Know-how that links everything together:IndustrialIT

For HART and PROFIBUS, DTMs (Device Type Managers) are available for diagnostic evaluations and configuration which also provide a user-friendly interface for all FDT (Field Device Tool)-Applications, such as, DSV401 (SMARTVISION) and process control systems with a FDT-Interface. ABB offers DTMs for all flowmeter technologies.

The DSV401 (SMART VISION) software can be used to configure and operate allinstruments, including those from other manufacturers. The DSV401 (SMARTVISION) can be utilized as a ”stand alone” device during start-up or in the plantas a ”system integrated Secondary Master”.

DD- and CFF-files are available for FOUNDATION Fieldbus devices to enable the data transfer between flowmeters and PCS.

IndustrialIT is the higher level concept, which on the one hand can be used tooptimize the data management in all user areas, and on the other hand, offers acertified, function proven interaction between all components.

In simple terms, the task of IndustrialIT is to provide the right data to the right

person at the right time in the right format at the right location.

This is accomplished by an information technology that links the entire measure-

ment value generation chain, from the field to the decision-making level.

ABB products, systems and service operate as a perfectly coordinated instrumentation system: startingwith the individual flowmeter up to large, complex systems. The IndustrialIT-Certificate stands for intero-perability of the products and systems, i.e., precise information about the process status is continuouslyavailable. The basis for the data interchange between the highest user levels down to the individual flow-meters is the Ethernet-Technology together with the communication options available in the flowmeters, which include HART, PROFIBUS and FOUNDATION Fieldbus. The data transfer is divided into the cyclical data transfer of the measurement values and the measurement status from the instruments and the acyclical data transfer of the detailed diagnostics or instrument configuration.

Know-how, which attracts:Electromagnetic Flowmeter

About 1832 Michael Faraday proposed using the principle of Electromagnetic

Induction for measuring flow velocity. His first experiments were attempts

to measure the velocity of the river Thames in England. Even though the

experiments resulted in failure, they are recognized as the first experiments

in electromagnetic flow measurements.

Whenever the flowrate of conductive liquids, slurries or sludges is to be measured, the ElectromagneticFlowmeters from ABB are in their element. They have been recognized for many decades among the most successful in the market place and find application in almost all branches of industry. A very large range of product lines and models, meeting practically all needs, cover just about everyapplication.

The most economical sensors for all applications: the FXE4000–Line.

Inexpensive, versatile and modular: that’s the basic concept of the ABBFXE4000-Line. Whether an all stainless steel design for hygienic or sterile appli-cations, an explosion-proof design for the chemical and process industries or a design with certified calibrations for water and waste water applications: themany design options offer solutions for every application. Here flexibility is paramount: all stainless-steel models are shipped with threaded adapters forconnection to any user's fittings, the standard flowmeter primaries are availablein a wafer design or with DIN, ANSI or JIS flanges. Ex- or non-Ex models areavailable in a compact design or with remote mounted converters. The con-verter has the same degree of flexibility and performance – up to six variablescan be displayed in multiplex operation almost simultaneously. The converteris configured from a clear text menu and all parameters and data are stored in an EEPROM.

Capacitive signalmeasurements

The highest performance under the most difficult conditions: the FXM2000–Line

Highest measurement accuracy (0.2% of rate), a wide range of sizes (DN1 to 2600 [1/25" to 102"]) and suitability for the most difficult measurementconditions characterize the instruments in this high-end line.

The FXM2000–Line can also be installed where it is too hot for other electromagnetic flowmeters: the high temperature design can be used up to 180 °C fluid temperature; or when two flow ranges,an integrated preset counter, a design for meteringfruit juices and non-homogeneous fluids are required.

A wide spectrum of liner and electrode materials:In the flanged designs, a choice can be made bet-ween PTFE, hard rubber, soft rubber and PFA liners. For hygienic applications a vacuum tight PFA liner isavailable. Stainless steel, Hastelloy, Titanium , Tantal-um or Platinum-Iridium are materials from which theelectrodes for the EMF instrument lines can be made.

