Ancon’s origins date back to 1882 when steel fabrication company ‘George Clark’ was founded in Sheffield, England. The Ancon name came from ‘Ancon Stainless Steel Fixings’ which was founded in 1971 and merged with George Clark in 1993.

The company’s 108,000ft2 head office and main manufacturing site is still located in the city of Sheffield, world renowned as the traditional centre of the stainless steel industry. Today, Ancon has around 700 employees at three UK manufacturing sites and ten overseas operations located in New Zealand, Australia, United Arab Emirates, Germany, Switzerland and Austria. We are owned by CRH plc, a global building materials group.

Ancon’s UK sites are capable of producing a high volume of standard products on very short lead times, and bespoke products specifically engineered to meet individual project requirements.

On a daily basis, Ancon’s technical staff liaise with project teams throughout the world, advising on the most cost-effective and practical construction solutions.

The company’s impressive project portfolio includes:

• The Shard, UK

• Ferrari World, Abu Dhabi

• Brisbane Airport Link Road, Australia

• Thessaloniki Metro, Greece

• Stade de Suisse, Switzerland

Information for U-value CalculationsFor the accurate calculation of a wall’s U-value, it is important to use the correct information for the wall ties, rather than

allowing a program to apply a default value as this will over-estimate the effect of an Ancon Wall Tie. BS EN ISO 6946

permits the corrections due to wall ties (ΔUf) and air gaps between insulation boards etc to be omitted if the corrections

amount to less than 3% of the uncorrected U-value of the wall.

Ancon Teplo-L-Tie Basalt-Fibre/Stainless Steel Frame Cramp

This composite wall tie has been thermally modelled by a third party expert, allowing Ancon to provide accurate Chi values

for each product length. To understand the effect of these wall ties in a square metre, the Chi value (W/K) is multiplied by

the number of wall ties. The exceptional thermal efficiency of the Teplo range is such that it is unlikely ever to be taken into

account in U-value calculations as a thermal bridge.

Wall Tie TypesWall Ties are classified by the Types given in PD6697 (Types 1 to 4) and, specifically for timber frame construction, BS5268-

6.1:1996 (Types 5 to 7). These documents should be consulted for complete information on wall tie use, such as altitude and

wind speed restrictions, however, generally speaking, Type 1 ties are suitable for buildings of any height*, Type 2 and Type 3 ties

are suitable for buildings up to 15 metres, Type 4 ties are suitable for houses up to 10 metres and Type 6 ties are suitable

for timber frame developments up to 15 metres. *The original TeploTie is suitable for a maximum building height of 18 metres.

Wall Tie SpacingWall Tie Types 1 to 4 should be installed at a standard spacing of 2.5 per square metre (900mm horizontal x 450mm vertical

centres). Decreasing the centres can increase the performance e.g. Type 3 to Type 2. Contact Ancon for details. Type 6

timber-to-masonry wall ties should be installed at a minimum of 4.4 per square metre.

Ancon Teplo Basalt Fibre Wall TiesTeplo-BF, Teplo-BFR and TeploTie cavity wall ties have a thermal conductivity of less than 1.0W/mK and so are

excluded from U-value calculations to EN ISO 6946, irrespective of tie diameter.

Ancon Stainless Steel Wall TiesThe thermal conductivity and cross-sectional areas of Ancon’s stainless steel wall ties are shown below for use in U-value

calculation programs.

Wall Ties & Other Restraint Fixings Ancon manufactures wall ties in a variety of lengths and types for restraining brick, block and stone. These restraints can be designed to fix to concrete and structural steel as well as any type of masonry.

The standard wall tie range includes solutions for traditional brick-to-block, thin-joint blockwork, cellular clay blockwork, timber frame and light steel studding. Many products, including those from the Staifix range, can be delivered in 24 hours and are held in stock by distributors.

The range also includes Teplo basalt fibre wall ties, warm roof batten fixings and products for remedial work including a crack stitching kit.

Shear Load Connectors Installed at expansion and contraction joints, Ancon shear load connectors are more effective at both transferring load and accommodating movement than plain dowel bars. Each connector is a two-part assembly, comprising a sleeve and a dowel component. Products are available for joints in ground bearing and suspended slabs. Free design software is available.

The range includes a unique ‘Lockable Dowel’ designed for use at temporary movement joints in post-tensioned concrete frames.

Reinforcement Continuity Systems Ancon Eazistrip consists of pre-bent bars housed within a galvanised steel casing. Once installed, the protective cover is removed and the bars are straightened.

Ancon Starter Bars are supplied fixed to an Ancon coupler. Once cast in concrete, the coupler’s end cap is removed and a tapered thread continuation bar is installed with a calibrated torque wrench to complete the connection.

The latest addition to the range is the Ancon KSN Threaded Anchor, which minimises congestion in a wall. Connection to the anchor is with Bartec Plus parallel threaded bar.

Reinforcing Bar Couplers Mechanical couplers can be used to replace long bars and lapped joints, simplify design details, reduce rebar congestion and accelerate the speed of construction. The Ancon range includes parallel threaded, tapered threaded, mechanically bolted and grouted couplers. Couplers for stainless steel and cryogenic-grade rebars are also available.

Thermal Breaks These systems are used to minimise cold bridging at balcony locations where structural connections pass through the insulated building envelope. They provide a thermal break by inserting a material with a low thermal conductivity between elements with a higher conductivity and most also provide local insulation at the joint. As critical structural components, these Ancon insulated connectors also transfer moment, shear, tension and compression forces. Standard solutions are available for concrete-to-concrete, steel-to-concrete and steel-to-steel interfaces. Galvanised systems are also available.

Corner Guards Ancon Corner Guards protect exposed edges of columns and walls in areas of high traffic, such as car parks and warehouses. Where aesthetics are important, stainless steel corner guards can be supplied with a satin-polished surface finish.

Reinforcing Bar Ancon supplies stainless steel plain and ribbed bar direct from stock. Bars can be supplied cut to length, bent and threaded to suit any application.

Corner GuardsCorner Guards offer protection to exposed edges of columns and walls in areas of high traffic such as car parks, warehouses, hospitals etc.Ancon manufactures corner guards in

a standard length of 1250mm in either stainless steel, galvanised steel or untreated mild steel.Stainless steel provides the greatest corrosion resistance and, where aesthetics are important, can be supplied with a satin-polished

surface finish.Corner guards can be either cast-in to concrete or post-fixed to almost any material.
