A chain analysis is a step-by-step description of theevents leading up to andfollowing a behavior

Page 40: Five Survival Skills - MACMH...The high conflict couple: A dialectical behavior therapy guide to finding peace, intimacy, and validation. Oakland, CA: New Harbinger Press. Linehan,

Chain analysis

What were the vulnerabilities?

What were the links the connected the chain(thoughts, feelings, actions)?

What exactly was the breaking point?

What was the behavior?

What were the consequences?

Where could have the chain of events beenchanged?

Define Behavior WHAT EXACTLY IS THE BEHAVIOR THAT I AM

ANALYZING?

WHAT THINGS IN MYSELF AND MY ENVIRONMENT MADEME VULNERABLE?

WHAT PROMPTING EVENT IN THE ENVIRONMENTSTARTED ME ON THE CHAIN TO MY BEHAVIOR?

WHAT ARE THE LINKS IN THE CHAIN BETWEEN THEPROMPTING EVENT AND THE BEHAVIOR?

WHAT EXACTLY WERE THE CONSEQUENCES IN THEENVIRONMENT

WAYS TO REDUCE MY VULNERABILITY IN THE FUTURE

WAYS TO PREVENT PROMPTING EVENT FROMHAPPENING AGAIN.
