    First Plan (1951-1956)

    Presented by first Indian PrimeMinister

    Jawaharlal Nehru.

    The planaddressed, mainly, theagrarian

    sectorincluding investment indamsand

    irrigation.

    The target growth was 2.1% of G.D.P. and the

    achievedgrowth was 3.6% of G.D.P.

    Dealt with hydro electric projects, steel mills

    and heavy industries. Emphasis on production ofcoal.

    Expenditure on Defense which is unproductivebut at thesame timevery essential.

    The time lagisdue to some political instabilitywhich will prevail at that period of time.
