IN THE NEWS

2 KoolSport Northern Counties East League 2008/09 Newsletter - Issue 4 - 29th September, 2008

Eagles Hunt For New Boss (Source: Eccleshill United) Mick Watson and Andy Patterson have

left Eccleshill United after the Eagles dropped to the bottom of the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division.

Following their 6-0 defeat at home to Arnold Town on the 16th of September, the club committee met with the management duo.

And, after a brief discussion, all parties agreed that they and the club would part company by mutual consent.

The result saw Eccleshill United still without a point, having conceded 38 goals in only eight matches played.

The club would like to place on record their thanks to both Mick and Andy for all their hard work on behalf of the club since taking over before the start of the 2007/08 season.

Club Secretary Paul Jarvis said: "Mick and Andy both worked extremely hard under difficult circumstances for Eccleshill United and we thank them for that.

"Unfortunately, the results this season have not been acceptable. Mick and Andy both knew that.

"We wish both Mick and Andy all the very best in their future endeavours."

Club Captain Stuart Waite is in caretaker charge whilst the club hopes to have a new manager in charge by the end of the month.

Anyone wishing to apply for the post of manager should forward a current CV in the first instance to Paul Jarvis (Football Secretary), Eccleshill United Football Club, 67 Wrose Road, Swain House, Bradford. BD2 1LN or by email to [email protected].

Ludlam And Hird Leave Staveley (Source: Staveley Miners Welfare) Staveley Miners Welfare and the

management team of Steve Ludlam and Shaun Hird have parted company.

It follows last Tuesday night's 2-0 defeat at home to Hemsworth Miners Welfare.

That made it seven defeats in eight games for the Inkersall Road side and left them in fifteenth place in Division One.

The club wish to place on record their thanks to both Steve and Shaun for their efforts since being appointed and wish them well for the future.

The club's members will be meeting to discuss the vacancies in due course but, in the meantime, the reserves and U19 managers Mick Eborall and Matt Tyers will be taking charge of first team duties.

Seadogs Vote Emley As Best Away Day (Source: Scarborough Athletic) The Scarborough Athletic Fanzine,

'Abandon Chip!', have awarded AFC Emley as the 'Best Away Day of the Season' for the 2007/08 campaign.

Every away game Scarborough Athletic participated in was given an overall mark out of 100 for several different categories, such as the ground, weather, food etc.

AFC Emley, who the Seadogs beat 3-2 at the Welfare Ground on 15th September 2007, came out on top with a score of 80, beating everyone else to the title.

Fanzine editor Matt Lawson, who has produced the fanzine since April 2006, presented the award to the Emley captain before the league match between the two sides at Queensgate on 30th August.

Lawson, 21, said the following of the award: "It was a great pleasure to present the trophy to AFC Emley.

"At Scarborough Athletic, we are extremely grateful for the warm welcome that our supporters receive at the majority of grounds we visit.

"It must be intimidating for clubs who have a more modest fanbase to have a couple of hundred Seadogs turn up, but we've been welcomed with open arms.

"We hope that away supporters feel as welcome at Queensgate when they visit."

Issue 11 of the fanzine is due out on October 14th at Boro's home game with Tadcaster Albion. Anyone wishing to purchase a copy can contact Matt at [email protected].

Sportsman's Dinner At Nostell (Source: Nostell Miners Welfare) A Sportsman's Dinner takes place later

this year to raise funds for Premier Division side, Nostell Miners Welfare.

Former Leeds United and Everton striker Duncan McKenzie is the guest speaker at the event that takes place on Thursday 20th November.

The evening will be compered by comedian Charlie Hale and there will also be a three-course sit down meal.

Tickets are £28 per person or £250 for a table of ten. To book, please contact the Crofton Community Centre on 01924 866010.

New Websites For Two KoolSport NCEL Clubs (Source: NCEL) A couple of NCEL sides have announced

new websites in the last fortnight.

