    FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH

Welcome in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

If you are visitor or newcomer, here is some helpful, basic information:

Bibles (blue cover) and hymnbooks (brown cover) are provided for your use.

A nursery is available in the lower hall for infants and toddlers.

Washrooms are also located in the lower hall.

If you wish to have a cushion or hard of hearing headset, please speak to one of the ushers who will be happy to obtain these items for you.

We invite you to complete one of the blue Visitor Cards in the pew rack and place it in the offering plate toward the end of the worship service. This will help us get to know you better!

Please silence cell phones, pagers and other electronics. Speak softly, move slowly and allow each one present to listen for God’s voice.

Many people have allergies to fragrances and perfumes, so we try to keep our church a scent-free zone in consideration of the health and wellbeing of others! Thank you!

You are about to meet with the Almighty God, Creator of all things! We strongly encourage you to prepare for this meeting. Take a few moments to be silent. Read and reflect on the Scripture lessons listed in the service bulletin. Pray for God’s blessing, presence and guidance and for right understanding of God’s Word to us – the Bible. Perhaps this prayer may help you begin your preparation today: God, You made known to your servant Mary the good news of the world’s redemption in the coming of Jesus the messiah, her first born child. Make our hearts leap with joy, and fill our mouths with songs of praise, that we may worship you enthusiastically today, and welcome the Christ in our midst. Amen.

    THE GATHERING OF GOD’S PEOPLE

Music for Gathering Becky Nelson *The Introit “Christian People Sing Together” Congregation (Tune: Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee)

Christian people, sing together, all united in one voice.

Though we come from many cultures, yet in Christ we all rejoice.

In our daily lives we’re scattered, searching God in various ways. Now in worship we’re united, giving Him our thanks and praise.

*Hymn of Praise “All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name” (vs. 1 & 2) #96 (The children go directly downstairs during the singing of this hymn.)

The Apostles’ Creed Congregation I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ His only Son, our Lord, Who was

conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified dead and buried. He

descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God

the Father Almighty, from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy

catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen

Old Testament: Genesis 2:15-17, 3:1-6 (O.T. pg. 2) Norma Holtslander

Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 8 Leader: O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is

your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.

Congregation: Out of the mouths of babes and infants

you have founded a bulwark because of your foes, to silence the enemy and the

    avenger.

Leader: When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that

you have established; what are human

beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them?

Congregation: Yet you have made them a little lower than God, and crowned them with glory

    and honor. You have given them dominion over the works of your hands;

Leader You have put all things under their feet, all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field the birds of the air, and the fish of the

sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

Sermon “Mary for Protestants” Mark McKim

RESPONSE TO THE WORD AND RETURN TO THE WORLD

*Hymn of Response “My Soul Proclaims the Lord, My God” Congregation Tune: Amazing Grace

This hymn of praise to God is based on Mary’s Song of Praise as recorded in Luke 1.46-55. Mary’s song is often called the “Magnificat” from the opening

word in Latin, the language used by the church in the western world for many centuries.

Our souls proclaim the Lord, our God. Our spirits sing God’s praise.

God looks on us, he lifts us up, And hope does fill our days.

    All nations now will share the joy;

Great gifts God has outpoured. For Mary’s Son is truly Christ,

    We magnify the Lord!

God’s mercy is forevermore, His praise shall never die!

God’s strong right arm puts down the proud The humble, raises high.

    God fills the hungry with good things;

The rich are sent away. The promise made to Abraham

    is filled to endless day.

    Magnificat, magnificat, Magnificat, praise God!

Praise God, praise God, praise God, Praise God, Magnificat, praise God!

Choose you this day, say yes or no

To Christ, the King of Kings! Choose endless life or endless woe,

    Choose death or endless joy!

evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever

    and ever. Amen.

Queen City Marathon The Queen City Marathon will be held this year on Sunday morning,

September 8, 2013. For the last two years we have staffed an aid station on the route. This is an opportunity for us to connect with the wider, non-church community and it is also something which FBC and FKBC do together as a joint ministry, with many of the

Karen youth participating. Dr. Bill Silver (306-584-1953) will again be our aid station coordinator.

There will be a (required) orientation meeting for all the aid station volunteers on Saturday, September 7th at 4:00p.m. together with a

Vespers Worship Service at 5:00 p.m. for both volunteers and marathon participants. Both events will be held at the church.

If you are willing to be a volunteer with the Aid Station please

contact Bill Silver as soon as possible. ___________________________________________________________________
