Interns will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of planning and policy issues, including active transportation, public health, water and energy. This recruitment is for two (2) Intern positions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Perform a wide variety of administrative and technical assignments to support working groups and policy committees. Monitor and keep informed of current trends in assigned program areas, including legislation, court rulings, current events and transportation plans that may inform regional policy and plans. Coordinate or assist with the coordination and support of public workshops, forums, trainings, outreach and other special events; promote and encourage special event attendance. Develop Power Point presentations for a variety of audiences regarding SCAG programs and initiatives. Draft the department’s website content and coordinate with Media and Public Affairs on the development of other communication materials. Research, write, and present reports and recommendations on a variety of topics; participate in conducting studies and analysis involving assigned programs and functions concerning policies, practices, procedures, financial resources, facilities, proposals, staffing, new programs and projects, effectiveness of programs, and planning.

• Collect, compile, describe, organize, analyze, interpret, and present data and information related to area and issues under study.

• Assist in the coordination of data and materials for the department or section; consult with businesses, citizens, SCAG personnel, consultants, governmental agencies, and associations to obtain and distribute information and data.

• Perform a variety of clerical or technical tasks in support of SCAG programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training and Experience: A college student who is currently enrolled in a graduate level program taking classes toward a degree objective or who has graduated within the previous 12 months. Coursework in Active Transportation planning is desirable.

Knowledge of: Principles of urban planning with emphasis in land use, transportation, and environmental planning; and understanding of the relationships between the built environment, public health, economy, and overall sustainability, knowledge of various environmental and sustainable practices, including storm water management, urban agriculture, green design, and resource management. IDEAL CANDIDATE QUALITIES:

• Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and office communications software. • Demonstrated ability to write well and make verbal presentations. • Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy, both orally and in writing. • Ability to work independently and a team environment. • Ability to think critically and problem-solve. • Ability to learn fast and problem solve. • Ability to manage workload effectively including planning, organizing, prioritizing and

meeting deadlines.