Liversedge are the latest to join a growing band of clubs using the Pitchero website service at www.pitchero.com/ clubs/liversedge.

And, Hall Road Rangers have the latest information from Dene Park at www.hallroadrangers.com.

This season, an important milestone will be reached in the KoolSport Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

The 30,000th top flight goal is set to be scored in the 2008/09 campaign.

Since its inception in 1982 to the end of last season, the Premier Division saw the ball hit the back of the net 29,447 times.

That means that the 553rd goal that will be scored this season will break through the 30,000 barrier.

To celebrate this occasion, the League will be handing out a silver salver to the club and the player who hit the momentous goal.

Our sponsors, KoolSport, will also be providing an award.

More details will be announced as we get closer to the target.

A special goalometer will be put on the home page of the website to count down to the 30,000th goal whilst a running total will be on the front cover of the NCEL Newsletter.

Let the goal rush begin!

KoolSport Northern Counties East League 2008/09 Newsletter - Issue 4 - 29th September, 2008 13

For all the latest match reviews throughout the season, go to

www.ncel.org.uk MATCH REVIEW Brodsworth, despite their good result at the leaders, drop into the bottom four.

Mickleover Sports came from behind to win 4-1 at Hallam to move up into second place.

Scott Bates put the hosts in the lead after three minutes before Ricky Law levelled just seven minutes later.

Karl Ashton then scored two and Kieran O'Connell completed the scoring as Sports dominated the second period.

Dinnington Town climb to third after their 3-0 win at home to next-to-bottom Lincoln Moorlands Railway.

Ben Rosser and Danny Reet had them two-up by the break before Louis Axcell added the third with five minutes remaining.

Railway are still searching for their first points of the season alongside Eccleshill United and Shirebrook Town.

Eccleshill were 2-0 up at Bridlington Town before the home side won 5-2 to climb into fifth.

An Adam Mountford own goal on 13 minutes was unlucky for the Seasiders and Andy Philp then seemingly put the Eagles on their way.

But, Chibuzor Chilaka and Ashley Dexter had the scores level by the half-hour and Alex Rhodes, Ashley Allanson and Tom Fleming made sure of the win after the interval.

Shirebrook's game at Thackley did not kick off until 4.15pm because the Langwith Road side got stuck in traffic following a serious accident on the M62.

And, it was the home side who were quickest out of the traps with Chris Coy opening the scoring on nine minutes.

Kyle Shah added a second on 41 minutes before Coy got his second and Thackley's third just after the break.

But, Shirebrook threatened a revival in the last ten minutes with goals from Mitchell Slawson, who signed from Teversal in midweek, and Kieren Watson.

However, it was too little too late for Tony Maggs' side.

The two unbeaten sides in the Premier Division preserved their records as Pickering Town and Arnold Town played out a 1-1 draw.

Liam Salt put the home side ahead on 29 minutes but Craig Mitchell levelled for Arnold early in the second period.

Elsewhere, Parkgate are up to seventh after a 4-2 win at home to Maltby Main whilst Selby Town won by the same scoreline at Hall Road Rangers.

And, Nostell Miners Welfare beat hosts Armthorpe Welfare 2-0 with goals from Craig Stephens and Dave Watts.

Scarborough Athletic returned to the top of Division One with a 3-1 win at Bottesford Town.

The hosts had taken the lead through Danny Hope but a Scott Phillips brace and one from Dave Thompson gave the visitors a deserved victory.

204 were there which was the biggest League attendance of the day and three more than at the side the Seadogs replaced at the top, Hemsworth Miners Welfare, who were beaten 1-0 by AFC Emley.

Andy Farrell got the vital strike on 35 minutes, moving Emley up into eighth.

Pontefract Collieries remain third after a 3-2 win at Leeds Carnegie who drop to fifth.

Askern Villa's 5-2 victory at Brighouse Town moved them up into sixth.

