For those who are really serious about their work – the new SCORPION.

Following the introduction of the SCORPION telehandler in 2005, CLAAS now presents a completely new SCORPION range – and once again sets the benchmark. As a crucial piece of machinery for material handling, the telehandler is becoming increasingly important on many farms. Accordingly, when developing the new SCORPION models, we placed the emphasis on performance, profitability and convenience.

The three new SCORPION models, the 9055, 7055 and 7044, come with some very impressive performance data. Significantly improved lifting capacity and breakaway power for all models, together with greater hydraulic output to provide maximum loading capacity, make the SCORPION a valuable workhorse on every farm.

Cab

New standards for cab convenience. The new cab design is more spacious than ever before, with an further improvement in the 360° all-round visibility. The lower half of the two-section door, too, is now made of glass. With equipment features such as a refrigerated storage compartment, revised pedal arrangement, air conditioning, side and rear window heating, radio with Bluetooth interface, and electric mirror adjustment, the SCORPION can meet even the most individual demands. On request, the new models can be fitted with a dynamically sprung seat. So, all in all, you can feel completely at home, in the most comfortable SCORPION work environment yet.

New instrument panel. The completely new design for the right-hand instrument panel is placed at a slight angle so that it is perfectly in the driver's field of vision. The new adjustment feature for the different steering modes is within easy reach, just in front of the joystick.

The newly designed gauges also include a digital display. As well as showing some of the operating modes, it manages the settings for the auxiliary control circuits. This function is controlled by a rotary switch and push button at the side of the display.

Thanks to the conveniently positioned display and controls, the driver can respond quickly in every work situation, when changing the steering mode, for example, or adjusting the numbers of the auxiliary spool valves during use.

Really comfortable.

5

Clear layout of the working area.In the SCORPION cab, the switches are all colour-coded and grouped by function, making their operation as straightforward as possible.

Colour coding for switchesGreen: hydraulicsBlue: driving modeRed: safetyGrey: electric functionsOrange: direction of travel and neutralAll switches are additionally marked with clear symbols, which are backlit when it is dark.

Operation

Sits comfortably in your hand.Another outstanding feature in the new SCORPION models is the perfectly coordinated cab ergonomics. For example, the joystick is integrated into the armrest, and follows the driver in every situation. Additionally, the seat position can be adjusted to the joystick, which means that all drivers can find their preferred working position. The joystick is electronically pilot-operated, and responds very precisely.

The automatic bucket return can be activated using an additional button. The third control circuit is operated with a roller switch on the front of the joystick. As in previous models, orange switches are used to change direction or shift to neutral. A completely new feature is the choice of three driving ranges on the joystick.

Extremely ergonomic.

7

Lightning-fast changeover.Careful manoeuvring or very precise operation of the drive train is needed in many work situations. If you have to load in tight spaces, it helps to reduce the maximum speed. And you can still drive with a slightly increased engine speed to make the most of the hydraulic output.

When a different driving range is selected, the maximum speed and therefore the sensitivity of the accelerator changes. Pressing the button with the "Snail" symbol switches to a lower driving range. By pressing the "Hare" button, on the other hand, you can change to the next-higher range.

Three lights in the right-hand instrument panel ensure the driver always has a clear overview of the current driving range. The control concept allows you to achieve unimaginable loading performance – you can steer with your left hand, while driving and operating the loading system with your right.

For optimum working conditions.Equally comfortable on long, hot harvest days, in changing conditions when working in farm buildings, or on cold winter days – the SCORPION is equipped with a large and powerful fan. A large number of air vents are also positioned at strategic points around the cab, so that fogged-up windows can be cleared quickly. Seat heating is also available ex factory.

Clear view. The side window on the right and rear window are optionally available as heated versions ex factory. In addition, the right-hand mirror can also be heated to ensure perfect visibility.

