ST. PETER PARISH MISSION STATEMENT

We, the believers of St. Peter Parish, having our beginnings as the earliest Catholic Church of the Archdiocese of New Orleans on the Northshore, in response to God's call, come together:

to love God and one another to worship as a faith community to be God's hands, heart and mind and to provide for our community's spiritual and

physical needs

In doing this, we glorify God and help realize His reign on earth. While rejoicing in the experience of our pilgrimage, we must ever keep in mind our ultimate destination through our faithful stewardship of time, talent and treasure. Called to be a prayerful and hospitable Catholic family of living faith, we welcome and invite all people to share in our unique gifts of the Holy Spirit.

The Vocation Committee of St. Peter Parish is inviting all women of the parish to commit to offer the graces of their Eucharist on every first Sunday of each month. All women are invited to embrace a life of spiritual motherhood by praying for an increase in religious vocations and by making a commitment to intercede both prayerfully and through mortifications for the holiness of existing vocations. Next Sunday, December 4th, is the first Sunday of the month. May all women of the parish prayerfully consider this offering of graces.

NAIM

NAIM will gather for their Christmas luncheon at Zea Rotisserie & Grill, Saturday, December 3rd, at noon. All widows and widowers are invited to attend. Any questions, please call Nancy Ferry @ 985.809.5751.

Did You Know? It is a tradition at St. Peter Parish that families bring their four can-dles for their home Advent wreaths to church the first Sunday of Advent to be blessed.

Everyone is invited to bring their candles on the First Sunday of Advent, (November 26/27) to be blessed for their Home Advent Wreath. The candles will be blessed at each Mass.

FAITH FACT

The History of the Advent Wreath

As we celebrate the First Sunday of Advent, this week’s Faith Fact discusses the history of the Advent wreath and provides a short, traditional prayer service for families lighting the wreath each evening. Copies are available in the back of church and on our parish and school websites.

“The greatest sin today is that men have lost the sense of sin." (Pope Pius XII)

An Examination of Conscience for Adults

Advent season is upon us...the perfect time to pre-pare our souls for the coming of Christ. The Sacra-ment of Penance offers the opportunity for clean-sing, conversion and renewal. God's infinite mercy is awaiting our response! Now is a good time to spend a few days reflecting, with the aid of the Holy Spirit, on how we have opposed God's will for us by performing a thorough, probing examination of conscience before approaching the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Limited copies of a pamphlet enti-tled "An Examination of Conscience for Adults" is available on the Advent table for those adults seek-ing a deeper, guided reflection.

It ’s HERE…. St. Peter Parish’s

Angel Tree You can Pick your special angel this weekend.

Participants are asked to put angel gifts in gift bags (with the angel chosen on the outside of the bag) and RETURN under the tree next weekend, Dec. 3 & 4

Please note: It is the only weekend for return-ing the angel tree gifts.

Do you want to make a cash donation?

Please make a check out to St. Peter Church and note Angel Tree at the bottom of the check. It may be left at the Rectory or mailed to St. Peter

Church at 125 E. 19th Ave. Covington, LA 70433.

Thank You for your generosity!

The First Friday and First Saturday Devotions to The Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary

The First Friday of each month was designated by our Savior Himself as a day to be consecrated to honoring His Sacred Heart. Attendance at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is assuredly the best means of honoring and loving the adorable Heart of Jesus.

First Saturday Devotion … All are invited to join the Northshore Manresa Men’s Group on December 3rd, for First Saturday Devotion with Confessions beginning 7:45 a.m., Rosary at 8:00 a.m. and Mass at 8:30 a.m. Our Blessed Mother asked at Fatima for the First Saturday Devotion, saying it is a way of atoning for sins in the world, and promising that she would help at the hour of death anyone who keeps the devotion for five consecutive First Saturdays.

Rosary Sign-up for The Holy Souls in Purgatory

Would you or your family like to sign-up to pray a ro-sary for “The Holy Souls in Purgatory”? All parishioners are invited to pray a rosary for the Souls in Purgatory during the year. This rosary may be said for your dear departed family mem-bers, friends, or even those unknown to you, whom you wish to include in this Act of Charity. The sign-up sheet is in the back of church. Thank you for shar-ing in this special gift to all the “Holy Souls in Purgatory”

Catholic Campaign for Human Development

Thank you for your contributions to the collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD)! Your gener-ous gifts will help CCHD break the cycle of poverty in the United States through better education, improved housing, and economic development. Through CCHD and its beneficiaries, we demonstrate Catholic social teaching and carry out Jesus’ mission to “bring glad tidings to the poor...to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free” (Lk 4:18).

Rosary Sign-up for our Beloved Priests

Christ continues to love us and be present for us through the hands of His holy

priests! Fr. Otis and Fr. Bryan have offered their lives to God as a sacrifice for us, his people. They de-pend on our prayerful support to live faithfully their voca-tion in the midst of many challenges.

Please consider praying a Rosary, asking God for spe-cial graces for them to persevere in their priestly voca-tions. Sign-up sheets are in the back of Church. Thank You!

“The priesthood is the love of the heart of Jesus” ~ St. John Marie Vianney

It is one of longing, of yearning for a fulfillment that somehow lies beyond ourselves; for we long for the coming of the Lord. As you put your gift in the St. Vincent de Paul Poor Box, your heart will discover the true meaning of Christmas as you help those who are suffering and poor to long for the coming of the Lord.

“Your are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushelbasket, it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine be-fore others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father” -Matthew 5:14-16

From the St. Peter Catholic School weekly newsletter: November 16, 2016

Dear St. Peter Families,

A Night at the Oscars Green and Blue Gala 2016 was a wonderful and fun-filled success! It was a blast to be with so many joyful people throughout the night. We even had a few movie stars and su-perheroes make appearances. Before the excitement kicks in for the week off of school, I want to sincerely thank all the volunteers, sponsors, parents, teachers, and staff that made this past Gala a great evening to be together.

On Monday, we honored all of the veterans for our Veterans Day assembly. We were blessed with many parent, grandparent and family veterans at the assembly, and our Student Council did a great job recognizing all veterans who have served our country. We are incredibly grateful for their sacrifices to protect our country and freedom.

When we return from our break, we will be launching our Annual Fund Drive with the Archdiocesan #iGiveCatholic online giv-ing drive on Tuesday, November 29th. Last year, a total of 112 parishes, schools and ministries participated in the event, and $1,357,270.68 was raised. Out of 2867 donations, 111 were designated for our school, and another 22 gave to St. Peter Parish. This means that over 4.5% of all generous donors gave to St. Peter. Our families have been incredibly generous over recent years. #iGiveCatholic is designed to be an opportunity to support Catholic parishes, schools and ministries during the busiest shopping week of the year. Please consider donating during the #iGiveCatholic event for St. Peter Catholic School or emailing family or friends who would give to support our Catholic education.

I have very much enjoyed spending so much time with our families during our recent school events. Thank you all for the sacri-fices you make to provide a Catholic education to your children. I hope you have a safe, family-filled Thanksgiving week!

God alone, Michael Kraus