Michael Evans, Daniel Ferguson and Graeme Severn had them three-up by the break.

Daniel Bentley brought Brighouse back into it on 54 but Askern's three-goal cushion was quickly restored with Ferguson's second.

Scott Swann made it three goals in five minutes to make it 2-4 before Ferguson claimed his hat-trick with six minutes remaining.

Lee Gregory also took home the matchball in Staveley Miners Welfare's 3-0 home win over Teversal.

Grimsby Borough won 2-0 at home to Rainworth Miners Welfare and Rossington Main were victorious by the same scoreline over visitors Yorkshire Amateur.

Barton Town Old Boys picked up an excellent 3-0 win at Tadcaster Albion and Appleby Frodingham won 3-2 at Glasshoughton Welfare with a last minute goal from Jonathan Nicholls.

MATCH REVIEW Parkgate, meanwhile, are the first team to book their place in the Quarter-Finals of the Presidents Cup.

They beat visitors Leeds Carnegie 4-1 with a hat-trick from Mark Caine, taking his tally in all competitions to ten goals.

He struck twice to give them a comfortable lead by half- time before Glyn Cotton added a third on 57 minutes.

Simon Collins gave Carnegie some hope as he found the net nine minutes later but Caine made utterly sure of the win with three minutes remaining.

Arnold Town climb up to second in the Premier Division after beating the side who held that position, Mickleover Sports, 4-0.

With Arnold's Eagle Valley Stadium yet to be completed, the match was played at Gedling Town and the Eagles will want to play their in the future after this result.

Tian Walton had them two-up by 23 minutes before a Jack Coulson own goal extended their lead just prior to the break.

Chris Hudson's 65th-minute strike completed the convincing victory.

Arnold are looking on fire up front as they have now scored sixteen goals in their last three matches.

Hemsworth Miners Welfare are the new leaders of Division One after their 2-0 victory at Staveley Miners Welfare.

Damion Liddle's double midway through the second half gave them the win.

Staveley, who have lost six of their last seven games and are now fifteenth in the table, parted company with their management duo, Steve Ludlam and Shaun Hird, after this defeat.

A 3-1 win for Pontefract Collieries at home to Grimsby Borough sees them climb to third in the table.

Ben Gilbert struck twice whilst Tom Heaton found his own net for Ponte's third, Tom Hardy got an injury-time consolation for the visitors.

Worsbrough Bridge Athletic are now seventh after a 2-1 win at bottom side, Glasshoughton Welfare.

Lee Garside put Athletic ahead early in the second period

and he doubled their lead on 72 minutes before a Paul Arkle penalty two minutes from time gave Welfare a little hope, but they couldn't make a full comeback.

Appleby Frodingham's first home game of the season saw them 4-0 winners against Tadcaster Albion and moved them to fourteenth in the table.

Two each for Callum Dransfield and Ryan Hibbard made sure of the victory.

NCEL Match Review #15 - 28th September, 2008 The KoolSport Northern Counties East League is pinning its hopes on Winterton Rangers as the club aim to become our only side in the Third Qualifying Round of the FA Cup.

They will need to navigate a replay, however, on Wednesday night after being held to a 1-1 draw at home to Newcastle Benfield on Saturday.

And, it was agonising for the West Street side as they were denied by a last minute equaliser from Steven Young.

Andy Holt had given Winterton the lead just after the half- hour mark.

The NCEL's only other representative in the Second Qualifying Round, Long Eaton United, bowed out with a 5-1 defeat at Rugby Town.

Scott Musgrove gave Rugby a first-half lead and that is how it stayed until the last twenty-five minutes when the goals started to rain in.

David Kolandinski struck twice before Adam Newton scored for Long Eaton on 73 minutes.

Ian King and Matt Gearing completed the victory for the Southern League side in the last ten minutes.

In the Premier Division, Liversedge's lead at the top of the table has been cut to three points after they were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Brodsworth Miners Welfare.

