Great to see a smile on Zsofi’s face and we look forward to her weekly updates. Remember members can also help out the host families of exchange students by including Zsofi on any outgoings/trips.MESSAGES/WE CAREArthur Glazebrook passed on some sad news to the meeting, that his brother Tom’s wife Patricia had passed away last week. A very pleasant “sit down” luncheon at Domaine Asmira Winery, Gibb Road, Toolleen for 12.15, followed by a visit to Jasper Hill Winery thereafter. Ian “Bear” Coates once back from Darwin will be taking numbers next week. 2. Combined Night Meeting (with Bendigo Strathdale) - at All Seasons Tuesday 18 September 2012 a 6.15pm for 6.45pm start. “Villian or Hero” - a true story presentation by novelist Robin DeCrespiney who provides some background to her recently released book through Penguin “The People Smuggler”. A great opportunity to share Rotary with another Club and also bring along your partner. Cost is $25 pp for two course meal with tea/coffee. More later.Men’s Health Week – first week in SeptemberKaye graves gave an update to the meeting that Men’s Health Week is not far away. A program of events was made available to the meeting - Kaye/Mike Hughes will inform the club of the volunteer help required in coming weeks. The time has come to bring it out of the shadows. Our understanding of the brain is slowly developing with the help of modern technology; however the ignorance and stigma associated with epilepsy often still remain.Epilepsy can begin at any age, although it is most common in children and the elderly. About 1 per hundred people has epilepsy at any one time, but the risk of having epilepsy in your lifetime is between 3% and 5%.Epilepsy means – a tendency to have recurring seizures and the condition varies enormously between individuals. Some people experience frequent seizures whilst others may only have several in their life. Also, there are many different types of seizures, with some causing loss of consciousness, whilst others may be mistaken for strange behavior or the effects of drugs and alcohol.The diagnosis of epilepsy is best made by an epilepsy specialist who is trained to assess the history and results of any tests. It can be a difficult diagnosis because of the tests will be inconclusive. After one seizure a diagnosis may not be possible, but a second seizure may bring confirmation.When providing first aid to someone having a convulsive seizure, do NOT try to put anything in the

Mens Health Week Barbecue

Thursday September 6th

In September The Rotary Club of Bendigo will again be providing a Barbecue for the Mens Health Week function at the Capital theatre.

The format will be similar to previous years however we will be providing a healthier service. Rather than the usual culinary delights of a “fry up” we plan to serve up a healthier option of Chicken and Vegetable wraps.

To this end I’d like to pull together a list of volunteers that can assist in providing this important service.

We’ll need people to help with the setting up of the barbecue facility during the day together with the preparation of the food etc.

We’ll also need as many budding Masterchefs as possible for the evening to do the actual cooking and serving.

Could you please let me know if you can help out and if so what times you will be available on the day.

I’ll obviously provide more detail once I’ve got an idea of who can make themselves available.

There can be impacts on self-esteem, driving, employment, insurance and relationships. For those unable to control their seizures there can be fear of seizures and the risks of injury, or even death. Striving for the best possible seizure control is of the utmost importance.Surgery can be an option for some patients, if the focus of the epilepsy is confined to a particular spot or scar on the brain. With very detailed pre- surgical testing it is sometimes possible to remove the irritable focus without causing permanent harm to the patient.Victoria offers world class epilepsy care and research for epilepsy. Nevertheless attracting funding to this condition is difficult. It is important to emphasize that whilst epilepsy is not as common as many chronic illnesses, the impact can be enormous. People with epilepsy deserve a fair go.
