Are low fat avocados a thing?The answer is yes! Scrolling through my Instagram feed I see lots of

pictures of avocado smoothies, avocados on toast,

salads, etc! Loved for its creamy texture, given to

it by its high fat content the average avocado has

330 calories and 20g – 30g of fat. Enter the

low-fat avocado, developed by Spanish company Isla Bonita, who claim

that their product has 30% less fat. Before you say good bye to your full

fat avocado just remember that while high in fat, it is good fat.

Our consultant dietitian Gillian McConnell recommends reducing your

portion size to a quarter of an avocado daily or 1 avocado per week.

great new ranges. They were wowed by the breadth of

work with every day.

TrendsFOOD Could Ireland’s Seaweed be the New Kale?

Any visitors to the West of Ireland will be familiar with the use of seaweed or sea veg in bread, salads and soups. Generally, an under used natural Irish resource, advocates have been singing its praises both in terms of health benefits and the flavour that it brings to a dish.

Sea veg is now becoming more main stream, Donegal distillery Sliabh Liag have launched a seaweed flavoured gin, and we are seeing seaweed used more in desserts.

Rocket & Grana SaladWash and dry the rocket leaves.In a large bowl, place the leaves and the shaved grana padano cheese.Drizzle the extra virgin olive oil and toss delicately.

Rosemary & Sea Salt Pomme Pont NeufPeel and wash the potatoes.Cut into sticks of 1 cm thick and 7 cm long, wash well and dry in a cloth.Deep fry at 170°c for 7 to 8 minutes, until they start to colour, drain and keep aside.To serve fry again at 180°c until golden.Drain in a large bowl, sprinkle the sea salt and rosemary straight away.