And, they had to come from two down as Darren Fell and Liam Wilkin scored for the visitors in the opening 25 minutes.

However, James Flowers' 38th minute strike and Jermaine Moyce's goal early in the second period saw them pick up the point.

For all the latest match reviews throughout the season, go to

www.ncel.org.uk MATCH REVIEW minutes before Lincoln Donaldson forced extra time with a last minute equaliser.

Ross Daley then put Thackley ahead for the first time in the first period before Fox grabbed his second to make it 4-4.

But, Martin Brissett grabbed the dramatic winner in the 109th minute to send the NCEL side through.

There was extra-time joy as well for Tadcaster Albion whose 93rd minute strike from Brad Dowling saw them progress 2- 1 at Hebburn Town.

A Martin Carruthers hat-trick helped Arnold Town to the biggest away win of the day with a 6-2 victory at Blaby & Whetstone Athletic.

And, Selby Town were 5-1 winners at home to Seaham Red Star thanks to a Bruno Holden triple salvo, one from the penalty spot, and a Sean Gorman brace.

Four more sides tasted victory on their travels.

Rainworth Miners Welfare finally got their First Round Qualifying tie at Dudley Sports played with Mark Hales' 77th-minute penalty getting them a 1-0 win at Dudley Sports.

Their Nottinghamshire rivals, Teversal, won 3-1 at Bardon Hill Sports with first-half goals from Andy Woodcock, Rob Orton and Michael Lyall.

And, Long Eaton United progress by the same scoreline at Bewdley Town as Alex Steadman, Kelvin Mushambi and Paul Gamble all struck for the comfortable victory.

Scarborough Athletic's first ever FA Vase game ended with a 3-2 win at Birtley Town.

James Tevendale's vital goal three minutes from time saw Hallam go through with a 3-2 win at home to Winsford United.

And, Paul Bedford also found the net late on for Nostell Miners Welfare in a 2-1 victory over visitors Poulton Victoria.

Lee Holmes struck twice, one a penalty, to see Rossington Main through against Daisy Hill, 2-0.

Leeds Carnegie also enjoyed their afternoon as Scott McGrory and Andy Cooper gave them a two-goal cushion by half-time at home to Brandon United before McGrory added a third and confirmed the victory.

And, Brodsworth Welfare also won 3-0 against visitors Ashton Town.

Unfortunately, the FA Vase is over for AFC Emley, Armthorpe Welfare, Barton Town Old Boys, Dinnington Town, Eccleshill United, Hall Road Rangers, Lincoln Moorlands Railway, Maltby Main, Mickleover Sports, Parkgate, Worsbrough Bridge Athletic and Yorkshire Amateur.

The final League Cup First Round tie was played with Bottesford Town cantering through with a 5-1 victory over Glasshoughton Welfare.

But, the home side had to come from behind after Darrell Jenkinson gave Welfare a 33rd minute lead.

Phil Jackman and Carl Derbyshire had them ahead by half- time before Danny Brooks struck twice and John Baross also found the net as the game became increasingly one-sided as it went along.

Liversedge are now five points clear at the top of the Premier Division after a 2-1 win at home to Bridlington Town who dropped their first points of the season.

Stephen Hollingworth put Sedge ahead on the quarter-hour before Chibuzor Chilaka levelled just prior to half-time.

Luke Sherman, however, got the winner on 75 minutes.

Pickering Town move up to fourth after a 1-1 draw at home to defending champions, Winterton Rangers who are now eleventh.

Greg Archer had the visitors ahead on 43 minutes but Liam Salt claimed a point on the hour mark.

In Division One, Graham Phillips' eighth minute goal has moved Hemsworth Miners Welfare up to second after their 1-0 win at home to Brighouse Town.

And, Askern Villa were 2-0 winners over visitors Grimsby Borough.

