TRANSCRIPT
Dear Parents and Carers,
It gives me great pleasure to be sending you our first in the
series of fortnightly updates to ensure you are as well-informed
as possible about events in our academy.
We have enjoyed a fantastic (but very hot) start to the year. We
are delighted with our excellent GCSE results and our best ever
A Level results and offer congratulations to our family members
who worked so hard to support our young people to achieve so
well.
Our examination groups for 2017 are already extremely focused;
Year 9 are enjoying starting their options subjects and Year 7
have really benefitted from the 2 weeks of induction in July.
I hope you enjoy reading the news updates in this way—please
let us know if you would like us to include any specific
information which would be helpful to you and your family.
Enjoy the weekend together.

Art Displays
Our annual Open Evening for new Year 7
students starting September 2017 is being
held at the academy on Thursday 29th
September from 18:00—please spread the
word, or come along if you have younger children who would like to visit
and see us in action. Similarly, our Sixth Form Open Evening is taking
place on Thursday, 6th October from 18:00-20:30.
Our fantastically talented art
department have been working hard
over the summer, creating wonderful
ways to display our incredible
students’ artwork.
Geography Fieldtrip
Year 11 Geography students
enjoyed a fieldtrip to Thetford forest
this week, collecting data for their
coursework. It’s Year 10’s turn next
week!
Uniform — Shirts
We would like to clarify further about shirts at the academy. Students must wear a white shirt, however the sleeves may be of any length. We do ask, however, that sleeves are not rolled up, they are tucked in and the top button is done up. Girls may wear blouses but if they choose to wear a tie they must wear a proper shirt.

Sixth Form Update
After a success two weeks back we have already had an informative Expectations
Evening and an assembly on student finance which students found very useful. We
have more coming up in the following weeks — on Monday 19th September, we have
SNCO in, providing information regarding university and life after Sixth Form. On
Wednesday 21st and Friday 23rd we have Lucy Nottingham from the UEA in to help all
Sixth Form students with their personal statements. We also have an exciting
opportunity to take students to the Isle of Wight during October.
Community Learning @ Ormiston Victory Academy
At Victory, we know that extra-curricular activities really matter to families and we want to offer your child special
opportunities to try out new sports and hobbies during their time with us.
We also realised how enjoyable these activities can be if they become ‘family learning’ – we are parents
ourselves and we know how hard it is to find quality time to connect, so last year we began a series of ‘Parent
and Child’ classes. Our Parent and Child classes have included courses like Beauty, Bird-Box Making,
Astronomy, Mandarin and Ceramics – but we are always looking for new ideas. They usually span one half-term,
so they include around 6 sessions.
YOGA MONDAYS 5.30-6.30pm
Come and join Parent and Child Yoga with Shell Rider. Shell is a certified
FRYOG yoga teacher and teaches Hatha yoga. You will leave feeling relaxed,
yet focused. Yoga mats available to borrow. “We have asked Shell to run
afternoon classes for staff and everyone has enjoyed them so much – they
are perfect for making your mind and your body feel energised and relaxed.”
JEWELLERY MAKING MONDAYS 5.30-6.30pm
Learn to create your own brand of designer jewellery. From earrings to bracelets
and necklaces using different beads and hypoallergenic silver plated
findings. Start your own fashion trend!
CERAMICS & PAINTING TUESDAYS 6.00-8.00pm
Choose to dabble in either ceramics or painting. Learn how to create your own
object in clay or enjoy developing new painting skills and techniques while creating
a masterpiece!
ASTRONOMY WEDNESDAYS 6.30-8.30pm
Study the sun, moon, stars, planets, comets, gas, galaxies, gas, dust and
other non-Earthly bodies and phenomena. Enjoy the course for pleasure, or
take a GCSE at the end of the year.
