Q. What is Limeade and how are they involved in the new On Point for Health Wellness Program?

A. You may see or hear the name Limeade. Limeade is a third party vendor that will be providing the computer system that you log into for the new On Point for Health wellness program. Limeade will track what programs or challenges you participate in and keep track of your points over the year. Points can eventually be converted into reduction in your healthcare premiums and up to $100 in cash for you and your spouse/domestic partner.

Q. Can you briefly explain the new On Point for Health wellness program?A. There are three levels of this program:• Level1-HRA(healthriskassessment)andWellnessScreeningthroughtheAllenlabwill

get you discounts on your premiums and points to move to the next level

• Level2–Variouswellnesschallengesallowyou to rack up points to continue your premium discounts during the second half of the year

• Level3-Providesacashrewardofupto$100for you and for your spouse

Q. Do I have to enroll in the medical plan to participate in the On Point for Health wellness incentives?

A. Yes and No. If you are looking for the premium incentives you will need to be enrolled into one of the two medical plans. If you are interested in the $100 cash payout as part of the plan you do not need to be in the medical plan but would have to complete the various programs and challenges, including theHRAandBiometricscreeningtogainthepoints needed for the $100 payout.

Q. I am not on the healthcare plan; can I still participate in the Wellness program and qualify for the cash incentive?

A. Yes,butyouwillhavetotaketheHRAandhave your blood drawn for the Wellness screening. In addition you will need to accumulate enough points to get to and completeLevel3intheprogramtobeeligiblefor the $100 payment.

If you live in Waterloo, I am sure you’ve visited Allen Hospital at some point in time in your life or while one of your loved ones has been a patient here. Have you stopped and taken a moment to reflect on what an amazing effort it takes on the part of so many Allen associates to keep our hospital organized, maintained and running efficiently? This week we recognize the important role that facility managers, engineers and techs play in ensuring a safe and functional environment for all patients, visitors and staff.

Plant services has 22 employees including management and administrative support. The department has licensed professionals skilled in plumbing, electrical and HVAC.Theyalsohavejourneymanpainters,carpentersandmulti-skilledmaintenancetechs.PlantServicestechsareresponsibleforamajorityofmanybehindthe scenes activities that contribute to the upkeep and flow of everyday hospital life here at Allen Hospital. Plant Services also manages environmental safety, emergency management, construction management, as well as assisting with property management.

From the boilers and chillers that keep our patients warm or cool, to the remotes that change our patients’ TVchannelsormajormilliondollarexpansionprojectsto increase our hospital services and availability, our Plant Services department strives to respond to and

resolve, prevent and maintain more than 850,000 square feet of hospital space and all of the equipment within it. Plant Services has responded to and completed 4,121 work orderrequestsand4,071preventativemaintenanceworkorders since the beginning of this year as well as working onimplementinganewinnovativeweb-linkfeaturetothehospitals request for maintenance work order system that will potentially help with the work order communication chain throughout the process.

Whether our maintenance techs are changing light bulbs, fixing water leaks, moving furniture or completing preventativemaintenanceonmajorlifesafetyequipment,they are always on the go, trying to sustain the upkeep of the hospital, college and surrounding outside clinics and striving to achieve the greatest customer/patient satisfaction possible. ICD-10 Update:IfyouarenotfamiliarwithICD-10,theimportantthingtoknowisthatmosthealthcareorganizationsintheU.S.willsoonberequiredtoreplacethe30yearoldICD-9codesetusedtoreportmedicaldiagnosesandprocedures.TheU.S.isvirtuallytheonlyindustrialnationthathasnotyetupgradedtoICD-10.Thereareapproximately68,000codesintheICD-10codesetcomparedtothe13,000codesintheICD-9set.

ReplacingICD-9withICD-10isexpectedtoprovidehigher-qualityinformationformeasuringhealthcareservicequality,safety, and efficacy. This will in turn provide better data for quality management, clinical research and analysis, and operational reporting and payment management.

Our physicians and coding professionals will see the most significant changes but because of the many uses of coded data and ICD codes, almost everyone in the organization may be affected. Teams comprised of representatives from every region, including physician, hospital, clinic, and home care staff, are working to ensure a smooth transition.

Currently, work is focused in readying all systems for the new codes and coding scheme. Training plans are also being developed.TargetedtrainingstaffwillreceiveICD-10approved“trainthetrainer”traininginthefourthquarterof2013,withbroader audiences beginning training in early 2014. The training model is being designed to make efficient use of physician and stafftime.Onlinelearningcoursesandface-to-faceworkshopsalongwithquestionandanswersessionswillbeutilized.

Morecommunicationswillfollowastimelinesandtrainingdetailsarefinalized.Formorebackgroundontheproject,includingcommitteeandsiterepresentation,guidingprinciples,currentprojecttimelineandmorepleasevisittheICD-10InfoHub.

National Hospital and Health-System Pharmacy Week: October 20-26, 2013 NationalHospital&Health-SystemPharmacyWeekacknowledgestheinvaluablecontributionsthatpharmacistsandtechnicians make to patient care in our nation’s health care institutions. The role of the pharmacist has evolved to move beyondcompoundinganddispensingmedicationstobecomevitalmembersofmultidisciplinarypatient-careteams.Theynow provide dosing services, medication information, patient counseling, and medication reconciliation in a variety of practice setting such as hospitals, retail pharmacies, critical access rural hospitals, residency programs and various disease state clinics.ThepharmacistsatAllenhavebeenabletotakeontheseenhancedpatient-carerolesbecauseofthedeploymentofhighlytrained certified technicians. Our technicians play a pivotal role in the daily activities of the pharmacy and insure the timely and accurate preparation and delivery of medications to the various departments of the hospital.
