TRANSCRIPT
December is all about presence.
Wait. That must be misspelled? Isn’t it all about presents?
I don’t know about you but when I was a child, December was a time to grab the Sears or JC Pen-ney catalogue and circle the toys, games and sports equipment that you wanted from Santa. Since I had two brothers, it was a circle with your name next to it just so there was no mix up on the gifts. But really, when I think about it, the gift giving was all about presence too.
Christmas gift giving was a gathering of people who loved you and people you loved. In the pres-ence of family, you knew that you were loved. There were people who cared about you and peo-ple who perhaps sacrificed something to make your day a little brighter. Which is more im-portant? Presents or presence?
Maybe they are both important.
If you meditate on the Christmas story and reflect on God’s actions, they are both presents and presence. Well, presents in the sense of gifts that is. At Christmas God, out of His kindness and love for us, gives us the gift of His one and only Son. Because of His incarnation (miraculous conception) God also makes His presence known in a very special way. God dwells with man-kind putting on human flesh Himself.
So be assured that God is with us as gift and He is with us to this day very, very personally. He is gift for us as He becomes our Savior through His life, death and resurrection. He is among us as He promised “I will never leave you or forsake you.” He is also among us personally as Jesus gives us His very body and blood to eat and to drink for the forgiveness of our sins and the strengthen-ing of our faith.
During this Christmas season, may God bless you both with His presents and His presence.
In Christ,
For with You is the fountain of life; in Your Light we see light. Psalm 36:9

As I write about these books, it seems to me they could
have been featured last month in preparation for Christ-mas. That said, I’m hoping you might find some quiet time somewhere within December (or even January) to
enjoy them. #1 -”Treasured Stories of Christ-
mas” by various authors published by Guideposts. This holiday col-
lection is brimming with true-to-life stories and uplifting poems that celebrate the real meaning of
the season. #2 -”Keeping Christmas” by Dan
Walsh. An empty nest couple are spending the holidays alone. Ju-
dith can’t bring herself to decorate the tree without the children’s help. Stan knows he has to do something. Will a box of
handmade ornaments change everything? #3– Next book titled “A Basket
Brigade Christmas” was inspired by the true story of the Civil War’s
Basket Brigade women. It also contains “A Pinch of Love”, “A Stitch in Time”, and “Endless Mel-
ody”, three light, easy-to-read love stories.
We will be setting out on the Fea-tured shelf our Family and Chil-
dren’s Christmas DVDs. Included will be a new one for families “The Christmas Wish” - a wish wrapped
in a mystery. Starring Debbie Reynolds and Neil Patrick Harris this “is a movie of compassion and forgiveness that
will be entertaining for all.” -The Dove Foundation P.S. PLEASE, Please… Sign your name on the card that’s
found inside the front cover of our books. Several are missing from the shelves and no cards are in the Take Out
file box. Please help us retain our library books. Elaine Rall, Library Representative

You'll find Jesus here! Yes, Trinity Luther-an School is Christ-centered, and that is the
focus of our school but it's only one of the reasons parents choose to send their chil-dren to Trinity. When I give tours the
questions parents usually ask are about arri-val and dismissal times, lunch, curriculum,
class sizes, etc. After all the choices, the explanations, the visits to the classrooms,
and the countless phone calls, the reason that a parent would ultimately choose our school is because of the love and commit-
ment they feel from their visit. Modern day parents want one-on-one attention, a safe
campus, a dependable and loving faculty and staff, and accountable administra-
tion. If you don't see Jesus in your child's current school, schedule a tour with us to find Jesus in ours.