Engines

The performance potential of the SCORPION calls for sustained reserves of power. Selected high-performance engines from Deutz ensure superb power delivery in conjunction with low fuel consumption. Both the 9055 and 7055 models are equipped with 4.1-litre four-cylinder engines with an output of 115 KW/156 hp. A 3.6-litre, four-cylinder engine developing 90 KW/122 hp is installed in the 7044 model. A special feature of this new generation of engines is the increased torque. Powerful common rail injection systems also guarantee low fuel consumption in every phase.

Exhaust gas aftertreatment with DOC and DPF.Thanks to efficient exhaust gas aftertreatment, the new engines comply with the new Stage IIIB emissions standard (Tier 4i). In order to meet the legally prescribed values in the new SCORPION models, CLAAS employs two different systems: a diesel particulate filter (DPF) and a diesel oxidation catalytic converter (DOC). The 4.1-litre engines in the SCORPION 9055 and 7055 models operate with a combination of the auto-cleaning DPF, and the fully maintenance-free DOC. In the 3.6-litre engine in the SCORPION 7044, the exhaust gas aftertreatment consists of a maintenance-free DOC system only.

The large 230-litre diesel tank is easily accessible behind the cab on the right-hand side of the machine.

Really powerful.

9

Designed for the toughest applications. The new SCORPION models are also distinguished by a special air ducting concept for use under all conditions. At the same time, the air ducting effectively prevents dust and dirt being stirred up and sucked in. The required cooling air is drawn in at the front into the upper part of the engine hood. It flows through the radiator, is the channeled past the engine block and exits the engine compartment at the top rear section of the engine hood along with the exhaust gas.

Clean the radiator at the press of a button. It goes without saying that dust and dirt are bound to collect during use on the intake panels or in the radiators. But all it takes is the push of a button to reverse the fan. Even at full engine speed, the hydraulically powered fan wheel first changes direction, and then blows free the radiators and intake panels at full speed. Clean air is drawn in from the machine's upper rear section.

Straightforward and easily managed – maintenance. The engine is installed at a 90° angle to the direction of travel. This guarantees easy access and simplifies any maintenance work required. The engine tray features screwed maintenance openings at the relevant points to facilitate changing the filter.

Thanks to the large opening angle of the bonnet, you can easily stand underneath, for example to remove the air filter.

Drive train

The perfect combination of power and precision. In CLAAS POWER SYSTEMS, we have brought together the best components to create a drive system that is in a class of its own – one that always delivers the greatest power when needed, ideally matched to the work systems and with fuel-saving technology that quickly pays for itself.

Power transfer in a line. The VARIPOWER transmission is installed in the centre of the drive train. The two cardan shafts lead directly to the axles without any change of direction. This means that no power is wasted, and maximum efficiency is generated from the full drive train.

The continuously variable VARIPOWER drive system. The intelligent VARIPOWER drive system ensures impressive driving qualities. It allows you to drive with sensitivity and precision, using precisely the thrust force you need. At the heart of the VARIPOWER drive system is a hydrostatic drive with wide-angle swash-plate technology (45°). The SCORPION can therefore accelerate smoothly to its top speed of 40 km/h. The speed and thrust force are constantly and automatically coordinated. All models are available as 20-km/h, 30-km/h and 40-km/h versions. The three drive ranges – 0–7 km/h, 0–15 km/h and 0–30/40 km/h – can be conveniently selected on the joystick, even while driving and under full load. This combination of power and precision makes the SCORPION unbeatable.

30-km/h version with highest thrust force. The VARIPOWER PLUS drive train, in conjunction with the shorter 30-km/h drive ratio, delivers incredible thrust – ideal for work in the silo.

Truly efficient.

11

SMART ROADING. CLAAS offers the VARIPOWER drive as a PLUS version in the SCORPION for even greater driving dynamics and thrust force. The more powerful drive system opens up entirely new possibilities in terms of boosting power, efficiency and driving comfort.

Once the top speed for the two modes all-wheel steering and front-axle steering has been reached, the speed can be reduced to 1,800 rpm (2,000 rpm for the SCORPION 7044 with VARIPOWER PLUS). SMART ROADING thus offers crucial advantages in terms of economic efficiency and convenience: diesel consumption is significantly reduced for transport work, and when transferring materials on the farm. In addition, the lower engine speed reduces the level of noise during operations.

