    Dual Language

    In addition to rigorous academic content that can be found at every DC Public School, a number of specialized programs are offered at schools to further enrich student experiences in the classroom.

    At DCPS dual language schools, students study grade-level content in both English and Spanish, developing reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in every grade and subject. Dual language is offered at the following schools:

    Extended-YearTo provide students with more time and opportunity to deepen their learning in core subjects and explore other areas of interest like the arts and foreign languages, DCPS has added an additional 20 days of learning to the school year at 11 schools.     At SEM schools, students participate in unique programming that allows them to study topics of their own choosing in an environment that emphasizes student inquiry and self-directed learning. Students experience frequent field trips and host in-class guests to better understand the enriching topics they are studying and the academic passions they are developing.     DCPS believes that all students deserve access to enriching experiences that augment their learning in core subjects. Here are some of the many offerings that all students have opportunities to participate in.

    District-Wide Offerings

    All DCPS students from PK3 through high school receive world language instruction. At least one of seven world languages is offered at every DCPS school, including American Sign Language, Arabic, French, Italian, Latin, Mandarin Chinese, and Spanish.
