Today’s Game Insider University of Dubuque Luther College Welcome to Chalmers Field for today’s NCAA Division III football game with our visitors, the Luther College Norse, and your hometown University of Dubuque Spartans. Today the Spartans will take a few minutes to honor our seniors and the parents of our student-athletes prior to kick-off. UD enjoyed their bye week over Halloween and return to action against the Norse who enter after suffering a loss to Wartburg College by a 9-24 score. Luther’s Kyle McGivney was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week after tallying a single-game career-high 23 tackles in last week’s losing effort vs. Wartburg. He currently leads the Iowa Conference in tackles averaging 15.3 per game. The Norse defense will attempt to stop the high scoring Spartans offense (23.3 ppg). UD ranks first in passing offense, 280 yards a game in IIAC play and 36th in the country. The Spartans are averaging 398.88 yards a game in 2009, sparked by the NCAA Division III National Leader Michael Zweifel. He ranks first in receptions per game (11.25) and in receiving yards per game (141.25). Zweifel is closing in on UD’s Matt Plummer’s single sea- son records. Plummer holds the IIAC records in receptions with 83, and in receiving yards 1,182. Quarterback Colton Hansen ranks 43rd in passing effeciency while running back Justin Spaulding is tied for 61st in rushing (92.75 yards a game). Today the Spartans will take a few minutes to honor our seniors andthe parents of our student-athletes prior to kick-off.
