•A baseline survey was completed in 2011 in 3 districts of project areas (500 farmers).
•In December, 2014, evaluation survey was conducted in 3 districts (1250 farmers)

•120 Dairy Field School Training Programme focusing on Dairy Cattle rearing, management, housing, feeding, fodder cultivation, artificial insemination and first aid of cattle treatment.

• A Seminar on “Livestock feeding & nutrition-global perspective and options for Bangladesh” was held at the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute, Savar, Dhaka on 26 September 2013.

Training on dairy cattle management
• Additional 50 batches (30 in Sirajgonj, 10 in Thakurgaon & 10 in Kurigram) of
field school training programme organized
• 1250 farmers trained

Introduce feed mill to farmers
A feed mill shed with machineries installed at Billaspur
Unit, Nimgachi, Sirajgonj for GMPF
The capacity of the feed mill is 300 kg/hour.
Total 34,841 kg feed distributed to SDDP beneficiaries
during April 2014 to April 2015.
Project has procured 22,776 kg of different feed
ingredients for GMPF feed mill .

Activity 1.4 Promote MPOs to add value / empower rural communities:
2,000 beneficiaries 1112 linked with Milk vita,
356 linked with BRAC Dairy and 237 linked with Pran Dairy in
Baghbarighat, Lahirimohonpur, Nimgachi, Noggin and Chatmohor
area.
A total of 1,705 (85.25 %) beneficiaries have been linked to
organized milk collection centers via farmers groups and
cooperative societies.
Activity 1.5 Demonstrate environmentally sound farming / waste management:
58 Nos. of bio-digesters installed and training organized by GMPF
Activity 1.6 Organize vocational and outreach training: 19 participants on local dairy products (Chana, sweet curd, sweet meat, ghee, rasomalai and rasogolla ) at DTC, Savar on 15-16 April,2015 .

2.1 : Undertake baseline surveys and studies

2.2 : Select and transfer modern/adapted technologies To operate these two plants need huge capital investment. Milk Vita is
trying to arrange the fund but it will take time. So the drinking Yoghurt production may not be possible in project period.
2.3: Pilot Milk Processing Enterprises Not implemented due to financial constraints
2.4: Introduce and update workable milk food safety standard and system:
In Bangladesh Milk and Milk Products Standard has been setup by the Government Regulatory Authority i.e., BANGLADESH STANDARD AND TESTING INSTITUTION (BSTI).

• Bangladesh launched a pilot school milk program in Srajganj district from 24 /08/2013.
• The pilot targets 2000 children and provides 200 ml pasteurized fresh milk to primary grade children on all school
days in 7 schools.
• Milk has been supplied free of cost by Milk Vita.
• In PY 4Milk vita is supporting one more pilot School Milk Programme in Tala Upazilla under Satkhira district targeting
the same number of children in ten schools.
• The project will support the material and supplies (including the cost of milk) for continuation of the pilots in PY 4 (up
to USD60000).

Identity Cards have been issued to all students of 7 schools of School Milk Programme
Chemical and Microbiological tests of school milk
(Standard Plate Count has increased due to long time storing of milk in the deep freeze but it is far below than the BSTI standard)