GLORY TO THE NEWBORN KING!! Watch Fast Direct, the Torch, the announcement page on Sunday mornings, and your monthly newslet-ter for information regarding Open Youth Room. Open Youth Room is held from 6:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m. in the Youth Room. The refrigerator is full and the fellowship is always waiting! Friends are always wel-come! Hope to see you all there for a lot of fun! Thank you to everyone who plucked a feather from Tom Turkey again this year. With your help the youth were able to fill ten baskets for members of our church and school who are in need at this time. The baskets were filled to the brim with enough food to give each family a Thanksgiving dinner with all of the trimmings. The youth are continually reminded through their service to the community and Trin-ity of the many blessings they receive on a daily basis. We thank God for each youth who take time out of their busy schedules to serve. The Christmas Gathering will be held on December 17th. We will begin at 6:00 p.m. and finish at 8:00 p.m. There will be time set aside for a Christmas devotion, food, fun and fellowship. More details will be sent to the youth in the December newsletter. Friends are invited to attend. We ask that you do not arrive early as Saturday evening service will be going on! IT’S BACK!!!! Winter Retreat…mark those calendars for the weekend of December 27-30. Deadline for sign up was November 1. Don’t miss out on this fabulous opportunity! You have all been earning money in your accounts by working several events and should have enough money to cover the cost! We are headed to Camp Luther. You will enjoy various outdoor winter activities, Bible study, games, music, and much more! At the time of this writing, thirty youth and adults are signed up. See Mr. Grady TO-DAY if you have any questions. The youth will be having their annual pizza sale immediately following the Christmas holiday. The pizzas are from Little Caesar’s company and are delicious. This is the one fundraiser where each youth gets the full return on their individual sales. The order forms will be sent out during Christmas break. We are asking that each youth group member to sell six items. Any Trinity members who would like to pur-chase pizzas may do so by seeing a youth group member or Mr. Grady. Thank you for your support! Information regarding the 2016 Mission Trips will be forthcoming after the first of the year. The Senior Youth are headed to West Virginia. The Middle School Youth are headed to Grand Rapids, Mich-igan. We are looking for adult chaperones to join us. If you are interested, please see Rob Grady. Stewardship Angels Hear the Harmony
"As Jacob went on his way, God's angels met him." Genesis 32:l
Angels are spirits who serve all creation. Their job on earth is to fight for the good of the world and the wel-fare of God's people. Their job in heaven is to sing "Glory to God in the highest..." and "Lord God, we praise you..." Christ says that the "angels in heaven always see the face of my Father." Matthew 18:10
The angels have a good understanding of how the world works. They know that there's a correlation between the fortunate circum-stances of wicked people and the adverse conditions of faithful believers. While, we Christians, are still on earth, we cannot fully understand this or see how it can be true. At the end of the world, after this life, we will understand how all of this fits together.
People who are unfamiliar with the principles of musical harmony have trouble appreciating how the various sounds produced by an organ or harp can result in such beautiful music In this life, we hear the sounds, not the symphony. It appears to us that God is asleep and the devil is wide awake and ruling everything. Human reason concludes that neither God nor people are in control of the world, but everything on earth happens by chance. Human wisdom can't comprehend the infinite, heavenly truth that God is in charge and allow many more things in this world to succeed than fail. God's kindness is more widespread than the devil's cruel-ty. But human reason makes us uncertain because we experience so much disorder and injustice. We feel uncertain because we don't see by the same light as the angels do. We can't understand how right and wrong, life and death, light and darkness all har-monize.
Prayer: Dear Lord, we daily need to be reminded that You are still in control of the world. We see the sin and injustices done by and to others and we are quick to blame You for these things. Help us to realize that this world is imperfect since the Fall of Adam into sin and even so You will deliver us safely to Eternal Life with You in heaven, if we but believe and trust Your Word. Help us to be an influence for good to those around us that they may believe in You and Your message of salvation. We pray in Jesus name. Amen.

Successful Stewardship Emphasis! By Rev. Mark Bussert, Director of Stewardship
As of this writing (November 16), 117 individuals or families have submitted a Faith Commitment in this year’s annual Stew-ardship Emphasis, “How to Be Rich.” This is slightly more than last year’s number (115), and a few more may yet come in. These Faith Commitments total almost $440,000 (last year it was $414,000), averaging $3,990, about $77 per week! Nearly half indicated that they are increasing their offering.
Perhaps the most exciting outcome of this year’s program is that our generous members contributed more than $7,100 for the three charities highlighted by the Board of Stewardship. At this point – and the number could still go up – the Northern Illinois District’s Enviando project for San Pablo, Aurora, will receive about $3,200, St. Matthew’s Soup Kitchen about $2,300 and Bridge Communities $1,500. The gift to Enviando will be matched by funds given to the NID from another con-gregation in the District. Thank You to everyone who gave so that others might have a better life!
If you have not turned in your Faith Commitment, it’s not too late! Bring or mail it to the Church office. Donations for the special charities offering can still be given, too.
Remember what we learned this year: We are rich! But the most important thing is to be rich toward God, rich in good deeds, generous and willing to share (Luke 12:21, 1 Timothy 6:18).

International Missionary - Michael Ersland (LBT missionary & translation advisor in Ghana)
What a month September was! I began the month by taking
a week long course on northern Ghanaian culture at the Tamale
Institute of Cross-Cultural Studies (TICCS).
I then went back to the mission in Gbintiri to begin settling
into the mission house.
Language Learning
I began more formal, directed language learning the end of Sep-
tember. I meet with my teacher for a few hours, five days a
week.
The picture to the right displays some objects from one of my
language sessions. Can you guess what I was learning?
I was learning about the five senses.
As children, we learn about the world around us through our senses. So this lesson was focused on learning how to ask questions
about ‘What do you taste/smell/hear/touch/see?’ This helps me learn how to interact with the world and learn about the world
from the local perspective.
See: glasses
Smell: shoe, soap, essential oil
Taste: salt, pepper, sugar
Touch: smooth & rough rock, bark
Hear: (not pictured: chickens, Guinea Fowl and various other birds)
Become Facebook friends with Michael Ersland to keep track of his adventures. Just go to Ersland Updates and ask to join
the group.

“I do not make pledges”
That’s what someone wrote on a card that was turned in (with no name, of course).
Really?
Oh, yes you do!
When you buy a new car or take out a mortgage, you pledge to make your monthly payments. When you use a credit card, you promise to pay it off.
When you get married, you vow to love and be faithful to that partner “’til death do us part.” When you baptize a child, you promise to raise that child in the Christian faith.
When you get a job, you commit to show up for work and faithfully serve your employer or company.
If you serve in the armed forces, you will do whatever is necessary, to the death, to defend and protect your country.
Life is all about pledges. Why would you not commit to return offerings to the Lord, who provides for you richly every day,
and gives you eternal life through Jesus Christ? Why would you not financially support a ministry that cares for you spiritually
and does much good in the community?
