Visitors & Age Policies

Fitness OrientationYWCA Central Carolinas offers complimentary orientation sessions on the use of equipment. Orientations are available to adult and minor members (ages 13-17) and adult guests.

Check the fitness events calendar for details. Sign-ups are not required.

Youth Fitness Orientation (Ages 13-17)

Youth members ages 13-17 must attend a fitness orientation to use the facility, including the pool, unsupervised. Otherwise, they must be accompanied by the accompanying adult member (ages 18 and up). Upon completion of the orientation, youth must wear an orange YWCA wristband while in the facility. The fee is $2 to replace the band. Check the fitness events calendar for details. Sign-ups are not required. For questions, contact Julianna Canfield at [email protected]

Fitness Center Policies & ProceduresMembers and guests work out at their own risk. YWCA Central Carolinas does not promote the use of thermal workout suits. Closed-toe sneakers required. Shirt or tank top required for both men and women. No profanity or illegal product marketing on clothing. Swimsuits or Triathlon suits are required when using the pool. Children not potty-trained are required to wear swim diapers and rubber pants.

Members and guests must wipe down all equipment after use. Please refrain from using cell phones in classes, pool, cardio and weight rooms. The sauna is for adults 18 and up. For safety purposes, sauna visits are limited to 10 minutes at a time. No immodest or revealing attire throughout the facility including the sauna.

No personal training or team trainings outside of YWCA and Industrial Strength programming is permitted on YWCA property.

Visitors:Members have unlimited guest passes. To activate 4-day guest passes, visitors must be 18 or older and show valid IDs.

• Minors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Members 13-17 must attend fitness orientation to use the center and pool unaccompanied.

• Adult visitors may bring up to three minor guests at a time. Each minor guest may visit 4 times at no charge with a guest pass.

• After 4-day guest passes are complete, the fee is $10/adults and $5/child.

• Fitness orientations are available for adult and minor members and adult guests. See event calendar for times and dates.

At YWCA

Child Care Room

YWCA Central Carolinas provides free child care for children 6-months to 12-years-old as part of all FAMILY MEMBERSHIPS. For other members and guests, the fee is $5 per child for two hours or $35 for a 10-visit punch card.

For the safety of your children, please note at any time childcare may reach capacity based upon age range and number of children. In that event, we apologize but we will not accept additional children in childcare. Spaces are reserved seasonally for YWCA Families Together and DYP Programs. During these seasons, YWCA Fitness Childcare will be double-staffed to best accommodate fitness members and program participants.

Beverly’s Gourmet Foods This well-known Charlotte food maker is based here at YWCA Central Carolinas. Beverly and her staff prepare vegetarian and vegan dishes filled with nutrients and flavor. Purchase items at the front desk using cash or check. Menu items change weekly. Inquire about private cooking classes. Industrial Strength

This certified personal training team, housed at the YWCA, listens first and then works with you to create an individualized program that integrates stretching, aerobic activity, weight training, core conditioning and nutrition. The team works one-on-one or in small groups, and offers personal training, a health coach, private Pilates studio and restorative massage therapy. At YWCA Pool

Monthly pool schedules are available at the front desk and on the website. Swimmers may need to share lanes during busy times. Lap lanes open at 5:45 a.m. Monday to Friday. Please note: on weekdays, the pool closes 1 hour prior to the fitness center closing. Pool temperatures range from 85 to 87 degrees.

• All persons must shower prior to entering the pool.

• Swimsuits or triathlon suits are required.

• Children who are not potty-trained are required to wear swim diapers and rubber pants.

• Floatation devices, including child arm bands, are not permitted.

• No personal training or team trainings outside of YWCA and Industrial Strength programming is permitted on YWCA property.

• Severe weather: In the event that lightning or thunder occur in the area, YWCA requires immediate closure of the pool. The pool will remain closed until 30 minutes past the last visible lightning strike or sound of thunder.

• In the event of bodily fluid contamination, the pool will be evacuated for cleaning and restoration, and may remain closed for an extended period.

Flick & Float Pool Movie Nights

YWCA Central Carolinas hosts Flick & Floats for children to watch movies while in the pool. We can also host Flick & Floats for your group, whether for children or adults. Check the website for event details and pricing.

