Description—Firetrol® FTA1250 Part Winding Start-ing Fire Pump Controllers can be used where the char-acteristics of the power source do not permit full volt-age starting. The controller monitors, displays andrecords fire pump system information.

When the controller is actuated by the pressureswitch, START pushbutton, deluge valve contact, etc.,the first contactor closes, connecting one of the mo-tor windings to the line. During starting, the motor willdraw approximately 65% of its normal locked rotor

current and develop approximately 42% of its normalstarting torque. After a time delay, the secondcontactor closes, connecting the second winding inparallel with the first. The motor then draws its normal

running current and develops its rated torque.

Description—Firetrol® FTA1300 Wye-Delta, OpenTransition Starting Fire Pump Controllers are usedwith delta-wound squirrel cage motors. FTA1300 con-trollers are of the open circuit transition type in whichthe motor circuit is opened during the transition fromstart to run. The controller monitors, displays andrecords fire pump system information.

Actuating the controller by the pressure switch, STARTpushbutton or deluge valve contact closes the startcontactor connecting the motor to the line in the wyeconnection. The motor will draw approximately 33%of its normal inrush current and develop approximately33% of its normal starting torque. After a time delay, the motor is automatically reconnected in delta, ap-plying full voltage to the motor windings. These con-trollers are recommended especially for use with gen-

erator sets.

Description—Firetrol® FTA1500 Primary Resistance

Fire Pump Controllers use resistors in the line to re-

duce line voltage when starting the pump motor. The

controller monitors, displays and records fire pump

system information.

The circuit to the motor is not opened during the tran-

sition from start to run. While starting, the motor will

draw 50% of full load starting current and supply 25%

of rated torque. This method of starting minimizes

line disturbances and voltage drop when starting.

Approvals—Firetrol fire pump controllers are listedby Underwriters' Laboratories, Inc., in accordance with

UL218, Standard for Fire Pump Controllers, CSA,

Standard for Industrial Control Equipment , and ap-

proved by Factory Mutual. They are built to meet or

exceed the requirements of the approving authorities

as well as NEMA and the latest editions of NFPA 20,

Installation of Centrifugal Fire Pumps, and NFPA 70,

National Electrical Code.

Description—Firetrol® FTA1900 Solid State StartingFire Pump Controllers feature soft start, soft stop andsystem sensing capabilities that not only provide for reduced voltage starting, but also offer an improvedlevel of hydromechanical performance. The controller monitors, displays and records fire pump system in-formation.When called to run, the motor will accelerate along aramp beginning at 40% of normal starting current with15% of full voltage torque. When stopping, the motor will ramp down to a preset level and allow for a re-start, limiting stress in the piping system. If no addi-tional starting causes are present, the motor will con-tinue to ramp down to a full stop. This controller helpsto reduce water hammer in the system.

Product Description Alarm Panels

Electric Fire Pump Controllers

FTA200-AFTA200-B

Description—Firetrol®  FTA200 alarm panels are

designed to meet the NPFA 20 specifications requir-

ing a remote alarm panel when the pump house or

pump room is not constantly attended. The alarm

panel must be installed in a location that is under

supervision at all times.

Approvals—These alarm panels are listed by

Underwriter’s Laboratories, Inc., in accordance with

UL508, Standard for Industrial Controls, certified by

CSA, Standard for Industrial Control Equipment

(cUL), approved by the New York City Bureau of Elec-

trical Control and Board of Standards and Appeals

and Factory Mutual. They are designed to meet or

exceed the requirements of the approving authori-

ties listed above as well as NFPA 20, Installation of

Centrifugal Fire Pumps.

Standard Features—The following are included as

standard with each controller:

Type A - Type A panels provide audible and visible

alarm indication for the following conditions:

Supervisory Voltage Normal Pump Operating

Pump Phase Failure

Pump Phase Reversal

Type B - Type B panels provide the same alarm in-

dication as the Type A except that SUPERVISORY

POWER FAILURE does not have the audible alarm

feature. Only a visible alarm indication is provided.

Construction - FTA200 alarm panels make use of printed circuit boards which provide reliable and

trouble free service. The enclosures are NEMA Type

2 (IEC IP11) drip-proof for indoor wall mounting. The

standard enclosure color is red.

Mounted on the enclosure door are the pilot lights

for visible alarm indication, the audible device for

audible alarm indication, the SILENCE ALARM

pushbutton and the PUSH-TO-TEST pushbutton.

Each pilot light will illuminate to indicate its alarm

condition and will remain lighted until the abnormal

condition has been corrected. The audible alarm

will sound when the alarm conditions occur and will

continue to sound until the abnormal condition has

been corrected or the SILENCE ALARM pushbutton

has been pressed. Pressing the SILENCE ALARM

pushbutton will silence the audible alarm but will not

extinguish the pilot light. If another alarm condition

occurs the audible alarm will again sound until si-

lenced by the SILENCE ALARM pushbutton or until

the abnormal condition has been corrected.

The PUSH-TO-TEST pushbutton is supplied for

manually testing the pilot lights, audible alarm and

output circuits.

Modifications—The following are available as modi-fications to the controllers:Special Enclosures-F NEMA Type 4X, 304 stainless (IEC IP56)-Y NEMA Type 1 ( IEC IP10) Flush Mount,

Painted SteelConsult Factory for other style enclosures. Additional Alarm Functions  Each additional alarm function ordered will in-clude a control relay and pilot light and will provideaudible and visible alarm. There is no limit as to thenumber of additional alarm functions that can besupplied, however, enclosure size and weight maybe affected. Consult the Factory for dimensions andshipping weights when ordering more than 2 addi-tional alarms.  Standard remote alarms may be ordered by us-ing the Suffix Letters indicated for the correspond-ing alarm function on the Electric Fire Pump Con-troller. Alarm functions must exist in the controller tobe ordered as remote alarms.
