The Flamenco art form, through its purity, rhythms and intensity strikes a visceral chord for audiences of all ages, all cultures and with all degrees of experience with the arts.

Carlota Santana co-founded the company in 1983 with the mission of using Flamenco not only as an art form but as a way to build bridges between cultures. Experiencing a FLAMENCO VIVO CARLOTA SANTANA performance, the audience clearly feels the diverse influences which have shaped this exuberant form of dance and music, including contributions from Gypsy, Judaic, Arabic, Spanish and Latino culture.

Carlota Santana has been designated "The Keeper Of Flamenco" by Dance Magazine and received La Cruz De la Orden al Merito Civil from the Government of Spain in recognition of her commitment to creating new works and developing young artists. Recent creations include Burlador, based on the story of Don Juan, Bailes de Ida y Vuelta, Flamenco's journey through Latin America; and the flamenco story-ballet Federico, a celebration of the life of Federico Garcia Lorca, all performed to great acclaim at the Joyce Theater in New York City and on tour across the country. The company regularly performs its popular traditional Flamenco Puro.

The company tours extensively throughout the United States with 6-12 dancers and musicians and has performed to sold-out houses at venues such as the Joyce Theater, the New Victory Theatre, Centennial Hall at the University of Arizona, Notre Dame’s DeBartolo Center, the Manship Theater, The Smithsonian, Duke University, Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. FLAMENCO VIVO CARLOTA SANTANA is sought after for its extensive residency and arts-in-education programs, including immensely popular master classes which incorporate the culture and history of Flamenco.
