4 The Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time

READING I: Wis 7:7-11I prayed, and prudence was given me; I pleaded, and the spirit of wisdom came to me. I preferred her to scepter and throne, and deemed riches nothing in comparison with her, nor did I liken any priceless gem to her; because all gold, in view of her, is a little sand, and before her, silver is to be accounted mire. Beyond health and comeliness I loved her, and I chose to have her rather than the light, because the splendor of her never yields to sleep. Yet all good things together came to me in her company, and countless riches at her hands.

The Word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM: Ps 90:12-13, 14-15, 16-17R. (14) Fill us with your love, O Lord, and we will sing for joy!

Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain wisdom of heart.Return, O LORD! How long? Have pity on your servants!

R. Fill us with your love, O Lord, and we will sing for joy!Fill us at daybreak with your kindness, that we may shout for joy and gladness all our days.

Make us glad, for the days when you a*icted us, for the years when we saw evil.R. Fill us with your love, O Lord, and we will sing for joy!

Let your work be seen by your servants and your glory by their children;and may the gracious care of the LORD our God be ours; prosper the work of our hands for us!

Prosper the work of our hands!R. Fill us with your love, O Lord, and we will sing for joy!

READING II: Heb 4:12-13Brothers and sisters: Indeed the word of God is living and e!ective, sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating even between soul and spirit, joints and marrow, and able to discern re+ections and thoughts of the heart. No creature is concealed from him, but everything is naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must render an account.

The Word of the Lord.Alleluia: Mt 5:3

R. Alleluia, alleluia.Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

R. Alleluia, alleluia.

+GOSPEL: Mk 10:2-12As Jesus was setting out on a journey, a man ran up, knelt down before him, and asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus answered him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. You know the commandments: You shall not kill; you shall not commit adultery; you shall not steal; you shall not bear false witness; you shall not defraud; honor your father and your mother.” He replied and said to him, “Teacher, all of these I have observed from my youth.” Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said to him, “You are lacking in one thing. Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.” At that statement his face fell, and he went away sad, for he had many possessions. Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!” The disciples were amazed at his words. So Jesus again said to them in reply, “Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” They were exceedingly astonished and said among themselves, “Then who can be saved?” Jesus looked at them and said, “For human beings it is impossible, but not for God. All things are possible for God.” Peter began to say to him, “We have given up everything and followed you.” Jesus said, “Amen, I say to you, there is no one who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands for my sake and for the sake of the gospel who will not receive a hundred times more now in this present age: houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and eternal life in the age to come.”

The Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time 5

PRAYING FOR OUR BELOVED DEAD We would like to include a list in our bulletin of those who have recently passed away. Praying for the dead is one of the Spiritual Works of Mercy and is a beautiful way to support a member of our parish who has su!ered a loss. The list may include a parishioner who has died, or a family member of a parishioner who has died (mother, father, child, sibling, other family members). The listing will be very simple, such as:

“We pray for the repose of the soul of… John Smith, parishioner Sue Wilson, mother of Mary Jones”

The church o$ce will take care of listing any parishioner who has passed away. If their funeral will be celebrated here at OLG, we will list it on the church website calendar. If you have a family member who passes away and you would like to include them, please call the church o%ce to let us know, 336-274-6520. It is comforting to know the parish prays for you in your time of need.

never thirst”. (Jn 6: 35)

OLG YOUNG ADULT GROUP HOLY HOURWe are very excited to announce that the OLG Young Adult Group will be hosting its very #rst Holy Hour on Monday, October 11th at 7pm followed by a small social time. Within these trying times, it is important to place ourselves at the Feet of Our Savior and join together to build up His Mys-tical Body, the Church. All young adults 18 to 40 are invited to come and pray and join a community of like minded men and women.

WHEELS4HOPE

Wheels4Hope is in the car blessing business, but they need your support to keep the wheels rolling. The local non-proXt agency places donated cars with low-income families, but donations have taken a hit due to the pan-demic. So far, they've placed 27 cars with families this year. Since opening the Triad o$ce in 2012, more than 400 men and women have received cars from our program. The impact has also changed the lives of approximately 450 children connected to our adult participants. Your used car will change lives, donate your car and claim a tax de-duction. You can also help as a volunteer! Car enthusiasts wanted- no experience needed to pick up donated cars or drive cars to/from our Partner Garages. For more infor-mation please visit www.wheels4hope.org or call 336-355-9130.

LECTIO DIVINA GROUPSWe are currently looking for people to lead several small Lectio Divina groups. There will be a maximum of 8 to 10 people per group, includ-ing two leaders per group. RESPECT LIFE MONTHAn old Irish proverb says, ‘It is in the shelter of each other that the people live.’ Indeed, we are created to depend upon one another and walk together in su!ering. But when family members or friends approach life's end, we may not know how best to ‘shelter’ them. Here are some concrete ways we can compassionately care for them: usccb.org/end-of-life-care.

ON THE MONTH OF THE ROSARY“The Holy Rosary is not a pious practice banished to the past, like prayers of other times thought of with nostalgia. Instead, the Rosary is experienc-ing a new Springtime. Without a doubt, this is one of the most eloquent signs of love that the young generation nourish for Jesus and his Mother, Mary. In the current world, so dispersive, this prayer helps to put Christ at the centre, as the Virgin did, who meditated within all that was said about her Son, and also what he did and said.” (Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI)

OUR LADY OF GRACEVAN MINISTRY We are currently looking to reactivate the Church Van Ministry. In order to o!er this service, we need qualiXed drivers! We hope to have enough that a volunteer driver would serve every other month. Normally, the service is o!ered for the 11 am Mass. In order to qualify as a driver, all volunteers must comply with the Virtus Protecting God’s Children Program and the motor vehicle safety requirements of the Diocese of Charlotte. Interested in serving the parish as a van driver, please contact Chris Frank at [email protected] for more information. Currently, we have a parishioner who is in need of a ride to Mass. She lives in the 27407 zip code area (not on the parish van route). If you would be willing to provide a ride, please contact the parish o%ce at 336-274-6520.
