Greetings!
Springtime is here and we are in full bloom! Currently, the conference leadership team has been working hard to put the finishing touches on the 2017 Florida Section Conference, Reach for the Stars: Innovations in Maternal Newborn Nursing! Please make plans to join us for a time of learning from spectacular speakers and some fun in the sun! You work hard all year promoting the health of women and newborns in Florida, and it is our desire that this event will provide you with time to relax and rejuvenate as well as time to learn and re-fuel for the work
that awaits you upon your return!!!
This year we have 2 pre-conference events. I’m thrilled to announce that we are hosting our 3rd Student Symposium. This event has been a catalyst for the growth of our student membership in Florida! Did you know that our student membership grew 2.8 times more in 2016 than in 2015? As a leadership team, we hope to continue to invest in nursing students and new graduate nurses! Will you help us by spreading the word to nursing students that you come across in your daily path? They can’t join us if they haven’t heard about us! Please invite them to the 2017 AWHON Florida Section Student Symposium today!
We are also thrilled that we have a 2 hour, hands-on photography workshop available as a preconference this year. Have you ever needed bereavement photography services, but it wasn’t available? This workshop is designed to help you fill that need for the family that has experienced such a great loss. There is limited seating, so please register early.
Our main conference event is filled with dynamic speakers that will empower you with the latest evidence to take back to your practice! We will kick-off the main conference event on Friday evening this year with the opening of the exhibit hall! And by popular demand, we are continuing the half-day sessions on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
We have included the full conference brochure at the end of the newsletter for your Continued...

The Lee Collier AWHONN Chapter met on April 24th for a Movie Night. We watched the movie Dark Side of the Full Moon and ended with a discussion of the movie and how postpartum depression and mood disorders affect women in our community. There were two mental health counselors who specialize in postpartum issues at the meeting and shared resources available for the women in our area. In addition we had one of the Lee Health Board of Directors attend our meeting to learn more about this important women's health issue. It was a great night of sharing good information!
