Finding a Journal, Magazine or Newspaper in the library

Enter journal title in this search box. Use down arrow to select relevant search option: title begins with, title contains, and title equals

Title Begins With SearchTitle Begins With searches Journal Finder for all titles beginning with the word or words you enter and brings up an alphabetical list of periodicals. Example: Searching for all journals beginning with Psychological retrieves the following list. Select the exact title you need from that list.

Title Contains SearchTitle Contains is useful when you cant remember the exact title of the periodical.Example: Journal of Abnormal Child Psychology maybe searched by typing child psychology into the search box.

Title Equals SearchIf you know the exact title of a periodical you can use Title Equals. This is especially good for one-word titles such as Ms. or Science.Example: A title equals search for New Yorker retrieves the following:

New Yorker is available in print and online. To see online coverage through our databases, select the online icon. To see our print or microform holdings select the print icon. If a journal is not available in either format in our library, it can be requested through interlibrary loan by clicking on place an interlibrary loan request. For help with ILL requests, please go to the reference desk.

Online JournalsClicking on the online link will show us the availability of the journal through our online databases. Notice the dates of coverage in each database. Full-text coverage begins in 2002 in one database and from 2004 in the remaining 5 databases. For articles prior to 2002, consult our print holdings.

Click on the New Yorker link corresponding to the database of your choice to view articles from each volume/year. Lets click on the first New Yorker link. See following slide for details.

Online Journals Contd.

Clicking on the first link takes you to this page with the dates of the journal starting with the most recent on top. Select the month/year of your choice for a listing of issues. This will bring up the issues. Select the exact issue which has your article. You can also click on this link to search within the publication and find the article. On the following screen you will see the journal title in the search box. After the title, type and and then enter your article title in the search box to locate the article within the publication. Selecting April retrieves links to individual issues. Select the relevant issue to find articles in that issue.

Searching for article within the PeriodicalClicking on that link will take us to the search screen in the database. Type and after the journal title followed by the article title. Then click on search to find the article in the database.

Print JournalsClicking on the Print icon will take you to the library catalog. Select the first record which has print and online. The second record is online only.

Select this record.

Print Journals Contd.Clicking on Print journal will also display our microfilm or microfiche holdings as in this screenshot. We have New Yorker on microfilm from V. 1*1825) through Volume 84 (2008). Journals in print, microfilm and microfiche are on the ground floor. For help with microfilm, please go to the Periodicals desk on the ground floor.

This journal is available in microfilm or online as we saw earlier. We do not have print copies of this journal.

Journal Finder Advanced SearchClick on Advanced Search under the Journal Finder search box to get to the Advanced Search screen.

Advanced Search OptionsAdvanced Search allows you to search journals by ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) which is usually assigned to every journal that is published.You can also search electronic journals.

Article FinderIf you scroll down below the electronic journal titles, you will see the Article Finder search box. Fill in as much information as you have into the relevant boxes and click on Search to locate an article in our databases.