Problems due to coatings on the pipe walls? For applications where the fluids tend to deposit aninsulating coating on the pipeline or could corrodethe metal electrodes, the FXM2000 (COPA-CM) witha capacitive electrode design can be installed. The signal electrodes are mounted behind the linerand do not come into direct contact with the fluid.

Two-wire flowmeter for industrial applications

The advantages of the 2-wire technology can berealized in an electromagnetic flowmeter with theFXT4000 (COPA-XT). In addition to a reduction ininstallation costs (the installation of a supply powercable at the meter site is no longer necessary) thepower costs are also reduced (max. 0.5 Watt powerconsumption). A 4…20 mA current output is incorporated in the FXT4000 which is also utilizedto power the flowmeter and to provide a scaledpulse output.

The reliable, accurate sensor for waste water: FXP4000 (PARTI-MAG II)

The FXP4000 (PARTI-MAG II) is the establishedelectromagnetic flowmeter system for full and par-tially filled pipelines. High accuracy, measurementswithout inverts, short in- and outlet sections andeasy operation are the key features of this system. Its technical superiority and accuracy have beenconfirmed by many years of successful use in partially filled pipes to measure waste water andcombined waste water discharges in municipal and industrial waste water treatment facilities, indisposal sites or for channel network management.

The high-performance sensor for water and waste water: AMAS (AquaMaster)

The AMAS (AquaMaster) is a specializedflowmeter for water and waste water.

It has an unsurpassed accuracy forlarge as well as very small flowrates.

It has been designed for the specialdemands of the water industry and is available in battery or line powered versions with an integrated or remotemounted converter.

Simple flow metering at a low price

The flowmeters of the FXL-Line (COPA-XL andMiniflow) are smaller, lighter and more compact. The low price, the easy installation and operationare additional compelling features.FXL5000 (Miniflow) is of particular interest, when a flowmeter is to be installed in existing plasticpipelines. With threaded adapters for plastic orcopper pipelines the installation is made in no time at all. The FXL-Line provides an alternative to the mechanical flowmeters, e.g., Rotary Vanemeters, and can be used as a flowrate monitor or to protect pumps if they run dry.

The flexible probe for potable water:APROBE (Aquaprobe)

The APROBE (Aquaprobe) is a stationary or por-table electromagnetic flow insertion probe. It isinstalled through a boss and does not require thatthe pipeline be disassembled. Exact flowrate mea-surements, even at low flows, monitoring for leaksin potable water networks or determining the flowdirection are not a problem with the APROBE–making it a cost effective and versatile alternativein potable water systems.

ABB offers high performance Vortex and Swirl flowmeters, which, as a result oftheir innovative DSP-Technology (Digital Signal Processing) are extremely reliable. The instruments are designed in 2-wire technology. When a p/T-compensation isrequired, the signals are combined in the FieldIT Measurement Computer FCU400(SensyCal). The converters which incorporate a current output and fieldbus datalink (HART, PROFIBUS PA or FOUNDATION Fieldbus) as well as a user configu-rable contact output, are available in explosion-proof designs: EEx ib/ia, EEx dund EEx n [L].

The temperature measurement (optional) is integrated directly in the flowmeterprimary and a remote mounted converter design round out the versatility of thisinstrument.

When a flowing fluid meets an obstruction, pressure variations are created in

the fluid, which cause eddies to shed at the obstruction. This phenomenon is

utilized in the Vortex and Swirl flowmeters. The eddies are formed in the fluid at

a geometrically defined obstruction (Vortex and Swirl bodies) whose frequency

is measured by a sensor. The flowrate of liquids, gases and steam is determined

precisely and reliably from this frequency measurement.

The correct one for tight conditions: Swirl Flowmeter

The Swirl Flowmeter FS4000 (TRIO-WIRL S) is defined by precise measure-ments in any installation orientation and requires the shortest inlet sections.Due to the spiral vanes in the entry body, the fluid is forced into a rotation and the frequency of the resulting secondary rotation is measured.