Electronic hand throttle with saving function and a regulated creep-speed facility. For some applications, mainly on cattle farms, such as feeding or spreading, agricultural machinery needs to be operated with a constant oil volume. A constant engine speed can be set using the the electronic hand throttle in the right-hand arm rest. The electronic creep-speed facility can be used if you also need to travel at a constant speed. This allows infinitely variable adjustment of the ground speed for all conceivable applications. The ground speed can be adjusted by pushing the control lever in the armrest.

Chassis, boom, tyres

Completely new dimensions. With the new SCORPION models, CLAAS is responding to the clear desire of many farmers for greater lifting capacity and breakaway power. A lifting capacity of as much as 5.5 tonnes is possible, for example, with the two flagship models SCORPION 9055 and 7055. The chassis was completely redeveloped to meet these high demands. It consists of an undivided frame with very high torsional strength, tested in countless experiments and over many hours of operation.

In order to work safely with large loads, it is also crucial to be able to call on the machine's maximum power. The very low centre of gravity of the SCORPION guarantees you unmatched stability in every situation. This is achieved as a result of the extremely low pivot point of the boom in the chassis. When fully retracted, the boom is completely recessed in the chassis, affording an unobstructed view of the right-hand side of the machine in addition to high stability. A further key element of the concept is the side support for the boom in the chassis. When the bucket is being filled, or during shunting operations, the forces generated are

systematically transferred to the chassis. This ensures greater durability, and helps to exploit the available thrust force more efficiently.

The stylish way to move. Thanks to the newly designed and positioned rotary switch to change between the three steering modes, you can respond to any situation in a flash. The new steering mode can be selected simply by pressing and turning the switch. The handily placed position in the right-hand instrument panel guarantees rapid access. The maximum possible speed in the all-wheel steering mode is 30 km/h. Both axles are automatically synchronised in all SCORPION models when the steering mode is changed.

High endurance.

13

Optimised load diagram. Thanks to the new design and linkage geometry of the entire loading system, the new SCORPION models can not only apply their full lifting capacity on a particular point, but can also lift over a wide area. The SCORPION therefore stands out because of its especially high residual load capacity in combination with maximum extension and maximum height. It is an advantage that every operator who makes full use each day of the machine's potential will quickly appreciate.

Powerful and comfortable. In addition to its power, the convenience of use of a telehandler is an important criterion. End-of-travel damping is therefore integrated into lift, tilt and reach cylinders. This effectively prevents shocks in the lifting system when raising, tipping out or retracting the boom.

Load stabiliser with automatic function. The loading system is equipped with a vibration damping system that can be switched on and off at any time during work operations. In automatic mode, the load stabiliser is automatically activated at ground speeds above 7 km/h, and deactivated if the speed is lower. This ensures that the load can be precisely grabbed and set down again, and also provides excellent suspension comfort for longer transport distances.

The right tyres for every application.Every area of use poses special demands on the tyres. Whether traction tyres or industrial tyres: a wide range of variants is available ex factory. Thanks to the new chassis, a maximum tyre size of 600/55-26.5 is possible, so that the vehicle can be driven on soft ground without any problems.

Hydraulics, lighting and more

The prerequisite for high performance.Rapid movements of the loading system in interaction with the versatile drive system allow the SCORPION to deliver outstanding performance in load mode. All models feature load-sensing hydraulic systems, and load-independent proportional valves are installed as standard.

The models SCORPION 9055 and 7055 have a hydraulic ouput of 187 l/min, while the SCORPION 7044 has 140 l/min. Up to two double-acting control units can be used on the implement carrier. An external circle with a pressure line, unpressurised return line and an overflow oil line can be ordered ex factory for special tools, such as a pruning saw. In the rear of the machine, there is a simple and a double-acting connection with a collection tank for the leak oil.

