Page 1 FJKF President’s Report Hi Everyone, Well here we are just about to start another year for the Hills Camera Club. And what a big one we’re heading toward!! Our first night for the year is on Tuesday 30 January and is a special presentation by the Sydney Stereo Camera Club. Images from their International and National competition collection will be shown. Be ready to be amazed and delighted with this presentation. After coffee, a discussion and Q&A session will be held to allow you to find out how 3D images are captured and how you can do it for yourself. Be early. As a snippet of things to come, our Program Organiser, Ron Quester (with some assistance from Vice President Phil Brown) has organized some fantastic lecturers for the lecture program. First up on Tuesday 6 February is Grenville Turner, a landscape photographer for over 30 years. His saying is "The measure of a photographer is the ability to adapt to life's timeless landscape while challenging willing minds". He has been haunting the northern region of NSW for over 20 years, revealing the oft-missed gems of the landscape, verdant valleys, beautiful beaches, charming villages, remote rainforests, and craggy escarpments. A must to come along and learn how to do it. On Tuesday 6 March we have David Oliver, winner of the prestigious John Whitfield King Award and multiple winner of the Wedding Photographer of the Year award. He turns his focus on wedding, portraiture and landscape photography. He is devoted to capturing those spontaneous, once in a lifetime moments that are treasured for posterity. You will think - "why didn't I think of that....." Just a sample of the quality to come. This year we have made a conscious decision to integrate the lectures, workshops outings and competitions to give maximum benefit to club members. So, wherever possible, you will be able to attend a (say) landscape lecture, a workshop on landscape photography, an outing to take photos and be able to enter your photos in the set subject the following month. This has meant moving out meeting nights to the 1 st , 2 nd and 4 th Tuesdays in the month with the Management Committee meeting on the 3 rd Tuesday. Our Workshop program, run by Keith Gillard, provides hands on Q&A sessions for beginners and advanced photographers on the set subjects in the Point Score Competition together with PhotoShop tips and tricks each time. Want to know more about photography in a non-challenging way of learning? Then come to the workshops. Also following on from the success of our first “Getting to know your Camera” day held last year, we will be running these regularly throughout 2007. Watch the club calendar for details. Remember, to assist those members that can’t stay late, we are starting now at 7:45 pm sharp. Finally, there are many people to thank for the (mostly) smooth running of the club. One that’s not even a member is Keith Gillard’s daughter, Jade Gillard. Jade has spent many an hour designing our membership and competition records database. Thanks Jade. Thanks also to our Treasurer Mal Hobson who has volunteered to be the “Database Holder” for the club. This is a not so glamorous side of the organization but a very important one for accurate record keeping. Thanks also to Maria Ericksen and Neil Chandler for their efforts for the club recently. Both have had to stand down from their commitments with the club due to work commitments. Thanks also to Val Fenbow for stepping in to handle the organizing of the Australia Day Photography. Well done Val. And a BIG thanks to our Secretary Mary Spence. Without you we all would drop the ball. GREAT JOB !! FJKF We have just been invited by the Cumberland Bird Observers Club to join them on an outing to photograph birds in Centennial Park in April. Should be interesting. Watch for details in the Social Committee report. This year sees us hosting the Interclub competition with our neighboring clubs of Blacktown and Parramatta. Should be a good contest. I could go on and on …. (I suppose you think I already have) but I hope you can get the drift …. This is going to be a FANTASTIC YEAR. Regards, Bob Cook President

COMPETITION CO-ORDINATORS REPORT

Hello Everyone, Congratulations again to everyone on their results in last year’s competitions, also thanks to everyone that helped make them a success. Well done to all those people who have been moved into A Grade for this year’s competitions. I’m sure it will keep the existing A Graders on their toes. This year there is another exciting program of competitions planned. Remember that this year there will be a new category for Digital Images. Please remember that on February 6th, there will be a vote held on a special resolution to adopt a new set of competition rules. If you are not able to be at the meeting, you are able to vote via proxy. In order for the new rules adopted we need a majority of 75% or more, from a minimum of 25% of eligible voters in the club. If you need any more information please email me on [email protected] This year meetings start at 7:45pm, so please come early to lodge your entries on the competition nights. Our first competition this year is on February 27th, there will be an Open Subject and a Set Subject of Whoosh, “The dominant feature of the image must include the perception of movement”. Remember that if you are entering the Slides or Digital Image categories the entries need to be in by February 14th. This year will be full of exciting events including FCC and Interclub competitions. With these competitions comes plenty of work for the Competition Committee. If anyone has some free time, and the inclination, we would be grateful to anyone prepared to lend a hand. Please email or see me at a meeting. I look forward to seeing a lot of excellent entries in this years competitions. Regards, Simon For the Competition Committee.