The clever one for difficult fluids: Vortex Flowmeter

The Vortex Flowmeter FV4000 (TRIO-WIRL V) operation is based on the Karman Vortex Street, in which, the shedding frequency of eddies in aflow stream after an obstruction is measured. Contamination or deposits have no effect on thesignal generation, because no holes or gaps arerequired for the eddy generation.

FCM2000

Its main features are a space-saving design, ruggedconstruction, insensitivity to vibration and pipestresses as well as economy and reliability. The FCM2000 is also available for use in hazardousareas.

The FCM2000 is available in a wide range of sizes,is easy to install and is self-draining. Thanks to its digital signal processor (DSP), the FCM2000 is versatile, reliable and has long-term stability – and thanks to its special manufacture, a veryadvantageous price.

A force to be reckoned with:Coriolis Mass Flowmeter

The rotation of the earth was first demonstrated in 1851 at the Pantheon

in Paris using a Foucault pendulum. The rotation of the earth gives rise

to a Coriolis force on a moving pendulum, which causes it to deflect.

ABB’s successful FCM2000 flowmeter operates using this principle.

The reliable sensor for all applications:FCM2000

The Coriolis Mass Flowmeter may be used to measure the flow of all liquids, slurries or pastes, since the measurement principle is independent of conductivity, temperature and density changes.

Competence that really takes off:Variable Area Flowmeters

When the upward and gravitational forces on a body are in equilibrium, it ‘floats’.

Just as the dandelion makes clever use of this phenomenon for spreading its

seeds, variable area flowmeters use this principle to measure flows effectively

and accurately.

Functional schematic of a metal tube-Variable Area Flowmeter

Proven and inexpensive – ABB Variable Area Flow-meters. For the measurement of gases, liquids andsteam at low flow rates, a large range of modelsassure that there is a suitable flowmeter for everyapplication. The series starts with the ”SNAP-IN”Purgemeter can be used to measure the low flowrates in bubbler applications or for laboratoryflow measurements.

It continues with an extensive selection of glasstube flowmeters and finishes with metal tube flow-meters – available as simple indicators or modelswith two-wire transmitters. Metal tube flowmetersare especially well suited for use with aggressive or opaque liquids and for steam measurements. As bypass flow indicators operating on the Prandlpitot tube principle, armored all metal purgemeters with a differential pressure regulator roundout the program.

The flowmeter features high accuracy, (0.2% of rate) over a wide application range. The system operates in very difficultoperating environments with the highest accuracy requirements.

The compact design protects against mechanical damage and assures longterm stability and interruption insensitive measurements. The TotalSonic can even be operated using solar batteries because its power requirements are minimal.

Wedgemaster

For measuring mass flow a combination of the multi-variable pressure converter 267CS and a pressuretransmitter is the correct choice. Based upon the specific measurement task, there are always suitableprimary devices available: orifices with corner, D and D/2 pressure taps, orifices with flange taps, small bore orifices (flange/corner taps), ISA-1932-Nozzles, long radius nozzlse, classical Venturi tubesand Venturi nozzles. In addition, pitot tube probes, V-Cones, Wedge-Elements as well as nozzle bridges.

The efficient sensor for non-homogeneous fluids:

The WEDGEMASTER is ideal for making measure-ments in fluids with a high proportion of air orfoam, abrasive characteristics, high viscosity and/or low-conductivity. The measurement utilizes adifferential pressure measurement and combinesthe structural advantages of the wedge element, which include low maintenance and an extremelylow pressure drop, with the precision of the high-performance and correction capabilities of the multi-variable pressure converter 267CS.

Expertise that makes a difference:Differential Pressure and Ultrasonic Flowmeters

A classical and proven method for measuring the flowrate of liquids, gases

or steam is to measuring the differential pressure created in a flowing fluid as

it flows through a reduction in the flow area.
