haarslev industries manufactures processing
equipment to customers in the meat, pet food,
fish, oil, environmental and biofuel industries
world-wide. Plant durability, reliability and excel-
lent service are keywords for our supplies, wheth-
er it is a single piece of equipment or a complete
turnkey plant. our wide range of equipment, all
designed for specific applications, form an ideal
basis to design and optimise fish meal plants as
well as to upgrade existing plants.

although fish meal processing generally follows
the same principle, the process requirements vary
from one area to another and from one plant
to another. freshness of the catch, type of fish,
requirements for meal and oil quality and envi-
ronmental issues dictate the need for individual
plant solutions. We offer a full delivery pro-
gramme to meet such challenges.
fish meal plants from haarslev industries operate
all over the world. our delivery programme
ranges from small land-based or ship-based units
and up to the largest fish meal plants in the
world. our plants are known for maximum energy
efficiency, reliability, safety and compliance with
local environmental standards.

haarslev industries history within the fish meal and oil industry goes back many decades in time.
Thus we have gained vast experience and extensive know-how in fish meal processing that enables us to
provide a unique equipment programme for turning raw materials into high grade products
while taking energy effiency and the environmental protection into account.
We have in-house engineering and manufacturing facilities in Europe, south america and asia.
We are the preferred supplier in major fish meal producing countries and represented
world-wide through our own locally operating staff and agent network.

Whether a plant is processing whole fish or fish
by-products, the first step is the cooking process.
haarslev industries cookers are indirectly steam
heated. after cooking, the fish passes through a
strainer, and a large amount of liquid is drained
off before the solid material proceeds to mechani-
cal dewatering in the twin screw press.

high-grade fish meal sells at high market prices
because this type of meal has shown significant
advantages in aquaculture and animal breeding.
This is difficult to replace with proteins of other
origin. haarslev industries develops special cook-
ing and drying equipment, which limits the expo-
sure of the fish to high temperatures. The result is
a better preservation of essential amino acids and
that digestibility remains as high as possible. our
plant design focuses on optimum utilisation of
both raw materials and energy.

haarslev industries evaporators increase the plant
yields and reduce the overall energy consumption
while minimising the environmental impact.
Proteins in the liquid from the strainer system
and the twin screw press account for up to 30% of
the total fish meal yield. after separation of the
oil, the evaporator concentrates the stick water
making it possible to exploit the suspended and
dissolved proteins. By adding the evaporator con-
centrate to the fish meal you get an end product
containing all the nutrients available in the raw
fish. This maxi mises the plant yield and solves an
environmental challenge as well. The haarslev
evaporators can utilise waste heat from the steam
dryers and thereby make the overall fish meal
processing highly energy efficient.

haarslev industries also supplies compact fish meal
plants with all machines mounted as one unit.
This includes cooker, strainer, twin screw press and
dryer. separately, an oil recovery system and an
evaporator can be installed.
our compact plants are pre-assembled and ready
to install either on board floating factories or
ashore for treatment of by-products from fish
processing.

Mechanical dewatering with the twin screw press
is very cost efficient and adds energy savings to
the overall fish meal production. The twin screw
press has been optimised to ensure that the press
cake always has the best possible quality. The twin
screw press is of a very robust and sturdy design,
which ensures high cake dryness at low rotational
speed on the screws.
liquid from the strainer and the press is collected
for further separation into oil and stick water.
The latter is fed into an evaporator, which concen-
trates the remaining proteins by utilising waste
heat from steam dryers. The concentrate is now
added to the press cake and all material is dried.
This method ensures that almost all valuable pro-
teins are utilised and that meal yield and quality
increase.

our dryer programme for the fish meal industry
is the largest in the market. it ranges from a
number of different designs of contact disc dryers,
indirectly steam heated for both atmospheric
and vacuum operation, to a selection of indirectly
and directly heated hot-air dryers available for
the production of special meals with special
characteristics.
Moreover, haarslev industries has specialised
in combining different dryer models, which
enables the production of special meal qualities
at minimum costs. The complete haarslev
dryer programme is backed by comprehensive
engineering and innovative activities, allowing
us to provide tailor-made drying solutions for
special needs.