NCEL Match Review #14 - 25th September, 2008 A brace from Danny Naylor made Rainworth Miners Welfare the sixteenth KoolSport NCEL side to be playing in the First Round of the FA Vase.

His goals, in the 20th and 70th minute, claimed a 2-0 win at home to Walsall Wood on Tuesday night in the Second Round of Qualifying.

MATCH REVIEW NCEL Match Review #12 - 18th September, 2008 There was FA Cup heartbreak for all three KoolSport NCEL sides who were in action in the competition in midweek.

Despite having home advantage, Selby Town, Bridlington Town and Rainworth Miners Welfare all bowed out.

Selby's rearranged game with Guiseley ended in a 4-0 defeat whilst the other two were beaten in replays.

Bridlington took the lead against Newcastle Benfield through Phil Harrison on 58 minutes but the visitors soon levelled through Scott Marshall and Paul Buzzeo grabbed the winner with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining.

And, Rainworth lost 3-1 to Stourbridge with all the goals coming in the first half.

Lee Wilkinson had brought them back level on 25 minutes after an early opener from Nathan Bennett but Ryan Mahon and then James Dyson from the penalty spot made it a night of frustration for Rudy Funk's side.

In the Premier Division, leaders Liversedge were beaten 3-1 at Mickleover Sports who move into second with a 100% record so far from their five games.

The match was goalless going into the last quarter before Ricky Law and then a brace from Dave Middleditch put the hosts in command, Luke Sherman got a late consolation for Sedge.

Pickering Town are now fifth and are still unbeaten after their win by the same scoreline at home to Armthorpe Welfare.

Again, all the goals came in the last 22 minutes but it was Welfare who took the lead through Henry Sibenge.

Rob Eeles levelled for the Pikes before Ricky Greening put them in the lead on 75 minutes and then, four minutes later, a Ricky Sharp own goal sealed the points.

And, Eccleshill United have dropped to the bottom of the table after a 6-0 pummelling at home to Arnold Town who are now ninth.

A Craig Mitchell hat-trick plus a double from Nick Hall and one from David Wilkins made it a miserable night for the home side in the battle of the League's two Eagles.

It means that Eccleshill have conceded 34 goals in 7 league

games and management duo Mick Watson and Andy Patterson have since left the club.

There are happier times for Scarborough Athletic who remain top of Division One after a 2-0 win at bottom side Glasshoughton Welfare.

A Ryan Blott goal on 57 minutes and a Scott Phillips penalty claimed the win against a Welfare side that showed more resilience under new boss, Wayne Day.

Leeds Carnegie climb to second as Alex Smith's goal ten minutes from time snatched them a 1-0 victory at Yorkshire Amateur.

First half goals from Nathan White and Mark Anderson moved Barton Town Old Boys up to fourth after their 2-1 win over visitors Brighouse Town.

Teversal climbed to fifth as Jamie Smith and Michael Lyall found the net in their 2-0 win at home to Rossington Main, ahead on goal difference of Pontefract Collieries who beat Bottesford Town 2-1 at the K Profiles Stadium.

Michael Long and Dean Helliwell gave them a two-goal cushion by the break before Phil Jackman pulled one back early in the second period.

Meanwhile, the Presidents Cup First Round match between Hall Road Rangers and Staveley Miners Welfare was abandoned after 58 minutes.

The start of the game had been delayed due to floodlight problems and, when concerns grew in the second half about the safety of the generator, it was decided that the game could not continue.

NCEL Match Review #13 - 21st September, 2008 Thirteen KoolSport NCEL sides progressed in a busy day of FA Vase action on Saturday.

The most thrilling victory came for Thackley who beat hosts Thornaby 5-4 in extra time.

Paul Vickers had put the home side ahead on 44 minutes before the goals rained in during the second half.

Dean Fox doubled Thornaby's advantage on 52 before Thackley came back level within four minutes via a Gary Cotton penalty and a Craig McGuiness strike.

The hosts regained their lead through Thomas Burke on 72
