CHAIRMANS REPORT SUNNINGHILL COMMUNITY AGM On Wednesday the 26 th of July 2017 Sunninghill Community Ratepayers Association held its Annual General Meeting. We thank those who took the time out to attend. To view all the reports please visit www.sunninghillnews.co.za This is what our Chair Linda Gildenhuys had to say: A.G.M time signals the fact that another financial year has come to an end and simultaneously presents me with the opportunity to speak to you again. It has been an absolute pleasure to serve you as chairperson for the past few years. Much has happened during that time and I am happy to announce that the Sunninghill Community Ratepayers Association is still going strong. This year has seen us continue to develop our mission of “Creating a great place to live, work and relax in a secure and beautiful environment”. When I reflect on the past year, I am struck by many events both positive and negative. Rob (who kindly came back to do the operations report) will go into some of our successes over the past year including the installation of the much needed fibre to the home and streetlights that we have been working on for so long, this has not only assisted us with our important CCTV security project but has increased the quality of life and security to many of our residents. In addition to improved security, which I will touch on later, we have also managed to welcome a number of new members to our Sunninghill Community family, which will go a long way in assisting us to realise our vision for Sunninghill. I mention again that a strong membership base will strengthen the organisation and with this will strengthen our voice when dealing with authorities. We urge you to continue giving us your support and we ask that in addition you help promote the often thankless jobs we do by assisting us in growing this very important membership, our voice. We are not the Council, we are ratepayers in Sunninghill like you are. We are not the enemy, we do not fix potholes, sewerage and water leaks, we do not have the authority to remove busses or taxi’s, we are not the police or JMPD but do liaise, build relationships which assist us and fight when necessary to address these issues. We ask that you support us, not fight with us, we ask that you understand that in areas where there are no ratepayers associations, resident have to tackle these matters on their own, not a collective. Although we do battle, we are more successful than most and can become even more so if we work together. We have placed many items on the wish list for Councils budget for our area. These like the streetlights we will continue fighting for. Security has been the bigger focus of Sunninghill Community for many years and will no doubt always be, however we dearly would love to be able to spend more time and money on beautification in the area. We have identified an area that we will be focusing on this year, and who knows if we obtain more members, other areas could follow. The area identified is the area at the very bottom of Tana Road where it joins Rivonia. Although it does not look large, it is in fact around 2500m². This part of Sunninghill has no park and we intend slowly but surely turning this bit of no man’s land which is presently an eyesore and a security risk into a fenced off park with jungle gyms etc. We will soon be calling on those who would like to be involved in the project to join us to begin the planning. To all our members I once again express my sincerest appreciation for your confidence in us. Without you it would be impossible to continue the work we are doing. Last but not least, all our sponsors as we continue along the road, I plead that you would continue to support us to enhance the potential of this suburb. I would also like to thank the Executive Management for their dedicated and efforts over the past year.
