Consequences for Player Development

Begin with the end productin mind i.e. 1-4-3-3:

1. Building blocks for players2. Recognition for players3. Player-centered4. Long-term oriented

The “here and now” in mind:

1. What formation gives methe best way to win the game today?

2. New formation per age group?

3. Coach-centered4. Immediate result-oriented

Why the 1-4-3-3 is the desired end formation in Grassroots youth soccer11 vs.11

We emphasis:The 1-4-3-3 is A way

Not THE way

But we do think that the 1-4-3-3 is the “easiest” and most recognizable formation and thus great for youth

long-term development.

The 1-4-3-3 & preceding Formations provide:

1. Structure for triangles & diamonds2. Thus passing lanes3. 2 blocks of players4. 1 vs. 1 situations

Remember the individual player development by connecting the different

game models.Self-Determination-Theory
