season are watchful waiting, preparation, and justice.

God, our loving Father, you sent your Son, Jesus, into this world to counter all the forces of evil, and to overcome evil with the force of good and hatred with

the power of love. Help us never to curse the darkness, but to join with you in

CHRISTMAS WAFERS – DID YOU KNOW… CHRISTMAS WAFERS DID YOU KNOW…

The breaking of the Christmas wafer is a custom that began in Poland in the 10th century and is practiced by people of Polish ancestry around the world. It is considered the most ancient and beloved of Polish traditions. The tradition traces

its origins to the times of early Christianity and is seen as a non-sacramental foreshadowing of the liturgical partaking of the Holy Eucharist The Christmas wafer symbolizes the unity of the family, which many consider to be the main pillar of society. According to beliefs, the bond of unity should exist between family members. Christmas Wafers will be available during Advent (while supplies last) in the Gathering Space after all the Masses. For those unable to get to Mass, we will also have a limited supply in the Parish Office.

    FIRSST SUNDAY OF ADVENT

First Reading: Isaiah 63:16b‐17, 19b, 64:2‐7 In this straight-forward psalm, the people aacknowledge their sinful ways, yet plead that their Creator might reveal himself tto them. They ask God to remember, not their sins, but that “We are all the work of your hands.”

Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 1:3-9 Paul explains to the Corinthians that they are sspecially favored by God who has sent his only Son to them. He reminds us all tthat it was through God’s grace that we have been called to kinship with Christ

Gospel: Mark 13:33-37 Just as a servant watching over the master’s house does nnot know when he will return, we do not know the hour of the Second Coming. MMark reminds us of the warning from Jesus to always be on guard, for we know nnot the day nor the hour.