Pressure-free tool changes. Straightforward and, more importantly, rapid changes of tools arepossible only if no pressure is exerted on the couplings. This prevents any unwanted oil losses or broken gaskets in the couplings. This is very easy to do with the new decompression facility in the gooseneck of the telescopic arm. At the press of a button, the connections to the implement carrier can be depressurised while the engine is running.

The most comfortable setting. The flow rates for all auxiliary spool valves can be adjusted using a rotary push switch on the right-hand instrument panel. This allows you to adjust the flow rate to the particular implement within seconds, or to adjust it to changing conditions. The different control circuits can be simply selected using the rotary push switch. The setting can then be made in five-percent steps. A change can already be seen on the device during the setting process.

Fully perfected.

15

Stowage compartments with lots of space.A belt or chain for loading purposes, a grease gun, tool, or anything else that is needed for work operations can be stowed in the rear of the machine. There are two large stowage compartments integrated into the low-set ballast weights. Together, they have a volume of 44 litres. The cover can be secured and padlocked.

Brightly lit.Speedy, safe driving without adequate lighting is not only exhausting, but dangerous as well. Up to nine working headlights, also optionally available as LEDs, ensure a clear all-round view. Their positioning on the cab, at the rear, on the right-hand side of the machine and on the boom arm mean that the entire work area is illuminated. Of course, the headlights can be switched in groups. Depending on the attached implement or setting, this helps avoid any glare.

Ready in a flash.Everything that cannot be reached with ease can be very easily overlooked – we've all had this experience. For this reason, when developing the SCORPION telehandler, great emphasis was placed on ease of maintenance. Lubrication points that are difficult to access are bundled into lubrication banks. As an optional extra, a central lubrication system can be installed ex factory, which continuously and reliably supplies each lubrication point with grease.

Thoroughly flexible: SMART HANDLING

Bucket return. The term SMART HANDLING in the SCORPION telehandlers stands for innovative functions that assist the driver. They offer greater convenience and enhanced safety when working with the SCORPION. A range of automatic functions and different operating modes for the overload limit are available.

The four operating modes:• Shovelling mode• Stacking mode • Vertical lift• Manual mode

A switch is used to change between modes. To ensure the highest level of operating safety in all application situations, the lowering speed in all operating modes is adjusted to the load on the loading system and its angle.

The greater and heavier the lifted load, the lower the maximum lowering speed. If the telescopic arm is fully retracted, the overload protection is deactivated to allow the filling of the bucket or shunting operations to be performed with full power. A load display positioned in the right-hand A-column keeps the driver fully informed about the current load on the loading system.

SMART HANDLING.

17

Vertical lift.An additional function can be activated in stacking mode – the vertical lift. In addition to lowering the load vertically, the load can be raised following an exact vertical line as well. In this instance, the telescopic boom is extended as required during the lifting process. All automatic functions can be manually overridden until the overload limit is reached.

Manual modeNo automatic functions are active in manual mode. All functions in the loading system can be engaged by the driver until the overload limit is reached. As soon as the overload limit is reached when the loading system is being lowered, or when extending the boom during lifting, the function in question is throttled and finally switched off. Once the load on the loading system returns to the safe range, all functions can be used again. It is not necessary to release the functions again.

Manual bridging on demand. In special situations, the overload limit can be briefly bridged by the driver with a two-hand operation, for up to 60 seconds. This can be useful, for example, when positioning large loads if the machine is being operated at the load limit.

Bucket mode. The bucket mode is the perfect mode to use when loading bulk materials in quick load cycles. Two steps are performed automatically in tandem: lowering and the retracting. In this operating mode, the telescopic boom is always retracted when the loading system is being lowered, irrespective of the lifting height or the load on the system.

The automatic retraction of the telescopic boom can be overridden until the overload limit is reached. Driver and machine are always in the safe working area. When the overload limit is reached, all functions except boom extension can continue to be operated as normal.

Stacking mode.In the stacking mode, it is a simple task to position bales and pallets exactly, since the loading system automatically follows a vertical line. Lowering and retracting follows the plumbline exactly. Boom extension when lifting the load is always performed manually.
