Happenings Gadarwara Revisited for the Opening of Osho Leela Ashram in Osho's Childhood Village can understand Herman Hesse's Siddhartha and his experience with the river", says Osho in one of his discourses, as he remembers childhood years in Gadarwara village, near Jabbalpur, Madhya Pradesh. "It happened with me: so much transpired, because slowly, the whole existence became a river to me. It lost its solidity; it became liquid, fluid. And I am immensely grateful to my father. He never taught me mathematics, language, grammar, geography, history. He was never much concerned about my education. He had ten children…and I had seen it happen many times: people would ask, 'In what class is your son studying?'and he would have to ask somebody because he would not know. He was never concerned with any other education. The only education that he gave to me was a communion with the river. He himself was deeply in love with the river. "My whole childhood was spent in a close love affair with the river. It was my daily routine to be with the river for at least five to eight hours. From three o'clock in the morning I would be with the river; the sky would be full of stars and the stars reflecting in the river. And it is a beautiful river; its water is so sweet that people have named it Shakkarshakkar means sugar. It is a beautiful phenomenon. "I have seen it in the darkness of the night with the stars, dancing its course towards the ocean. I have seen it with the early rising sun. I have seen it in the full moon. I have seen it with the sunset. I have seen it sitting by its bank alone or with friends, playing on the flute, dancing on its bank, meditating on its bank, rowing a boat in it or swimming across it. In the rains, in the winter, in the summer…. "Whenever you are in love with flowing things, moving things, you have a different vision of life. Modern man lives with asphalt roads, cement and concrete buildings. These are nouns, remember, these are not verbs. The skyscrapers don't go on growing; the road remains the same whether it is night or day, whether it is a full moon night or a night absolutely dark. It doesn't matter to the asphalt road, it does not matter to the cement and concrete buildings. "Man has created a world of nouns and he has become encaged in his own world. He has forgotten the world of the trees, the world of the rivers, the world of the mountains and the stars. There they don't know of any nouns, they have not heard about nouns; they know only verbs. Everything is a process. God is not a thing but a process." Welcome to Gadarwara! Gadarwara Revisited for the Opening of Osho

Leela Ashram in Osho's Childhood Village

can understand Herman Hesse's Siddhartha and

his experience with the river", says Osho in one of

his discourses, as he remembers childhood years

in Gadarwara village, near Jabbalpur, Madhya Pradesh.

"It happened with me: so much transpired, because

slowly, the whole existence became a river to me. It lost

its solidity; it became liquid, fluid. And I am immensely

grateful to my father. He never taught me mathematics,

language, grammar, geography, history. He was never

much concerned about my education. He had ten

children…and I had seen it happen many times: people

would ask, 'In what class is your son studying?'and he

would have to ask somebody because he would not

know. He was never concerned with any other

education. The only education that he gave to me was a

communion with the river. He himself was deeply in

love with the river.

"My whole childhood was spent in a close love

affair with the river. It was my daily routine to be with

the river for at least five to eight hours. From three

o'clock in the morning I would be with the river; the

sky would be full of stars and the stars reflecting in the

river. And it is a beautiful river; its water is so sweet

that people have named it Shakkarshakkar means

sugar. It is a beautiful phenomenon.

"I have seen it in the darkness of the night with the

stars, dancing its course towards the ocean. I have seen

it with the early rising sun. I have seen it in the full

moon. I have seen it with the sunset. I have seen it

sitting by its bank alone or with friends, playing on the

flute, dancing on its bank, meditating on its bank,

rowing a boat in it or swimming across it. In the rains,

in the winter, in the summer….

"Whenever you are in love with flowing things,

moving things, you have a different vision of life.

Modern man lives with asphalt roads, cement and

concrete buildings. These are nouns, remember, these

are not verbs. The skyscrapers don't go on growing; the

road remains the same whether it is night or day,

whether it is a full moon night or a night absolutely

dark. It doesn't matter to the asphalt road, it does not

matter to the cement and concrete buildings.

"Man has created a world of nouns and he has

become encaged in his own world. He has forgotten the

world of the trees, the world of the rivers, the world of

the mountains and the stars. There they don't know of

any nouns, they have not heard about nouns; they

know only verbs. Everything is a process. God is not a

TANTRAA Way of Living and Loving

sho has talked extensively about Tantra in his Book of Secrets, a best seller among

Osho books. But how do his disciples perceive these meditation techniques? And

what have been their experiences? A long time disciple, Ma Krishna Radha a.k.a.

Camilla Lugio’s Tantra: A Way of Living and Loving is an attempt to answer these

questions. This book was launched actor-politician Vinod Khanna along with Wisdom

Tree publisher Shobit Arya at Hotel Jaypee Vasant Continental in February 2005.

“My book is not a biographical one. I have just given a personal perspective to what I have

learnt and experienced in tantra and the lessons from my master. Tantra as an art means

complete acceptance. It teaches you to reach out and connect with your inner desires and

not be ashamed of them. All the answers that I was looking for were answered after

meeting Osho. He gave me this name and made me look at life in a very different and clear

way. I hope that his book will clear all misconceptions about tantra,” said the author.

Ma Radha’s book recounts her experiences as an Osho disciple. Born in Naples, the

author came to India in 1974 to find peace and enlightenment. For the next 16 years, she

worked with Osho. It was then that she became “the medium of his energy”, she says.

Radha has also worked in Osho Multiversity in Pune and held workshops on tantra.

Swami Vinod Bharti a.k.a Vinod Khanna, recalled how met Radha, the year the author

first came to the Osho commune. “I was not aware that Radha would write about tantra

when I first met her. She always seemed mesmerised with all the meditation. One can recollect so many interesting

moments spent with the great master. When I became Osho’s disciple, it was actually a big risk to my career as an actor

and public figure. But I have never regretted it. Some day, I wish that I would sit down and write a book on Osho myself”,

said Khanna. Well, what are we waiting for?
