Hear how Hiram alumnus Erik Weyls, uses his entrepreneurial skill set everyday as president of the North America division of Coventya, a world leader in specialty chemicals for metal plating. Wednesday, September 22, 2010 Global E-Commerce! with Michael Keresman, III, CEO, President and Chairman of Cardinal Commerce Corporation. Hear how Michael has consistently utilized his expertise and knowledge to grow CardinalCommerce from a start-up company to the world-wide leading enabler of payment brands with a global reach extending to Europe, Africa, North and South America, Asia, and Australia. Join us every Wednesday evening for an hour or so of stimulating conversation with local entrepreneurs! If you have ever wondered how businesses or organizations get started, here’s the chance to find out. Each Wednesday an entrepreneur will tell their story. Some of these entrepreneurs may be well seasoned, some may be just starting out. Hear how they did it…what they did right…what they might do differently…and what they might do next! Next Wednesday, September 8, 2010, Integrated Entrepreneurship welcomes Jim (’88) and Karen (’89) Scher, owners of a specialty mustard company. Jim discovered his recipe aſter years of experimenting with mustard variations in his home kitchen. He shared his pepper mustard with his friends, was persuaded to make his product available com- mercially, and then launched his product in 2009. Wednes- day night, we’ll hear how Jim and Karen moved from work- ing in their kitchen to meeting the intense demand of their product! Hope to see you in East Hall, 7 p.m., by the fireplace! Fireside Chats Resume September 8! is summer, four Hiram College students, Ian Barton ’11, Andrew Whims ’11, Nitisha Shrestha ’12, and Francesca Luppino ’12 have been actively involved in establishing the Hiram Genomics Store, a student run establishment under Hiram Ventures, Inc. Based on nine years of outreach collaboration between Hiram faculty, students, and local high schools, it is an educator-to-educator enterprise advised by Hiram College faculty members Brad Goodner, Bill Fillner, and Audrey Cunningham. Hiram Students Launch Genomics Store ? Question of the Week—Win Pizza from Gionino’s! In the late 1700s, the French government had a real problem. They decided to hold a contest, awarding the problem-solving winner 12,000 francs. It took 14 years, but a young man won the contest and was given his award personally by Napoleon. His canny idea was the forerunner to something we see in every grocery store today, only now these objects don’t need to be opened by hammers! Who was the winner of the contest, what was his idea, and what are the objects we still use today? Correct answers will be entered in a drawing for a free large pizza from Gionino’s! Submit your answers to [email protected] by Thursday, September 2.