Locker Policies Half and full-size lockers for daily use is free. Select half-size lockers may be rented for 3 or 6 months at $15/month. Limited number of rentable lockers available. Members and guests are responsible for securing personal items. Combination locks are required. In the event of losing a locker key, you may not have immediate access to your items. Visit the front desk for details.

Rental Space at the YWCA Groups may rent the Art Gallery, Multi-Purpose Room or Board Room for office and club meetings. YWCA Central Carolinas does not provide space for baby showers, birthday parties or reunions. Fitness members and non-profits (4013b) receive 50% off. Swim Lessons - Infants, Children and Adults Generations of Charlotteans learned to swim at YWCA Central Carolinas. Our instructors are certified and we always have a trained lifeguard on duty. Check the website for registration forms and information packets. Individual and Senior Memberships may utilize the member rate when registering family members for swim lessons and swim clinics.

Orange Crush Swim Team Our recreational swim team for young people ages 5 to 18 runs from January to March each year. We hold friendly competitions against other swim centers. Reach Jeff Nerret, Aquatics Manager, at [email protected] or Brian Coffey, Head Coach, at [email protected]

YDub Tri Club Join our seasonal Triathlon training group. Certified USAT coach Jody Frazier and a co-coach will lead you step-by-step through swimming, biking and running drills over a multi-week period. Try one-on-one training and group clinics as well!

Build friendships with your fellow athletes and feel the pride of crossing the finish line. The session includes a practice Triathlon, preview of the race course and lots of support from your fellow YDubbers. Check the website for training and fee information. Boot Camps & Workshops YWCA Central Carolinas offers seasonal boot camps and fitness workshops for a variety of fitness levels throughout the year. Check the website for dates and times. Members receive a discounted registration fee. Drop-in opportunities noted for some programs. See website for details.

DVD Library Don’t want to wait for a class? Select a workout DVD from the DVD Exercise Library. DVD players are located in the Studio and Spin Room. Check them out at the front desk or bring your own. Directions are posted by the TVs. The Spin Room also has a Smart TV which will allow you to access online classes.

Classes included in membership, unless otherwise noted. For safety reasons, class sizes are limited. Members may not enter class 10 minutes before or after the class start time. Members are not permitted to enter late to yoga classes. Classes requiring passes are labeled on the fitness schedule. *Check website for additional/changed classes.

Align & Refine Yoga (Beginner, low to medium intensity)

This Yoga class combines the precision of healthy alignment with mindful awareness of breath. An adjunct to faster-paced flow classes, expect meticulous instruction and longer holds to build strength and stamina, develop flexibility and promote balance from the inside out. Mats and blankets are available. Participants are encouraged to

bring their own.

Deep Stretch (Beginner, low to medium intensity)

You will be guided through a series of positions that will stretch and lengthen your body while releasing tension. Recharge your mind and body and feel renewed!

HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) (Beginner to intermediate, low, medium to high intensity)

Maximize your training time with a HIIT class. Perfect for a full body workout with a mix of strength and cardio exercises. You will utilize free weights, balls, gliders, your own body weight and more.

Move & Groove (Beginner, low intensity)

Sit or stand in this low class focusing on flexibility and strength utilizing bands, weights and more. This class is ideal for beginners, seniors and anyone recovering from injuries.

Quick Class (Beginner to intermediate, low to medium intensity)

Check out an array of “quick classes” that give you the option to sculpt, tone, or stretch for 15-minutes. It’s the perfect addition to round out your exercise plan.

Pilates/Pilates Fusion (Beginner to intermediate, low to medium intensity) These low-impact exercises focus on core strength, flexibility and long, lean muscles in the legs, abs, arms, hips and back. The class is ideal for controlling spinal and pelvic alignment, increasing proper oxygen flow to muscles and improving coordination and balance through breathing.

Cardio Strength (Beginner to advanced, low to high intensity) The perfect class for a full body workout with a mix og strength and cardio exercises. You will utilze free weights, balls, gliders, your own body weight and more.

Spin (Beginner, low to high intensity)Break a sweat in this class and control your own intensity level. Using a stationary bike, your body will experience a variety of speeds as well as endurance and strength building drills. Bring a towel and water bottle. Seat covers are optional but not provided. Class not in session? Find a class using the Smart TV!

Tabata (Beginner, low to high intensity)Perform one or more exercises at high-intensity for 20 seconds followed by 10 seconds of rest. Repeat eight times for a total training time of four minutes. Prepare to focus, sweat and feel major muscle burn.

