Flower Calendar A wonderful way to mark a special day in the life of a loved one is to provide flowers for worship with a special dedication in the church bulletin. Available first quarter dates are: January 11 & 25; February 1 & 8; and March 1, 8, and 22. Contact the church office to reserve one of these dates or sign up in the parlor during the month of January.

Men’s Breakfast Our speaker for the December 14, breakfast was Mrs. Kathy Black, a Bible teacher from the Mooresville Area Bible Teachers Association (MABTA). Kathy discussed the 21-year history of the MABTA and over that period of time 128 classes of Bible have been offered which have served nearly 3200 students!!!! Hallie Omohundro of our congregation and a student at Mooresville High, shared some of her personal experiences with the Bible Classes.

Our speaker for the January 11, 2015, breakfast will be Mr. Allen Brawley of our congregation who will share with us photos and accounts of his recent trip to Europe. Breakfast will be served promptly at 8:00 a.m. in the fellowship hall by Bill Brawley and his kitchen crew. We would be delighted if you would join us.

Gene Vaughan; Presbyterian Men-Chairperson

A Message from Pastor Dave “So deeply do we care for you that we are determined to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you have become very dear to us.” - 1 Thessalonians 2:8

A year ago January, Mooresville, North Carolina was barely on the map. I was preparing for an initial phone interview with the PNC that would maybe or maybe not have an impact on OUR future. Although I cannot speak for the PNC, the conversation that eventually took place was sig-nificant enough to disrupt the next several months of my life. For those of you who have switched jobs or relocated a family, you probably understand what I mean by disruption- physically, spiritu-

ally, and emotionally. The prospect of a calling carried with it the excitement of vision and newness along with the weight of potential good-bye’s and deeply wanting to do the right thing. In the midst of this process of discernment and prayer, Mooresville, NC, went from being a blip on the map to the center of my family’s universe!

All this to say-- as we enter a new calendar year, my family is thrilled to be a part of this FPC Mooresville community. Was the moving process easy? No. Are there aspects of our former life that are still being mourned and missed? Yes and perhaps for some of us more than others. However, we not only feel embraced in our new setting, but have a strong sense that this is where God wants us to be. Our family looks forward to the opportunities and challenges we will face as we forge ahead under God’s guidance into the future.

As we enter 2015, may the Lord bless you! We feel privileged serve alongside you in ministry.

In Christ, Dave Rockness

Note of Thanks Over the past year, our family has been very blessed with so many expressions of love with get well cards, visits, delicious food, prayers, help with transportation to and from doctors’ visits, and the hospital and a lovely bereavement luncheon. And a special thank you to Jen McNeely and Lisa Davidson for their lovingly prepared and served refreshments following Byron’s memorial ser-vice. A grateful thank you, one and all. Shirley Crowley

It’s Not Too Late to Complete a Time and Talent Survey

If you haven’t had an opportunity to fill out a Time and Talent Survey, the form is available on the church website at http://www.mooresvillefpc.org/#/resources/forms-and-policies and in the sanctuary and parlor. Everyone has a talent and a place of service in the work of the church. The forms are designed to help you find yours. There is a particular appeal for members who are willing to partici-pate in worship by ushering, greeting, and reading. If this is your gift, please consider signing up. Completed forms may be turned into the church office.

If you have a key to enter the church after office hours, we need to hear from you. Please contact

the church office (704-664-5275 or [email protected]) so we can verify your assigned key. There is a number code imprinted on each key that should be on file in the church office.

Also, if you no longer need a key to the building, please return your key to the church office. We currently have a shortage of keys available to loan out. It would be helpful, if those of you who no longer need a key assigned to you would return them. We hope to replenish a supply of keys and avoid the expense of having more keys made.

Keys, Please

Eagle Scout Project to Benefit Mooresville Christian Mission For my eagle project I will be converting a section of the Christian Mission in Mooresville into a fully functioning thrift shop. This project includes new flooring, shelving, lighting, and paint to create an appealing retail space. Currently, the Christian Mission distributes goods to local residents in need from a space that is merely designed to be warehouse storage. Not only will this eagle project serve to create a thrift shop, the shop will also serve as an opportunity to train less fortunate individuals, skills needed to find employment in the community while earning an income being employed within the thrift shop. Clients of the Christian Mission will be able to shop and get items they need for free in the thrift shop. Other Mooresville residents will also be able to shop in a good will style thrift store. To make this eagle project possible, the Christian Mission and I will need about $1,500 in funds to get the store up and running. We are asking for help funding this project. If you would like to make a contribution, checks can be made out to Troop 166 (earmarked for Hunter McClure Eagle Scout Project) and will be collected by Hunter McClure. You are also welcome to participate in the labor and execution of this project by contacting Hunter at 704-677-6539. Thanks for your prayerful consideration for this eagle scout project. Hunter McClure

Ministries of Care There are two “quiet” ministries of care that are ongoing at First Presbyterian. One is the Prayer Shawl Group. This group meets monthly at the home of Thelma Vaughan, where dedicated crafters gather to knit or crochet shawls that are given to those who are ill or dispirited. If you would like to learn more about this ministry, please contact Jerilyn Fair or Thelma Vaughan.

Another special program that provides encouragement to those who are homebound, sick, or bereaved is the Flower Ministry. Each week a group of ladies come to the church to make beautiful bouquets from the large floral arrangements used in worship. The individual arrangements are delivered to various homes, hospitals, or nursing homes to brighten the day of someone whose spirits may need a lift. Thank you to Jane James, who coordinates the deliveries and to Greta McCrea and Nikki Robinson whose artistic touch arranges the flowers for others to enjoy.

Preschool News Happy New Year, Preschool Families!

We hope you made lots of memories with your little ones during the Christmas season. The teachers and I were so proud of your little ones’ performance for

our Christmas Programs. The children sang with all their hearts and got us all in the true spirit of Christmas! While we have enjoyed our Christmas break, we are excited to return. We’ve missed all our Preschoolers’ smiles and hugs!

Enrollment Forms are coming home the beginning of January, so be on the lookout for them. We have changed the format of our enrollment forms, so please review your paperwork closely. We have created a check-list to help you keep track of your child’s paperwork. Please complete these forms and include your Registra-tion fee ($75 for Church Members, $85 for non-church members) by Friday, January 23. Specific class assign-ments will be sent to you in the mail in July.

We are excited to have Preschool-wide Pajama Days on January 8 and 9. This is the week we come back from our break. It’s a fun day for all the children to dress in their PJ’s and we’ll have pancakes for a special snack. Please send your child in tennis shoes or regular school shoes, as slippers can be a bit slippery.

Just a quick reminder, Preschool will be closed on January 19 and 20 in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. We hope 2015 is a happy and healthy one for you and your family!
