Getting Started

Welcome to FluidSure™ Metering & Mixing EquipmentTwo common questions when selecting a Meter & Mix system:

1. How can the process of bringing two materials together be so complicated?2. Why must a questionnaire be completed before a system can be proposed?

The answers become clear as our engineers work to assess your production requirements and refer to the material TDSthat provides information on viscosity, S.G. and content, which are just a few of the factors driving the recommendation of asystem.

Chemical CompositionsAmyriad materials are available from a large selection of resin and adhesive suppliers. Fisnar is part of the Ellsworthcorporation, the worlds largest distributor of specialty chemicals and coatings. This symbiotic resource provides immediateaccess to a wealth of available information on chemical compositions, either supplied by Ellsworth or accessed on behalf ofFisnar.

The MSDS is not as useful a document for technical information as the TDS, but it is critical for information regarding healthand hazard warnings, together with HAZMAT shipping directions if applicable. The TDS then is the first place to start and inconjunction with the TDS is the questionnaire, which will help to describe the production process and determine the volumepumps and reservoirs necessary to keep pace with the production cycle requirements. We recommend that this becompleted on line at www.fisnar.com - simply click “submit” when completed and our engineers will promptly reply.

There is one rule in preparing a proposal for a Meter & Mix system:

NO ASSUMPTIONS.

The Fisnar Questionnaire has been carefully constructed over years of experience - so please take some time to visit ourweb site www.fisnar.com and use the questionnaire to organize your information and ensure it is exact. If detail is missing orassumed, then it should be found and corrected or brought to the attention of the Fisnar engineer responsible for assistingin the proposal. If information is not available our engineers will help with your process and communicate with the chemicalsupplier directly.

Assumptions delay a proposal, waste time and will always be costly and degrade performance. Therefore if a questionnaireis completed with an assumption it is a time-bomb ticking away until the assumption is confirmed or corrected.

MaintenanceIt’s important to appreciate that any machine will require maintenance and like a car the more you drive the more regular themaintenance. We recommend that seals are replaced on a 6 - 12 monthly basis and more frequently if systems areoperating 24/7. With filled materials maintenance becomes more important and may require replacement of hardened partsfrom time to time.

The IJ30B is an economical general purpose, pneumatically powered, analog controlled machine. It’s single acting reciprocatingpistons are designed to volumetrically deliver discrete shots of medium to high viscosity or thixotropic two-part fluid. Examplesare epoxies, silicones & RTV’s, polyurethanes, potting and encapsulation compounds, adhesives, structural bonding materialsand acrylics.

The IJ20P is designed to dispense small discreet shots of homogeneously mixed two-part fluids, (for continuous beads refer IJ20E).Mechanically linked positive displacement metering pumps provide precise dispensing ranging from 0.04ml to 8ml.

The IJ20P is available as a free standing pneumatic driven bench top machine with foot pedal actuation. Alternatively its lightweightconstruction is also suitable for automation and can easily be mounted on a Fisnar robot.

The IJ900 is a precision machined auger screw dispensingsystem designed to meter & mix two part epoxies, silicones& urethanes “on the fly.”

The IJ900 method of micro liter meter & mixing is a viable al-ternative to the procurement, logistics and manufacturing is-sues arising from premixed & frozen materials.

Pre-mixed & frozen epoxies have special requirements thatadd significant costs. They also have specific chemical re-quirements and attributes that dictate high temperature cureprocesses. These high temperature cure schedules intro-duce detrimental thermal effects on components that resultin product design constraints.

The two-part epoxy formulations utilized for “mix on the fly”applications have low temperature cure schedules andthereby alleviate the thermal effects and resultant designconstraints.

The design features of the IJ900 Valve, include precisionmachined disposable auger components and unlike moldedaugers they result in precise micro liter dispensing of shotsand beads with all the added benefits of “mixing on the fly.”

The IJ400 is a series of progressive cavity, severe-duty,valveless meter mix machine models that provide accurateand repeatable volumetric dispensing over a wide spectrumof viscosities.

Abrasive filler materials are conveyed by a gentle endlessprogressive pump action that ensures long life of rotor-statorelements and reduces service down time.

IJ400PB - A bench mounted system that includes a mixinghead with integrated dispensers and a PLC dispensingcontrol for both resin and activator. Cartridge mountings arefitted as standard, optional bulk feeding is offered.

IJ400PR - A lightweight designed meter mix systemdesigned to mount directly on a Fisnar robot or integrated toother automated assembly systems. The components arefed from the pumps directly into the static-mixer, providing aconstant on-ratio condition, exact dispensing and a fast shotor bead sequencing.

IJ400PC - A compact table top unit for casting low tomedium viscosity media.

IJ400PM - A mobile system suitable for casting of low tomedium viscosity media. The valve mixing head is equippedwith a handle and start button to initiate the dispensingsequence.

Specifications

A semi-automatic cartridge dispensing system for metermix operationsdirect from the cartridge. For less viscous materials an optional710PT-LF pinch tube valve is available. The valve is mounted at thestatic mixer tip for accurate dispensing of drip-free mixed deposits.

The Fisnar Twin-Pack Cartridge Dispense System reduces stress, operator fatigue and ensures accurate dispensing with less rejectsand wasted material.

A foot pedal operated Fisnar SL101 Digital Dispenser is included for repeatable timed cycling or manual deposits. A universalcartridge holder for 50, 200, 400 and 600ml cartridges may be swiveled at any angle for a comfortable bench operating position.

Alternatively the system can be used in conjunction with a Fisnar robot as a convenient method of interfacing a cartridge feed forautomatic deposition of mixed material.

FluidSure systems are designed to dispense a wide range of two-part resins including polyurethanes, epoxies, silicones,methacrylates and polyesters.

The following examples detail a few popular applications:

Potting and EncapsulationMany electrical and electronic components such as coils, toroids, transformers, power supplies and printed circuit boards,are potted using polyurethanes or epoxies. The quantity dispensed may be from a few grams up to many kilograms.Due to the continuing requirement for improved quality, potting under vacuum conditions may be required.

CastingThe production of parts cast in open or closed moulds using polyesters or polyurethanes. High outputs are often required asthe component size may be large or the resin used may have a fast gel time. A typical application is in the production ofwind turbine blades using vacuum draw-through.

BondingAssembling parts using high strength adhesive systems. Beads of adhesive can be applied directly from the machine usinga hand held gun or automated robot system.

FiltersProduction of many types of filters such as oil, air and water and other liquid filters require mixing and dispensing two partpolyurethanes and epoxies together with single part plastisols.

Bead and Gasket LayingApplication of precise patterns of sealant or resins for form-in-place gaskets in such diverse requirements as solar panels,electrical components and motor covers. Our complete service can provide a FluidSure™ system interfaced to a Fisnar robotfor either a bench or conveyor fed application.

CoatingFrequent examples include supplying a mixed material to feed roller coating machines for applications such as woodveneering, coating of fabrics or bonding of mesh panels.

FillingFilling liquids and pastes into easily handled syringes from bulk is a growing requirement. Fisnar Inc offers equipment to fillsingle and dual syringes together with larger cartridges as well as tins and other containers. A high degree of accuracybetter than 0.5% is achieved with FluidSure systems, eliminating waste and increasing production throughput.

Insulating Glass UnitsApplying an edge sealant to glass units is a long established process involving the mixing of polyurethanes, polysulphidesand silicones. This process is also used in structural glazing where the unit is bonded into subframes.