Vinyasa Yoga (Beginner to advanced, medium to high intensity)Vinyasa means movements synchronized with breath. This class is suited for those knowledgeable in yoga terminology and positioning. The class uses straps, blocks and mats.

Yoga I (Beginner, low to medium intensity)Beginner and continuing students are invited to quiet the mind while practicing basic alignment, breath and yoga postures to stretch and strengthen the whole body. The class uses straps, blocks and blankets. Mats and blankets are available. Participants are encouraged to bring their own.

Yoga I and II (Beginner to intermediate, low to medium intensity)Practice meditation, dynamic stretching, floor stretching and flow and balance postures. Participants must be able to move from seated to standing positions comfortably. The class uses straps, blocks and blankets. Mats and blankets are available. Participants are encouraged to bring their own.

Yoga: Exploring the Details (Beginner, low to medium intensity) Through traditional yoga postures and other focus movements, this class leads students of various skill levels and traditions into a slow and mindful study of what makes a wide range of postures safe, stable and strengthening.

Work Out! Aquatic Classes

Aqua Arthritis Energizer (Beginner, low intensity) Exercise without putting excess strain on joints and muscles. Gain strength and flexibility with gentle activities in the water with guidance from an Arthritis Foundation certified instructor. Excellent for beginning or returning exercisers, and strengthening for pre-surgery and post-

surgery. Aqua Cardio (Shallow & Deep) (Beginner, low to high intensity) Develop strength, speed and endurance with aerobic techniques in both the shallow and deep ends of the pool. Start with a warm-up followed by cardio conditioning exercises, strength intervals and core training. The class uses Styrofoam dumbbells, noodles and kickboards. Work out at your own level. Water shoes are recommended.

Aqua Boxing (Beginner to intermediate, low to high intensity) Build cardio and strength through kick-boxing utilizing aquatic weights and body weight drills. Modifications will be offered empowering participants to work at their personal skill level.

Aqua Power (Shallow & Deep) (Beginner, low to high intensity) Get a full body workout with a variety of cardio and strength training exercises. The class includes some deep water. Work out at your own level.

Aqua Yoga (Beginner to intermediate, low intensity. Great for prenatal) Aqua Yoga takes the principles and movements of Yoga and adapts them to the water environment. Find the optimum stretch with the release of gravity.

Aqua Tai Chi Award winning martial artist Drew leads class goers through stretch and martial meditation using Tai Chi and Kung Fu fundamentals. Enjoy a relaxing atmosphere and calm the mind while keeping the body engaged through flowing movements in the shallow end of the pool.

Deep Water Work (Beginner, low to high intensity) The class begins with general aerobics to burn calories and build cardio health and endurance with a focus on core strength. The second phase targets and tones specific muscle groups. A relaxing set of stretches completes the workout.

Shallow Water Work (Beginner to intermediate, medium to high intensity) The class begins with a gentle warm-up that focuses on balance and posture. This class then transitions into cardiovascular conditioning with muscle training and stretching for flexibility. This class is designed for beginners but advanced students can work at their own levels.

Your Membership

Membership Rates

How to JoinStop by the front desk and complete a new member form. No joining fees! New members will receive a YWCA keycard to scan when entering the facility. Damaged cards will be replaced at no charge. Lost cards have a $5 replacement fee.

Payment OptionsPay through auto draft (provide voided check) or credit card. YWCA accepts Visa or Mastercard for automatic C.C. payments. Paid-in-full members receive two months free as a thank-you for your commitment. The annual paid-in-full membership expires one year from the joining date. The annual membership may not be cancelled prior to the expiration date except in cases of illness or relocation. You will be notified before the expiration date and given the option to renew. Members are responsible for ensuring that all payment information is up-to-date in our system. YWCA Central Carolinas provides one grace period prior to a $25 process fee.

Membership FreezeMembers may freeze membership for a minimum of one month and maximum of three-months. A 10-business-day notice is required prior to activating a Freeze. Account will automatically reactivate and monthly draft will restart at end of freeze period. YWCA Central Carolinas is not responsible for refunds.

Membership CancellationMembersjips require 10-day notice via completion of a Cancellation Form in addition to a $15 administration processing fee. Family memberships include all persons living in the same household. Paid in Full Mamberships are non-refundable excluding instances of relocation or illness.
