OBJECTIVES

History of Tan Tock Seng Hospital Development of equipments used by the

nurses in the past Nursing care in the past and present

TAN TOCK SENG HOSPITAL It was formed in 1844. Mr Tan Tock Seng is the founder of the

hospital.

Mr. Tan donated Spanish $7,000 to build the first hospital for the poor people in Singapore.

This hospital was first named as Chinese Pauper’s Hospital. Then in 1850, it was officially called as Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Although the construction of the hospital had started in 1844, but the building was only ready in 1849.

From 1852- 1854 the hospital collected public donation.

In 1856, The hospital had to move between the junction sarangoon road and Balester road.

In 1990, a new plan for building a hospital with modern and technological development.

In 1999 , they opened the new hospital by deputy prime minister Mr .lee hsian long.

It was fully operated in May 1999.

FACILITIES There are 1,211 beds in 34 ward.

EQUIPMENTS IN THE PAST In the past drip bottles used to be in

glass but now it is in plastic.

In 1850-1990, nursing concerned with providing care to physical needs of patient and maintaining a hygienic environment.

But nowadays nursing means a lot more.

Nurses nowadays concentrate more on patient’s mental health when compare to the past.Nurses nowadays have better communication skills than before.

Nowadays paper-work of nurses increased

More advanced skills are required Examples:venepuncture,

cannulation,IVI drug
